I'm a teacher in the US. If teachers were to carry guns, what do you think should be the standard carry?
I'm leaning towards some sort of snub nose. Maybe J Frame. Revolvers can sit forever and be ready to fire.

Glock 21 with extended mag chambered in .41 Sig and a 10"barrel AR-10 in each classroom.
Magazines will be stacked half ultra fragmenting hollow points followed by half military grade DU armor piercing rounds. Hollow points are for quick takedowns with minimal over penetration, DU AP rounds are for violent students with body armor.
Every classroom will also have emergency shutters on all exits so if a shooter appears a teacher can trap them in whatever room they are in minimizing casualties. These shutters will only be able to be opened by a code sequence entered both in the room and in the principals office.

During my time in school there have been at least 6( maybe a 7th, we dont know never saw her again) teachers that were mentally unstable.

Unless rust is a real issue from humidity or whatever, a guns ability to sit isn't the biggest problem. A compact glock with an extended magazine chambered in .40(I said it. Deal with it.) hollow points would probably be best. A teacher would want something small and something easily handled by someone with minimal training and a lighter frame along with minimal cost to the state. A teacher should still have the plan to hide first rather than go hunting, but should that door be opened something light with enough ammo rapidly fired to stop up to four people would be ideal. The gun itself is up to debate, but implementation should be no more than a last resort should the gunman enter the classroom.

Look guys, teachers should not have gins in the classroom, we should just build a guard tower and small barracks/armory, for a small squad of national guard troops wose job is to just look out for external threats and never be involved in the discipline of children or facaulty. In reality they will almost never have to do anything but be sentry and aid in disaster drills but if an active shooter does happen they will be the first to clear the grounds, halls and then rooms.
It works in 3rd world countries, and America needs to get over it, token national guard at airports, trainstations and federal buildings needs to be the new norm.

I don't know what it is about fluorescent lights, they seem to crave quite high voltages, I understand that ones made for lighting personal computers normally work at 600V. Or more likely, they need a particular frequency.
Dimmers typically do not lower the voltage, basic ones use triac circuits to "chop up" the voltage or current. I hear that "fan dimmers" actually do use variable resistors instead of triac's. I believe there's also an intermediate type that uses triacs with capacitors to smoothen out the power wave.
