Lets fix that

anyone have the image where one anon asks about how ingrained gun culture is in the US, and the other poster writing a nice paragraph filled with gun-related colloquialisms, including "you look like a straight shooter" and "I'm just gonna shoot from the hip," etc.

I have a stupid question. Why the fuck are cheap revolvers more expensive than cheap semi auto handguns? They're physically much simpler, fewer moving parts, so I assume they'd be cheaper to build.

Why can you get a shitty but serviceable Hipoint 9mm new for under $200, but not a cheap revolver of similar caliber (not a damn snubnose) for a similar price? Why isn't there a Hipoint of revolvers?
>>
>>30250531
>physically much simpler, fewer moving parts

Do you know how revolvers work? I'm guessing no; you seem not to have purchased one.

I have a Ruger American (pistol), and sometimes the slide stop disengages when I slap a magazine in. Is this worth sending it in for repairs?
>>
>>30249566
fucking flash in the pan thread OP. I'm calling shotgun when we ride over to your house to mock your spaghetti spill.
>>
My Springfield XD-9 rarely engages the slide release when I finish a magazine. Is this normal or is the American Eagle ammo I'm using just bad? I've never had this problem with my 1911, but otherwise I haven't had any issues with operation.

These are my first two pistols so please use small words and short sentences in your answer.
>>
>>30251566
no, it is very common for polymer handguns. The reason why it happens is because when you slap the magazine hard enough into the magwell, the frame of the grip might flex a litte bit causing the slide to go forward. There are several youtube videos on this.
Here is one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBpYwrsTLls

Some people even prefer it.

General purpose troubleshooting:

Try different ammo. Does the problem persist?

Then:
Try different magazines. If problem persists then, it might be the weapon.

Anyone have that?

I had to sell all but my .22 bolt and 20ga mossy to move after i lost my job, got 500 saved now.

Hey guys, I'm planning on getting a firearm for home defense—looking at pistols, since I would like to carry as well at times. However, I'll be in an apartment complex and am worried about overpenetrating and injuring or killing one of my neighbors. Anyone got any advice on how to mitigate this? As a note, one of my family members offered to sell me a Hi-Power (along with some .22s and a 20-gauge) at a very good price, but I'm not opposed to other pistols or even long guns.

No, once you enter the vehicle, it is considered concealed.

>(2) A person shall not carry a pistol concealed on or about his or her person, or, whether concealed or otherwise, in a vehicle operated or occupied by the person, except in his or her dwelling house, place of business, or on other land possessed by the person, without a license to carry the pistol as provided by law and if licensed, shall not carry the pistol in a place or manner inconsistent with any restrictions upon such license.

I'm against the idea of purse guns for many reasons. But if she does do it, she needs some kind of purse holster or sleeve to both allow her to grab the gun quickly and to prevent her from accidentally causing the trigger to go.

But to repeat, purse carry is stupid. Carry a gun on your body, not the thing mostly likely to be stolen and the thing where it's a 5 minute long clusterfuck to find what you're looking for.

Literally no reaching for a slide release or having to rack it. Slam it home and go.

Also, I've not played with an American yet, but on the M&P it is definitely a "slide stop" not a "slide release." I chuckle watching friends/senpai the first time they try to "release" the slide. Just get it back a tiny bit with a hand/thumb&finger/steering wheel/pantleg and it'll take care of itself.

would replacing all the current M-4 5.56mm barrels with 6.5 Grendel barrels and bolts be a cost effective upgrade to the M-4?
would it make for more stopping power?
is the increase in range really a lot?
>>
>>30260336
No, it'd be a logistical nightmare with no benefit in the grand scheme of things since precise rifleman fire at long range hardly did anything anytime it was the doctrine of choice. Heavier and mission specific weapons distributed throughout the ranks is effective for those moments where the fighting isn't urban.
>>
>>30258405
It's garbage outside of collecting. It's a neat concept but with terrible quality control and design flaws out the ass.
>>
>>30260375
it would be a lot easier than replacing a whole weapon. Also I dont think you read the post fully

>you can keep using 5.56 till every weapon is up graded
>no need to retrain Soldiers on a new weapon
>uses same mags as 5.56
>doubles effective range
>larger round better for CQB
>no change in weapon handling/weight/length

Why the fuck is molle gear so expensive?? How does it end up costing as much for a plate carrier as it does for all the pouches I'll be adding to it?

