Okay, besides looking kind of cool and being nostalgic for some, we have to acknowledge the fact that M/81 Woodland is an outdated pattern and is bettered by many modern woodland camouflages. It's heavily saturated and appears dark almost always and is outperformed by MARPAT, AOR, and others. The meme status of this camouflage pattern on this board has risen far above Rhodesian Brush Stroke.

You made a thread for this?

I noticed there's been a couple M81 themed threads lately too, but you couldn't have posted this in one of them?

People claim it's effective all the time. Though I wouldn't say they know what they are talking about.

Yeah, totally "doomed". Even though transitional patterns are widely adopted and modern woodland patterns have been recolored closer to transitional palettes.

I'm pretty sure most people who are in to /k/ things just like it 'cause it looks cool and we like the aesthetic of how field gear looked during that era.

Funfact, that's Psy.

Also, yeah, same reason people dig Vietnam era uniforms and A1 clones or WWII era gear and M1 Garands. Shit looks cool, so people like it. Does that concept just trigger your autism or what?

>>

I mean, I wasn't even really trying to imply that the gear in the first pic doesn't look badass to some folks. I just felt that it was a categorical imperative for me to blow up that dude's face.

Maybe this completely not staged photo.

I like his tape magpull

It's not outdated, it's just made for a different environment than what we were recently fighting in.

Woodland was meant for Germany/Central Europe, and it would still work great there and in other darker temperate forests.

Same can be said for other patterns:
3-Color Desert = Middle East
6-Color Desert = Mojave Desert
UCP = Urban combat in Baghdad
Multicam = Mountains of Afghanistan
ERDL = Jungles of Vietnam
M1942 Spot = Jungles of Burma and Guadalcanal
>>
>>30228159
I think the point is, M81 may work in Woodland areas, but there are other woodland patterns that typically work better. Speaking from experience (airsofting in Germany as a kid) I can say that some colorations of Flecktarn, MARPAT, and Frech CE worked better. I was the American kid who had his dad's BDUs and, honestly, they kind of suck.
>>
Oh wow a camo pattern doesn't work in places that its not designed to work in

Wow who knew
>>
>>30228965
...yeah and it's worse than the others in places that it was designed for.

Jesus why are all tripfags so retarded. The guy was using his experience with these camos to make a point and contribute. Also a good portion of /k/ plays airshit.

I mean, isn't that exactly what M81 shills are doing? The USMC conducted a variety of their own tests which showed that M81 wasn't approaching the effectiveness of other patterns. The army has reconfirmed these findings in two subsequent trials. You're claiming that those military designers' findings aren't relevant. The only organizations that have continued to field the pattern in the US did so to conform to local Afghanis who were issued M81 surplus stock.

I think you're giving those patterns a little too narrow of a scope. Yes, those were the AOs where they were worn, but that doesn't mean they were specifically designed for those regions or even work very well in those regions. UCP certainly has no business being called an urban pattern. It didn't work in Iraq in general.

Never been in a gearfag thread I'm guessing.
