Just curios is you know op.. Was there some sort or registry in Australia how did they force everyone to sell back there guns? Or was it just on faith you would sell it back
>>
>>30225465
That's a nice collection, hard to imagine giving any of those fine rifles up.
>>
>>30225465
most states did a registry a couple of years prior however the non compliance was staggering, out of the 750,000 guns handed in less than 5% were semi auto centerfires
there were roughly a million in the country pre 1996....

so whenever you hear someone refer to Australia as a good example, tell them to get fucked
>>
>>30225519
Fun fact: One single gun shop imported more SKS and SKK variants prior to 1996, than the total amount of semi-automatic rifles handed in during the 1996 buyback. So there's still LOTS of semi-autos out there...
>>
>>30225207
>he turned his guns in
What a cuck. If Hillary manages to ban anything and there's a mandatory buyback, I wouldn't turn my guns in for a thousand, a hundred thousand, a hundred million, or a hundred billion. What use is money when I can't buy guns and ammo?

Do any Ausfags on here know exactly what you can own legally for fun purposes?

What, you love all of your censorship of media? That part is fine? 'Hate speech' laws? Other SJW wet dreams?

When feelings>reason in your government, you pretty much lose your guns by default.

I'd rather you stay in Australia. Glad we agree on something.
>>
>>30226603
Put recreational shooting as you 'legitimate reason'
Then you can have bolt and pump action rifles and lever action shotties
>>
>>30225207
Nice. I hope he didn't actually turn them in.
>>
>>30226686

As opposed to racism, high crime rates, stupid feminists and the risk I might get shot going down the street?

Censorship of the media is really fuck all when you have 24 hour internet access, and half a brain. And I havent really noticed any issues with hate speech laws, since people can still spout of racist or xenophobic bullshit all they like.

The only law I take issue with is the proposed one banning all forms of protest, including peaceful. But seeing as in the US people get fucking maced or shot with beanbag rounds at protests, I'd probably call it equal.

Neither country is perfect, but if i had to choose, I'd still stick with this one, because we have far less turmoil.
>>
>>30226603
My "genuine reason" was literally hunting and recreational shooting. That lets me have an unlimited number of any Category A/B guns and I never have to step foot in a gun club.

You can put recreational shooting on a catagory A/B and (unless you live in NSW) you can go to the range as much or as little as you want
Cat A/B includes
All bolt/lever/breach loading rifles and shotguns
Pump action rifles

I'll always recomend your #1 and #2 be a repeating rimfire (i.e bolt/pump/lever) and a howa mini action .223
>>

What falls under Cat A and B?

That's what hate speech laws will fucking do you faggot.
>But seeing as in the US people get fucking maced or shot with beanbag rounds at protests, I'd probably call it equal.
Is that really how your media portrays it? Because that's not really the case here.
>Neither country is perfect, but if i had to choose, I'd still stick with this one, because we have far less turmoil.
You have less turmoil because you're not as ethnically diverse.
>>
>>30226743
Cat A:
Rimfire rifles (not semi-automatic)
Shotguns (not pump-action or semi-automatic)
Air rifles

Cat B:
Cetnerfire rifles (not semi-atomatic) So basically pump-action, lever-action, bolt-action, break action, straight-pull and single/double-action. Not lever-release.
Combination guns that have a centerfire barrel.

Also some states have no magazine restrictions and some states have specific firearm restrictions. Example you can't have revolving rifles in NSW I think.
>>
>>30226747
.50bmg dude haha
You may get rejected on your permit to aquire depending on state though
But for example if I had 10k in Victoria and wanted a .50 I can go buy one
>>
>>30226756

What do handguns fall under?
>>
>>30226759

Shit, really? I always thought .50 bmg was banned. SO I could theoretically get myself a Barrett 50 cal, if I could get the right permits and shit?
>>
>>30226747
Generally, .50 is the highest. But it depends on what your police are willing to approve. I know people who get Barrett M95s in .50BMG approved on cat B for "hunting buffalo" and there are few of those big-game rifles floating around.

But it depends where you are. Some places "ban" certain calibers like .338 LM (WA did this while I was there).
>>
>>30226748

Well, if a lot of problems are due to black people in the US, and I live in a country that doesnt have those sort of black people, then I'm happy to stay here for now.

Abos are an issue in urban areas, but at least they don't seem to be smart enough to get a hold of any sort of gun.
>>
>>30226760
Category H.
They can (generally) only be used at a range. You have to compete in 3-6 (depending on state and number of handguns owned) comps a year to keep the licence. Restricted to <.38 unless you do specific comps. 10 round mag limits.
That's for sporting shooters Cat H.

A hassle but perfectly do-able.
>>
>>30226768

I live in WA, so probably could say goodbye to that then.

Which state is most restrictive?
>>
>>30226775

Bummer, I've always wanted to own a 1911, sounds like a hassle.
>>
>>30226776
WA probably for the average shooter.

