The DPRK army at the time had radio contact all the way down to the platoon, yet the PVA sometimes lost communication with battalions. Literally, PVA command sometimes did not know where their battalions were. But they were able to turn back the US thrust. Do you know why? It's not about "zerg rush", which really is a term used by illiterate internet keyboard warriors. It's about superior tactics. If you want to look for a modern example of concentration in force, look no further than the PVA in Korea.
Tenacious infantry and brilliant commanders were able to use a predominantly light infantry force with spotty supply lines to push back a far, far superior foe.
Max Hastings gives a pretty good account of US morals in his korea book.
I would recommend China's Road to the Korean War. Great book.
