I'm NROTC but I have a number of friends who went the OCS route and they all say it's no so bad as long as you go in adequately prepared. It's not like enlisted boot where if you're out of shape/uninformed/etc they'll get you to where you need to be, instead you need to go in as close to (preferably exceeding) the standards as possible otherwise you'll be failed out.
Also Marines and Nuke are probably complete polar opposites. I don't know you, but I can say you have to be legitimately intelligent to become a Nuke, they don't pass people who aren't up to par just because they tried hard. I'd honestly recommend deciding between Navy or Marines first, and then looking more into the specific communities.

There are so few slots for Surface Nuke that unless you're legitimately one of, if not the best, Nuke candidate in that commissioning cycle, chances are you won't be able to go that line.
During my NROTC days my Nuke advisor told me that there were only like 5 or fewer slots for Surface Nuke out of the hundred or so Nukes that made it through every year, and Big Navy didn't even select people for Surface every year.
Surface Nuke is nearly as special snowflake as it gets.

For the first time in forever, Washington, Oregon and Idaho departments are taking applicants without fire or ems experience or certifications.
There were over 200 fire jobs vacant in the PNW as of 2 months ago when I was mentoring a kid who was looking to get into civil service.
They are highly competitive spots, but the numbers don't represent the whole truth. Most people just don't cut it. Between the CPAT (which is still ridiculously easy), interview processes, work backgrounds, psych, criminal and personal backgrounds and references, academy and probation.
If you are fit, of sound mind, have a clean record and can function like an adult and have excellent public relations/service skills which allow you to communicate there really is no reason as to why you cannot get a job.
