First gen was basically OD, second gen the pattern is noticeably more pronounced. Your picture has both, the uniforms are later production while their helmet covers are early prints.

Yea at a distance it basically is. It's strange seems like the Soviets and their successor countries seemed to have always favor way smaller patterns for camo unlike the west. I guess their reasoning is that it's going to turn into a green/brown blob anyway unless you're really close so that's what they focus on. I imagine this was the same reasoning behind rain camo and why it got so popular.
