Will we ever see large scale paratrooper assaults again like in this video?

No. Contrary to what airborne faggots say it's totally useless now.

Develop your hypothesis

we DO have overpopulation issues...

After we have air superiority...

>we're going to enter a war against countries covered in surface to air missiles anytime in the remainder of human history
Air defense isn't a thing amongst people we would ever consider sending group troops against.

It was totally useless back then too

If airspace is secure enough to slowly fly transport craft over, why not just deliver soldiers directly to their objectives via chopper, instead of scattering them and their gear haphazardly across the countryside.

fixed wing aircraft are safer, cheaper, longer ranged, and simply better in every way

However this is why you use gliders and not paradropping

The bitterness my coworker has for not getting a combat jump in Iraq when they got scrubbed in favor of an armored assault is palpable.

been there done that

The US should just let another country try to invade. It would give us /K/omandos something to do for a weekend.

Once African conflicts start to escalate as their economies improve.

Paratroopers were the only way to get soldiers from your territory to enemy territory while bypassing other enemy territory entirely. In theory they could take valuable objectives and cut off supply and divert reinforcements from the front while the regular army quickly relieved them and pushed through the weakened front lines.

In practice paratroopers never dropped where they were supposed to, and dropped over a massive area sometimes hundreds of miles from their objectives because of pilot error, wind, and early or late jumps due to ground AA. Falling from the sky is an absolutely terrible way to not get shot, and along with the scattered issues they faced, paratroopers had massive casualty rates. Also par for the course, paratroopers don't significantly weaken an enemy frontline, at least immediately, meaning the army can be significantly delayed attempting to link up to paratrooper units, further increasing casualties as counterattacks, heavy armor, artillery and low ammunition force paratrooper units into massively unfavorable engagements. Modern war is much faster paced, and thus paradrops would be absolutely suicidal in this day and age.

Accurate insertions via helicopter are superior to paradrops in pretty much every way except that planes fly faster and can carry more men at once.
Maybe in the future if there's some way to accurately drop men from aircraft paratroopers will see a resurgence in the form of drop troopers ala ODST, although their application would be significantly less suicidal and be used basically like the Rangers are today.

even the raid on Osama bin Hussein used helichoppers to stealthily insert the delta spec ops rangers
Parasoldiers just have too little control on where their land, and with limited equipment
>>
The only circumstances massed paratroopers being useful are:

The enemy does not have the means to intercept cargo aircraft in the area.

There is no undamaged airstrip to land troops instead of dropping them (either because it does not exist, or has been damaged).

The area is out of range of transport helicopters.

The only circumstance I can see this as being useful is if the USA needed to reinforce a island (for example, in the South or East China Sea) before a Chinese expeditionary force were to reach the area, to deter them (or if necessary oppose them) from seizing the island. A para-drop would be quick to get forces from the mainland US, would not require the island to have an operational airstrip capable of taking a C-17.

Other than that, I can't really think of a plausible use.

Kinda want this but with glider suits

Would stealth transport jets + para jumps be good?
