check out plugfirecap guns. They are there to fill that void of freedom in the UK. might be able to find better prices elsewhere but this is just the first link in google.

You can, just get a license and some cash. Considering most infantry rifles in WW2 were bolt action, you can pick any one you want. For extra style points, get a shotgun license and spend an arm and a leg to buy a M1897 shotgun (bayonet optional) and make those clay pigeons call you out for war crimes

But joking aside, if you are severly strapped for cash for some reason, I'm pretty sure there must be some rental ranges too so just google that shit.

Is there any way I could own a thompson?

Yes, illegaly.

Short answer: No way in hell

Long answer:
Maybe, but it would have to be either a replica that is manually operated
or it can be a semi auto .22lr reproduction
Both options would be overpriced as shit and are not true thompson replicas, just a gun that just so happens to look like a Tommy gun but act nothing like a tommy gun

Anyone saying no way in hell is a moron.

My local range when I was in Liverpool had Mauser Kar 98k, Enfield No.4 and a couple other guns for half/full day rent, only other price was the cartridges you fired on the day.

You won't be able to really get your hands on anything else other than bolt action, semi-auto converted to straight pull or semi-auto in .22 rimfire. Although there is case law of a pensioner having a full auto MP38/40 and another couple of semi and full automatic firearms slipping through the net, legally, ala antique firearm laws. If the weapon was manufactured before a certain date, it is technically an antique (parliament is trying to/is closing/has closed this loophole). Pensioner was arrested, taken to court, judge deems case pretty frivilous due to law telling the police that this gun IS an antique, they knew it, but still brought it to court because "it's fully automatic". He got his gun back. So somewhere there are bound to be firearms from WW2 that you can shoot, just not the ones you want to shoot, and even if they were, a pensioner probably has one, semi-legally' in his house, that will be chopped when he dies.

TL;DR
You can shoot WW2 guns in the UK.
Check local ranges for rentals.
Prepare anus for Police inspection if you want a license, also mandatory safe install (£300-400) and license fee (£125-200) before approval.

Use the internet and not 4chan. You have google and a brain.

Local firing range, gun rental <search dis.

I'm confident that there are old curmudgeons in the UK with an MP-40 or some such stashed under a floorboard.

Sorry brits you have very limited "freedoms". Shotguns and single shots are really not the great, next time you vacation state side, you should try renting an L1A1, its pretty awesome. I love shooting mine every weekend!
