Hey /k/, /an/ here. I was thinking since you're supposed to be our husband and all you might be able to help me out. I'm in the market to get my first handgun.

I've been around guns all of my life and enjoy hunting and shooting. I even have a Remington 243 rifle in my home office right now. Now I'm looking for a handgun to keep at my bedside and to occasionally bring out with me.

My step-dad used to teach gun safety and concealed carry classes and he recommended a Taurus"Public Defender" .45 or .410. What does /k/ think? Any better suggestions?

Glocks are pretty user friendly and simple. However my first pistol was beretta 92fs heavy but pretty straightforward.
>>
>>30290899
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look into it
>>
I wouldn't trust my life to a Taurus.
>>
>>30290830
Sig SP2022 in .40 is what I keep in my vehicle/bedside
>>

What post above says. Glocks are solid and simple entry level handguns in a variety of calibers and sizes. Taurus tends to be a shit show due to absolutely retarded quality control.

Go to a local gun store and try out a variety, but for example,

Glock 19/17
Glock 21
Glock 27
Sig Sauer p320
S&w s9ve/s40ve
Sig 229
Ruger lc9

And there's loads more out there, but yeah, avoid Taurus.

This. Don't take gun advice from a cuck.

Glock 19 is the go-to option here. If you can't afford it, surplus Bulgarian Makarovs are $300.

No? Are they unreliable?

90% of the guns I have used were rifles since handgun are somehow too uncivilized for a lady yet rubbing deer's blood all over my face after my first big kill was appropriate
>>
The first handgun I bought was a SA 1911 RO champion, and I later bought a SA XD sub compact because I wanted something smaller for CC. I still usually carry the 1911 though, I like it more so I end up spending more time with it at the range.

I tend to buy things on whims though, so my advice is usually very bad and should be seen as nothing more than a blog post.

Thank you for your input guys. I have some research ahead of me

Can confirm. Very nice handgun for the price. Reliable as fuck and very simple to maintain. It was my first!

Let me shoot you just once with it, then give me your opinion
>>

I think a taurus judge (public defender is part of that line) is a rather poor choice. The .410 shotgun shells are basically a gimmick and .45 long colt is probably more bullet than you need for anything you'd even use a handgun for.

>>30291087

Taurus have a pretty shoddy reputation, and my personal experience with Taurus products has been less than stellar. I haven't heard anything about the judge line specifically, but I'd personally avoid anything they make.
>>
>>30291087
Really I would suggest an AR for home defense if you have never used a handgun, but you can't CC that.
>>
>>30291252
lol ok faggot just carry a .22lr then.

Those are honestly pretty neat, but I can't imagine why I'd need one to fend off tweakers and coyotes (both types). My Glock 19 has three times the capacity, and anything I can't kill with 15 9mm rounds probably isn't going down from 5 of those. I also prefer to have a handgun that can do basically everything adequately instead of one that can do a few things very well. I have a Luger and a Webley for reasons, but the Glock is the only working handgun I own or need to own, freeing up my budget for other things.

I have used handguns at the range and playing at the camp but never owned my own

yeah i'd vote for a glock for op's criteria as well, those 410s open up some interesting ammo options though.
>>
>>30291626
My step-dad recommended some similar shells. They sound pretty nice. How good are they in practice though?
>>
>>30292159
dunno, i carry a .380
>>

>Sig 320

Seconding the Sig, great pistol with cheap options to switch out the whole frame (not just a back strap) for different sizes.
>>
What about an M&P9?
>>
>>30292159

.410 in general is... adequate. Since it's not as popular, I can't say enough about the effectiveness, and seeing some ballistic gelatin tests, the Winchester PDX1 doesn't break the minimum threshold of 10", which can be worrying. I guess you could run some slugs but at that point, why not carry a regular gun.
>>
>>30291295

They make those in 9me too.
>>
>>30292366
I don't know. I was just told the ammo has "stopping power"
>>
>>30290830
The. 410 /45lc guns are a meme.

Dont get one.

>>
>>30292772
Don't know the budget yet. Probably whatever feels right and I'll find the money for it
>>
>>30292941
The sig p320 can be had for under 500. The only ones over 700 are the higher end models. The 2022 can also be had for under.
>>
>>30291295
what the fuck?

what gun do you have that shoots little metal spiders?
>>
>>30295752

>>
OP if you know nothing and you need it now you get a Glock 19. If you learn something you can pick something else. Otherwise glock 19