My local gun club tells people to never go to WA and to never spend any money there.
>>
>>30226766

>>

If I was ever gonna get one, I'd like it to be .45, just cos that's what I think of as the default.

Also, I have several live rounds floating around my house or differing calibers, I know there's no risk of them randomly exploding, but if I wanted to dispose of them, whats the best way to go around it?
>>

In Vic it's cowboy action / metal silhouette (additional 4 comps a year)

Resident aliens with paperwork can own the same shit as a regular citizen can.

>>
>>30227087
shotgun shells are easy, just cut the plastic open with a razor and spill out all the shot and powder

22 is easy, you can usually just pull the bullet out with your bare fingers

223 and the 44 you have, just use a set of pliers, grab the bullet (not case) and bend wiggle it back and forth, and it will pop right off

then pour out the powders in the toilet , throw away empty case with live primer, and use the lead bullets as fishing line weights

>>
>>30227155
You undergo an FBI background check, pay a fee(tax), as well as the cost of whatever you're getting, after filling out paperwork, wait several months for it to process, and then you've got your toy.

Basically, if you can pass a background check and afford whatever it is you want, then that's breddy much it. I simply don't know if that's open to resident aliens or non-citizens, but for all I know it could be. Maybe an NFAnon can help with that query.
>>
>>30227177

Spose as an Australian Citizen, they'd have the Aus government do a background check too, if Non-US citizens are allowed to own those firearms.
>>
>>30227180
Maybe. Or maybe they'd just figure if you were allowed to be a resident(bg check on immigrants) you're probably squared away nicely.

yes shotgun target shells can be bought at walmart for 20 cents a round, but its a shotgun shooting tiny shot, so not really comparable to a target shooting gun. do you just want 'a gun'? you seem very novice here, and haven't stated a purpose for said gun. figure out what you want it for, then we can help you narrow your choices

When doing "BBQ Shrimp" I typically parboil them first, then toss them in some lime juice and chili powder and lay them on the grill just for a minute or so to get a good sear goin'. That way you don't have to sit and grill the fuck out of em to get them fully cooked.

Look at it like Anthony Bourdain says in Kitchen Confidential: a grill is a tool to put sear and attractive char marks on already mostly-cooked food, it is not made for cooking stuff from raw to completion

If he had just shot himself, they would have found another excuse to disarm the public.

The government doesn't just fall into a panic reaction over night and decide to react to a tragedy by banning guns for the greater good. Media and the public react like that, but the government in all likelihood had already been planning to disarm the public and ban guns, the port arthur massacre was just a convenient excuse to do it all at once.

It's the same with the EU semi auto ban they announced right after the paris attacks, except the draft had already been in the works since 2013.

Also keep them, no one is ever going to find out and they're a nice reminder of freedom long gone.

Every state except the two biggest gun owning states had registries but the registries for the most part had only been implemented a few year prior. Tasmania and Queensland didn't ahve registration.

The attorney general was quoted as saying they expected to get 1.5 to 2m firearms turned in, the Sports Shooters Association of Australia did an estimate based on imports and production figures getting a similar number. Lo behold, at the end of the buyback the AG claimed that the 750k they got was "about what we expected". Tasmania and Queensland naturally had the lowest turn in per gun owner rate.

What's funny is the company that imported the SKS and SKK rifles into Australia says they imported about 250k of them over about a decade ($200 each with a free 1440 round slab of ammo!), but the government only got ~50k "military" rifles handed in.

I was going to ask what are the rules on muzzle loaders and revolvers in Australia. In the U.S. (at least the vast majority of states) they are some of the only guns that can be ordered online without a FFL.

Also, general question for the Aussies: Does Australia have a secret policy of deporting assholes? When I was in college just about all the Australian students I met would go on oddly unprovoked rants about their "problems" with the U.S. that often included guns. Granted most of these were rather heavyset girls, but they all did it for some reason. The one exception was a dude on the tennis team, that guy was chill and loved going to the range.

The idea that climate change is purely anthroprogenic is fucking dumb. You've swallowed the left's coolaid if you seriously believe it. Do some research, the hockey stick theory and Michael E Mann's study that started this hysteria has been thoroughly debunked. There's even direct evidence of conspiracy between scientists in the IPCC. The whole thing is politics dressed up like science. And you blindly believe it because it's a pop culture meme.

This is how the left has won the culture wars. People like you believe shit because people they respect or admire believe it, not because they've investigated it, considered it and came to a conclusion.

Read Mark Steyn's "A Disgrace To The Profession". The book is filled with scientists, nobel prize winning physicists, actual climate experts who were in the field before the hockey stick study came out. All condemning the way climate change propaganda has been presented to the public.

Just look at how you address the issue, its like a religion thing. "He's a DENIER" is like calling him a heretic for not following your cultish, unscientific bullshit. The worst part is that it detracts from proper environmentalism and anti-pollution measures because people are so distracted by this purely anti-industrial rubbish.
