Hey /k/, I've been shopping around and doing some research on buying my first handgun as a CCW and was looking for advice/recommendations. My budget is around $450-$600 USD.

I've been shooting 9mm for a while and am fairly comfortable with it so I'm figuring on that as my chosen caliber. I'm looking for a compact sized handgun and so far I've been eyeing either a G19c Gen4, FNS9c, or Walther P99c, but I'm open to investigating other suggestions.

Also how do you feel about having a manual safety VS not having one? I'm currently leaning toward the FNS9 because of the manual safety feature that the other two don't have, but I'm still more or less on the fence about it.

Alot of people will tell you G19, and although Im not a glockman, it's a good choice.

All the guns you mentioned are good choices - also consider the M&P9c. Factor in magazine prices since this will be your only pistol. I like walther but would chose an m&p over it (just my opinion). I cant comment on the FN.

I personally carry a m&p shield with thumb safety in the warm months and a CZ P01 (DA/SA) in colder months. Alot of people no not like safeties in carry guns, some do, it comes down to what you train and feel comfortable with.

Its also worth noting that compact pistols can still be difficult to carry if youre new to CCW. I guarantee this won't be the last carry gun you buy.

Save some money and buy a shield, maybe even some night sights for it.
Since you're already proficient at firing 9mm training won't be an issue, so it's safe to assume that your CCW is just going to gather dust under your shirt/coat. Plus, god forbid, you ever have to use it for self defense, then it will just find it's way into an evidence locker gathering dust there as well.
Don't buy anything you wouldn't want to lose.

As for having or not having a safety, that's purely personal preference in my opinion. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

PPK!
>>
>>30289100
On the same boat, are there any 9mm DA/SA single stack subcompacts? Or should I just get a double stack?
Been looking at a Rami BD
>>
>>30290607
Not OP, but I've been thinking about getting one. I havent heard anything bad about them besides "they're old and heavy". That's what I want. A full metal gun and not a polymer one.

Anyone have experience with the PPK?
>>
>>30289187
OP here, thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.

>>30289307
>Don't buy anything you wouldn't want to lose.

Never thought about it that way. Good to consider. Whatever I decide on, I'll still hit the range with on a fairly regular basis so I'm not too worried about it not getting use.

>>30290922
I considered a PPK at first, but the ones I've been seeing are more expensive than the more modern options I've already been considering, unless I want to go with the .22lr version, which I don't, at least for a CCW. A range near where I live has PPKs for rent though, and I'll still try it out next time I get around to it.

Two words - slide bite. If you want to stay in the world of Walther go with a P99c or CCP.

In the exact same boat also leaning towards fn.

It's on the outer limits of your price range, but I'd throw the Sig P320C into the ring. Basically a G19 with Sig ergonomics and more options as far as frame sizes and barrel lengths that can be mixed and matched. It's worth looking in to.
>>
>>30289100
My g19 is too big to carry most of the time. My ruger LC9 is perfect
>>
sr9c is underated, cheaper, and better trigger out of the box. Sights are okay as they are on the rest of the guns you listed.
>>
>>30291922

PPK seems like it has a fairly prominent beaver tail though. How would you get slide bite unless you're holding the gun improperly?
>>
I am also looking to purchase my first firearm. I was looking at the glock 19 but I want to know the opinions of Springfield XD mod 2

The XD is a step down from the Glock. The M&P is what you can say is a more refined version of the Glock.

Only reason you should look into the XD is for the extra safety which is completely unneccesary but if it makes you more comfortable, go for it.

M&P Shield Performance Center

I'm saving my shekels for a ccw now, and I'm really torn between that and the Beretta PX4 Compact Carry that should be out any time now.
The Beretta is a double stack, so it's quite a bit thicker than the single stack Shield.
>>
>>30294742
>performance center shield

no pls. Just get a no thumb one
>>
>>30294758
Why?
>>
>>30294761
Because you don't want holes in something that rides in your pocket/holster all of the time?

How is that tiny-ass thumb safety going to wear a hole in anything? You need a better holster if something like that can put a hole in it.
>>
id reccomend steyr arms s-a1 or a ruger lc9 or if you like the .380 cartridge the ruger lc380

Have you considered this? Not OP, but I'm considering this. So far I've tried shooting a Glock 26 and it ain't so bad, but I tried holding this at a gun shop and it feels bretty good. Also I'm more used to a DA/SA manual of arms.
>>
>>30295148
I have an S-A1 9mm - it's as fat as a Glock and I haven't found a good holster for it, but it's fun to shoot and just works.

>>30295104
You have no clue the shit you're spewing. I hate you fuckers
Shield or a used p938

p938 or p238 good options built for the purpose. 1911 at it's heart with a better safety.

What bout ruger specially the lc9s pro? How's the quality compare to mp shield.

Dad has shield and thinking bout buying my own but without saftey, but then I saw the lc9s pro and had to start all over again.

I already have a glock 19 for cc I just want something smaller when I cc in basketball shorts or sweatpants.

My person carry is the Glock 30S, inb4 Glock fan boy. But its a double stack 45acp holds 10rounds, and also accepts the Glock 21 mag if you want a high capacity backup mag.

(pic not my personal gun)
>>
>>30289100
if steel is what you want, SIG P938s, PPK/Ss and older Kahrs will do you well.

If plastic fantastic is what you want, PPS gen 1 or 2s, M&P Shields, and Glock 26s and 43s will work well

make sure you try to hold and manipulate any gun you are seriously considering as ergonomics can be very important

Any suggestions on preliminary training?
Considering buying a practice gun and trying a few holsters, seeing what wardrobe modifications are necessary, and practicing a lot. I'm also interested to see how I carry myself in public wearing a holster.

Thanks for comments.
>>
>>30289100
I bought the FNS9c as my first CCW. I love it. The only problem you might have is printing on your back whenever you have a double stacked mag. My dad carries the S&W shield and he won't change. If I had to choose other than my 9c I would probably pick the glock 30s, its .45 and small enough to be concealable. It's more personal preference since all of them will function the same. I would try all of them out shooting and such then make my decision.

>>30295731
I just was gifted a holster that I like very much. You have to wear bigger pants but the holster sits on your thigh, the way you bring the gun out is by pushing up through your pocket and the gun will pop out of your waistline. It is made out of leather and will last a long time. I have a business card at home, I will take a picture on lunch break if this thread doesn't exist I'll just start a new CCW thread.

Carried one for years. Great pistol. It's about the size of a 19
>>
>>30290629
P239 is DA/SA, but on the bigger side.
>>
>>30295864

Thanks. That sounds like an interesting mechanism. I think once I know what to look for I'll be able to tell when someone has a holster on. There are many choices and there isn't really a dressing room for holsters that I know of. (At least not near me.)

Khar CW9 is what I carry but it needs to be carried in condition 1 or else it has an issue feeding when the slide it pulled back

I think I may have that holster anon, did they have an optional cell phone case for a handle?
