How effective would a 7.62x39 ar pistol with a 10" barrel fireing 122 grain subsonic hollowpoints through a suppressor be for home defense? Any better ideas? I thought about doing the same thing but not subsonic and with 230 grain .460 rowland hollow points.
It would probably work about as well as subsonic .300 Blackout. Which is decently well.
On a side note, how is a subsonic .460 Rowland different from a .45 ACP?

just be aware that your rounds will still go through the walls. A firewall should stop them....it might not though. So in an apartment this might not be the best weapon.
Your .460 would be better....so long as you out a can on it.

the recoil will be a non-issue since you have a hand hold up front. If you really MUST stabalise it use an AR stock adapter and put on a sig brace.

Subsonic .300 uses a 200 grain projectile or something to be effective and subsonic. He's talking about a 122 grain projectile subsonic, which would have a much lighter powder charge. It'd be the same as shooting someone with a 7.62 nagant round just about, or shooting someone with an AK at like 700 yards. It's gonna hurt, but it's not going to be as effective as a high velocity round in close proximity.

Not quite. The .300BO was made for 10" AR's and the 7.62 wasn't. If that's the route your going to go might as well get the .300 and call it a day. Plus you'll be able to change out uppers should you feel like it.

No it would work about as well as .38 special but it probably wouldn't cycle for shit without careful tuning.

Longer case, after market barrel, more expensive to shoot, you would have to load your own and it completely defies the point of using the .460 in the first place.
