Hey everyone, I'm going to take a CCW class soon and am trying to find a more budget oriented pistol to use as my daily CC firearm. I'm trying to determine either .40 or .45 caliber, and what specific pistols from decent brands fit the budget. I'd like to stay ad close to $200 as possible, used of course, and avoid the meme brands.
I have been looking at Springfield, S&W and Sig a lot and saw the SCCY and wanted to know your thoughts on them as well.
So far the Sig P250 series caught my eye as well as the XD pistols.
What suggestions do you guys have? I'll likely carry it appendix or at a 1:30-2:00 crossdraw. Thanks ahead of time

I would say to look at the Smith &Wesson M&P SHIELD chambered in .40. Stopping power, concealability, and ergonomics in a neat little package.
>>
Don't be an idiot, get a 9mm

>budget
>my life isn't worth an extra couple hundred bucks

>budget
>not suggesting 9mm which is cheaper to shoot, therefore cheaper to train with

You should spend more on ammo and range time than you do on whatever gun you end up choosing.
Just go buy a 9mm shield. .40 is retarded.
>>
>>30260527
I've been eyeing the Sig P250 as well. I like the double action trigger, and its a Sig for cheap. Are you going for the .40 or .45 for the reasons of power? Because if so I would go with 9mm instead. If you buy the quality ammo it will do just as good a job and you can pack a lot more ammo in. Plus cheaper training.
>>
>>30260713
Budget for my first one so that I can have something NOW instead of only having something a few months from now.
I don't have any firearms at this time.
>>

I'm going for .40 or .45 for knockdown power.
I know 9mm transfers comparable and almost the same KE into the target, but the way it distributes that KE lends to piercing and pass-through more than a .40 or .45 lends itself to expanding and knocking a target down.

If there aren't any .45 or .40 pistols that fit my budget and the CC for factor when I'm ready to buy but there are 9mm that do then I'll get a 9mm and get a .40 and .45 later on as I become able to afford it.

I'll look into the shield series as well.

Also what are some suggestions for .38SPL revolvers that are withing the budget range and reliable? I know that should expand the brand range quite a bit as revolvers are so much simpler, it's harder to have firing issues with them.

The CIA thought that 7 rounds of 9mm was enough and so should you

Honestly you can't go wrong with any popular polymer frame subcompact, that being said it sounds that you want something more expensive down the line

I recommend s&w model 442
>can be found around $300
>5 rounds of .38 special
>rated for +p
>Is blued and can be harder to detect by bad guys when drawing
>enclosed hammer, wont snag when drawing
>Is able to fire in a coat pocket opposed to semi autos

Pic related is an ASP

This is a model 442
>>
>>30261047
Compact, I'd do a 3.5-4.5" barrel, single stack mag
>>
>>30261119
Reminds me how the army thought that 1-3 rounds of 5.56NATO was enough to take down drug powered haj, but those fuckers keep coming after 6 rounds to the chest.
Have to pop them in the head or neck or use 7.62NATO to physically knock them down and do enough damage so they physically can't get back up and neutralize the threat.
Sorry anon, I understand that 9mm is a decent round, but deployments put a certain understanding in my mind that I need a larger round to knock down a target if I can't do a headshot and it be legally considered self defense.
>>
>>30261119
>>30261189
Bueno. I'll have to check that out, plus I can use .357 Mag in a .38SPC
>>
SCCY with a laser will be my choice soon
>>
>>30261271
>.357 mag in .38 spec
Well you can try

You got it backwards anon
>>
>>30261260
Interesting input anon, but a self defense situation is completely different than a war zone and people historically have carried less and got the job done.
But this is just my opinion, I have no problem carrying a .38 or a single stack 9mm
>>
>>30261330
What? I thought .38SPL was too large and would either get stuck or fuck the barrel in a .357?
>>
>>30261387
True. Most of it is just psychological for me, and I know the chances of me ever needing to use my carry weapon are slim to none, but I would rather have it and feel confident in its takedown capability.
And it's odd that I don't trust 9mm to do the job but a .38SPL+P and .357 Mag is trustworthy to me
>>
>>30261506
.38 special is just a shorter cartridge than .357 magnum

A revolver chambered in .357 magnum can also fire .38 special

.357 magnum will not fit in a cylinder designed for 38 special
>>
>>30261189
what's the accuracy like on this? Seems like a point and shoot gun, which I get since a self defense situation is gonna be very fast paced but still.
>>
>>30261734
Most modern made guns are more accurate than people can shoot them. Just check out hickok 45's videos on the j frame and see for yourself
>>
>>30261636
Gotcha, that makes sense.
>>
>>30261506
don't let the number confuse you they just measure it in different places

i CC a Khar CW9. retail is $450 but i got mine at a gun show for $350

I was told a Glock 17 gen 4 is a good gun for carrying with a permit. Can I get /k/'s opinion?
>>
>>30263485

Glocks, as a brand, are a perfectly fine (if unimpressive) choice. Can't really go wrong, though some would argue that there are better choices among competitors for similar prices.

The Glock 17, in particular, is pretty large for concealed carry. Not that you can't carry full sized hand guns (plenty of people do), but you might consider something a little smaller if you're looking for a dedicated CC gun.
>>
>>30263631
To add to this, the smaller framed Glocks in 9mm are (from larger to smaller): G19, G26, G43.

If you want one that's compact enough to comfortably carry but still full sized, look at the G19.
>>
>>30263631
>>30263651
This seems to be more of what I'm looking for; a little more compact and maybe a holster that has room for an extra mag or two to make up for the slightly smaller magazines. I was also told a bright ass light on the bottom is useful; confirm/deny? I can see the use for blinding an invader, truth be told.
>>
$200?
A beat up compact glock
A police trade in cz 75
A cz82
A tt-33
>>
>>30261260
Don't use shit m855 against unarmored targets and you won't have this problem.