Is there some place you can buy them cheap I don't know about? Is it possible to/does anyone make their own molle gear?
>>
>>30260436
Because of the manhours, the materials, the quality control, and any additional features.

Really, $200 or $300 isn't terribly outrageous when you look at the prices of outdoors clothes, or even mid-end civilian clothes (and those aren't even useful!).

I was in the same boat when Sandy Hook rolled around. Unless there's a major push for a weapons ban the panic should end quickly. If it drags on, you may want to consider doing what I did and get a pistol caliber carbine instead. Ammo isn't as cheap as .22LR but it will be easier to find and still much cheaper than rifle rounds.

So I'm having an issue with my factory CZ75 mags - all of them are good except for one, which will not feed if loaded to capacity. The mag will have 16/16 rounds with none in the chamber, but racking the slide will not properly feed the first round, leading to a jam. I then have to eject the magazine and re-rack the slide to get it to "eject" the round. It functions flawlessly with 15/16 rounds in the magazine, and 16/16 for all the other magazines. As near as I can tell, there is something fucked up with the feed lips, where they're too sharp/not angled properly or something.

Does anyone else know how to fix this issue? Mailing the magazine for repair/replacement isn't really going to work because I'm in a shithole state with mag restrictions.

>To conserve lead during World War II in Germany, the lead core was replaced by an iron core encased with lead. This bullet, identified by a black bullet jacket, was designated as the 08 mE (mit Eisenkern—"with iron core"). By 1944, the black jacket of the 08 mE bullet was dropped and these bullets were produced with normal copper-colored jackets. Another wartime variation was designated the 08 sE bullet and identified by its dark gray jacket, and was created by compressing iron powder at high temperature into a solid material (Sintereisen—"sintered iron").

So I feel that this is dumb even for a QTDDTOT thread so feel free to berate me.

Little preface:
I have recently gotten into smithing and wood working and plan to make some shitty proto-guns when I get bored of making things that have existed for thousands of years. Since I will just be beginning I realize that they probably be unsafe or unlikely to work, so I am looking at it more as a series of art projects, and the theme is "If TEOTWAWKI happens and I die, I want the people who find my cache to react somewhere between 'What the fuck' and 'neat!'"
So I have 3 questions as of now.
1. Would pic related work as long as the tube can handle the stress? It would be seated into a firing mechanism, manually eject and replace to reload.
2. If above is yes is there anyway to make a harpoon that flares at the non-impact end when it impacts
3. Is it wise to weld shotgun shells together for a specially made gun? Basically to act as a quick loader with seating and sealing that takes the odd shape of the welded shells into consideration.

Is there any handwave for soldiers in a modern combat zone not wearing any kind of armour at all? [i.e. basically just lightweight conventional clothing.]

i.e. it allows greater freedom, travel further due to lower weight, or something.

I don't have any reason to believe it's a good idea in real life, I just need a handwave excuse for it in a silly forum RP.

>>30261823
i don't think you're being overly paranoid.

>>30268319
the heat required to weld or even solder shells would have a very high likelihood of detonating them. your mochup also seems to lack a chamber, shells don't fire if unsupported, they just sort of pop. you could probably work up some sort of inertia fused primer that could light a flare if you were really interested.

>>30268592
if people can afford armor they wear armor, even if it's low level it'll soak up some shrapnel. the only time i have ever heard otherwise was in vietnam when stoned grunts would use their vests for seat cushions.
>>
>>30269161

>>30268319 here
It would be an empty shell when welded, then refilled with powder. the whole thing would be seated into something that looks similar to a spear gun but with a hammer instead of a string to fire. Currently thinking a pressure based locking system and something like a lever action to eject. Click tube into gun, fire, eject with lever, push new tube into place to lock

This question relates to California.

When you buy a gun, do they send any materials to your address by mail?

And what happens if the address on your drivers license is different than the one you currently live in? I'd rather not have anything "politically sensitive" sent to my actual home since my family is a bunch of anti-gun nutjobs worked up into a frenzy thanks to the last shootings.

I already know even long gun purchases are registered now like hand guns have been.

