Tailor your tactics to maximize the strengths of your weapon and minimize the weaknesses. Success depends more on mindset than gear.

AR, ammo weight in most realistic SHTF events would be huge
I am a huge Slavaboo and my favorite rifle is 5.45x39 Saiga I converted and my FAL I built, but my go to SHTF gun is and will always be my AR-15.
As boring as I find the rifle there's a reason why they're as popular as they are.

Assault rifles are going to be banned soon, so get one while you still can.
>>30301444
Battle rifle, in my opinion. 308 has a longer reach and SHTF right now looks more like fascist police state and less like nuclear holocaust.

Depends on what scenario you are prepping for and what your plan is going to be. There's no universal plan that will fit every case. Factors like where you live is something to consider long before you ever think about what your choice firearm will be.

TEOTWAWKI? I'm sticking to a goddamn .45-70 I can make bullets and reload for myself in the woods. Anything relying on 21st century industrial processes is a bad bet if you're so far up shit creek you can't count on running water.

You can make primers?
>>30302405
>he doesnt know you can make primers from matches
>>30302447
So your now your relying on a steady supply of matches?
>>30302461
Its 1 match per primer.
You can buy matches by the thousands.
Battle rifle. My neighborhood will be my army of "small arms", t'hehe.

Hey there Tyrone
>>30302496
You can buy primers by the thousand to.
And bullets
Barrels of gun powder.
All going to have the same issue as matches. Keeping them dry. And since your all super worried about anything modern, and living out your lone wolf fantasies, mind as well plan on how to keep matches dry.

I remember one early big game hunter Saud he would be willing to walk across the whole of Africa with a .22 rifle and a large bore revolver.
My choice for SHTF would be a 10/22 with a .44 or .45 caliber single action revolver for a sidearm. The 10/22 would have a can on it, of course and be using subsonic ammo.
