Britfag here. If you are a policeman it is a lot more stressful as a firearm carrying officer because of the legal consequences, stress and legal issues with using one. It is fairly easy for any police officer to take a course but honestly even in shitholes in the UK isn't as bad as the US so its more for counter terrorist (Airports, tube/train stations) than crime reasons (street patrols, the SO19 are mainly the ones that do the gunfights). But it comes down to personal preference in the end. If you're a copper and want to hold a firearm there is nothing stopping you to take the course. It's like a parody of one that no-one is buying into. 90% of people are well aware that you can just tell them to get fucked and they have no power of you.