I've got a 12 gauge I'm going to use for home defence, but I live in Canada where the laws are somewhat restrictive regarding self defence. To avoid killing somebody and going to jail I'd prefer to have the gun as more of a deterrent or at least used to incapacitate an intruder rather than killing them. When people say that you don't need to register a gun made before 1899 do they mean designs that old or actual antiques that are that old themselves?
>>
>>30274069
guns that are actually that old.

black powder weapons are also not counted as modern firearms even if they were produced last year.

also most places you don't need to register anything, the pre 1898 thing is just that you can mail antiques and don't need a background check to buy one.

Black powder weapons may be restricted depending on your state.

Washington state for example treats black powder weapons (that aren't antiques) as any other firearm
>>
>>30274628
>(1) "Antique firearm" means a firearm or replica of a firearm not designed or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898, including any matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system and also any firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1898, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade.

i'm having trouble wading through their definition of antique, it reads like they mistyped the federal definition.

So I live in Indiana and am looking into buying a shotgun merely for home security.

Problem is, 1) I got some goofy nonsense felony that was "reduced to a misdemeanor" on my record and 2) was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital in 2009 after I snapped due to temporary mental stress from my elder brother passing away.

As far as I know, the latter problem completely obliterates my constitutional rights to own weapons. But Indiana allows non-government involved private sales, so that's my only hope.

I was burglarized in 2011 while I was still asleep in my own home and have never felt safe since.

Is there a "Craigslist for guns" or some other shit I need to know before I try my luck at gun ownership? I know its a felony to privately sell to those you might believe to be a threat, but as long as I'm not sweating heavily and raving about "normies" or some shit I'm fine right?

Also, I've been half tempted to just walk into a gun store and ask them to run my shit through NICS or whatever, just to see if I could ever legally, and legitimately buy a weapon. Only thing I fear there is them thinking I'm some wannabe insane psycho killer if any part of that previous shit comes up and having me arrested.

Does anyone know what the stock attaches to ? I got this old boy without a stock and it seems to be missing some mounting point.

I believe its #6 but its not labeled ( since that would directly transfer the kinetic energy )

When figuring barrel length for certain cartridges, do you measure from the start of the rifling or from the start of the receiver where the chamber is?
>>
>>30285685
it's not labeled because it's the receiver and not for sale

They did well militarily. They lost politically.

Alright, /k/. I need a quick clarification. My understanding is that acquiring parts for full-fun is really expensive and requires a decent wait time. I've seen fully automatic AKs for 15 grand, as well as full-auto trigger groups going for the same rate. I've read that getting an M-16 would run you between 14-16 grand.

If it's so expensive, then why is this site
http://www.ftfindustries.com/product/AK-FCFA12.html
selling the components for 100 bucks? Is there something I'm not understanding here?
>>
>>30286502
The parts have no special value unless they're the serialized part that's registered with the ATF. For example, an M16 lower or RDIAS costs as much as a car because there are only a certain number of them that a regular person can legally own, but a Geissele SSF trigger assembly is only slightly more expensive than an SSA because of the limited pool of legitimate buyers and >muh USSOCOM. For an AK, the receiver is the serialized part, so any other component has no special value, regardless of whether it's for a select-fire gun or not.
>>
>>30286751
So I could literally pay the 100 bucks, and make my AK full fun? Also, thanks for the response. I appreciate it.
>>
>>30287052
you could, you'd need to change some other things and have some mechanical ability too. you would also be in violation of federal law and the atf would do everything in their power to kill you and your dog.
>>
>>30287052
You literally could, if you wanted to go to prison and have your dog shot and never be allowed to own a gun again.
>>
>>30287083
Okay, thanks for the info. I'm seeing a lot of idiocy in my facebook feed, and I wanted to cover my bases before I made a post.

And one last clarification: to make the act of putting that trigger group in the receiver legal, I would need to have it registered and get a tax stamp?

Are air rifles /k/ enough or will i get laughed at.

Minimal options in bongistan, there are no .22 clubs in my area accepting new members and "full bore shooting" as it's known is do-able in about 3 places in the country, once you have paid hundreds for permits and had the police inspect you.

However there is an air rifle range next to my workplace and i already have an old BSA meteor mk2 from when i was a kid.
>>
>>30287163
yes, but because of the 86 machinegun ban you can´t "produce" / import mgs for civilian use
it would be a "post 86 dealer sample", so only for dealer with the right paperwork
>>
>>30287165
airguns are /k/ approved. just not airsoft.
