First order of business: why are spare 870 barrels so goddamn expensive all of a sudden? I have an old Wingmaster I'm trying to get a high gloss 18 inch barrel for, and I can't find one for any less than $170. Would it be prudent to look for used examples, or should I just bite the bullet and take the hit?
Also, opinions on rifle sights on a smoothbore?

Well there's your problem, I thought everything they made was parkerized. Their catalog still lists the 18.5" improved cyl police barrel at $105
I find any kind of sight besides a bead slows me down and inhibits the "point and shoot". Although i have done slug sniping with a friend's ghost ring sighted 590 which was dope as heck.

I'm reposting from qtddtot because I assume this is the place to actually find someone who knows the answer.
I'm looking into buying either a Beretta A400 or a Benelli legacy sport. I would assume the Benelli handles pretty much like any other semi auto shotgun, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the recoil-dampening features of the A400. I'll be getting either gun in 20 gauge.

Marlin 1898. Unfortunately, someone has fired a lot of smokeless through it, apparently 2.75" shells. Chamber is sort of fucked, though the gun is functional.
