It was designed as a "specialized guard killing dagger" and the perfect fighting knife, when using any other generic dagger to silently kill a man would get the same results, and it's a terrible design for a fighting knife.

Whether or not the OP is being sarcastic, the FSFK certainly was of no value but was still used because of its designers' claims.

There weren't a whole lot just sitting on the shelves because there wasn't a lot of demand for killing knives prewar but pic related were in the catalog of one of the companies that eventually made f/s knives

Pig stickers were some of the more common off the shelf daggers that were available and issued before the milspec knives were mass produced

>>30202832
The f/s didn't have a great reputation with a lot of the people who got the chance to use them which is why you see so many variants theatre made and post war that tried to address the issues like the a/f knife

In WWII the kabar was very popular as soon as it was issued and the m3 trench knife was too because they didn't have a lot of the flaws of earlier fighters, it was hard for regular grunts to get them because the ones that didn't go to airborne and sf were snatched up by officers. I've heard that the SAS dumped their f/s knives in favor of them too

Here's what a 30 year vet said about the kabar vs f/s

>What special forces like most is a nice wide non-slip grip, and these had that! We didnt care too much about the blade as long as it was over 4 inches long an inch wide at least, and thick enough up the tang not to snap off when cranked about inside a human body. You could soak this grip in water or blood and still keep a good working grip on it.

>We hated the Sykes-Fairbairn as the blade tips snapped off in bone and the grip was designed by a surgeon who thought he was doing brain surgery. We had to tape the grips but would mostly use "throwaways" (blades cut from plate steel with the grips taped) as they could be left behind without issue loss, and you could carry several on your webbing.

-Robert Loki Thornton
Former SAS regiment NCO and Special Force consultant

The kabar and the m3 by way of the m7 bayonet still get used for good reason

"specialized guard killing dagger"

The exact phrase was "sentry removal" anyone whom has read the Applegate guide would know that.

>generic dagger
The FS knife is THE defining modern "generic dagger", everything before it was either a single edge, bayonet, or a medieval relic.

All the "Generic combat daggers" you see today are a direct result of the FS knife, alongside the V-42 Stiletto knife.

People who own these usually own them for the historical sake, because they were made obsolete by the plain edge Gerber mark II fighting dagger, and the slightly less combat effective but infinitely more practical design of the standard KA-BAR knife.

Aww... crap. Handpalm.

According to KnifeCenter advertisement, the Jagdkommando blade is made of "... 440A stainless titanium".

... It looks like the manufacturer uses the word "Titanium" as a buzzword. It appears that there is no any titanium metal used with this mall-ninja toy.

The term "440A" is used to mean a type of low-cost steel with high corrosion resistance. 440A is good material for low-cost/low-quality "starless steel" blades which need to look good and shiny in a wall mount. Low carbon content makes 440A blades easy to sharpen but too soft to hold a proper edge.

> The lanyard hole allows the Microtech Jagdkommando to be used as
> expensive ground stake for pitching a tent. If used as a weapon,
> Jagdkommando has similar qualities as a sharpened U.S. G.I. 12-inch
> Aluminum Tent Stake. You can buy a 12-pack of tent stakes for under ten
> bucks, or one Microtech 105-7 Jagdkommando for over $1000."
>>
>>30207865
440 isn't low cost

It's about 3x the price of 316 stainless

440 can also be hardened to 60 HRC easily and is easily machined.
>>
>>30207899

440 stainless is what most Leathermans use, it's a decent enough metal that is easy to maintain.
>>
>>30207899

The "440" is a group of stainless steels, with "A", "B" and "C" variants, and a couple of sub-variants.

440A is the cheap low-carbon stainless steel.
440C is more expensive metal with higher carbon content. It is used for good-quality blades.
>>
>>30207976
440A is not "low" carbon by any means, it's on the upper end of mid carbon.
>>
>>30207906
Leatherman has been using "420C" and "440C" stainless steels.
New blades appear to be made of "420HC" (stainless high-carbon). That is, same stuff as 420C, but they just point out that the "C" variant is "high-carbon" compared to A and B variants.
420D is used for razor blades and surgical scalpels.

The original Gerber Mark II had plan edge, but the resulting dagger was considered "too brutal", and was banned from sales in US military bases in early 1970's. The ban was by-passed by making serrations to the blade, so that the dagger could be sold as "saw-edged survival tool".

The remaining plain-edge Mark II's can be quite expensive.

However, Stykes-Fairbain, Gerber Mark II and their copies share a common problem: in most versions the "wasp-waist" grip has rounded cross-section, so you can't know where the cutting edges are just by feel, and you need to be constantly shifting your grip and feeling the handguarad with your fingers. Some SF daggers have also very slippery grip.

Applegate-Fairbain has oval grip cross-section, so you can always feel from the grip where the cutting edges are.

Assuming she was ready to fire from that draw. Assuming the fact her hand is against her face means that's as far as its coming back, there is a perfectly valid school of thought about drawing the bow itself forward.

Good luck doing that when your forward arm is already straight and level.

None of it actually made sense anyway. It's a longbow, the two fingers doing the drawing should be pulled to the middle of the cheek. So she's either a weak bitch (highly likely) or that bow is way off size for her.

It's not even remotely like any kind of actual service sword the US military ever used.

If the US actually produced a generic "officer sword" circa 1942 it would almost certainly have been either a type of cutlass derived from the M1917 or a saber based on the model 1913 cavalry saber. Either way it would have a proper guard of some kind, probably a full basket hilt and either a thick, tapering, double edged blade with a pointed tip optimized for thrusting from horseback or a curved blade with a regular curving, drop point tip for shipboard use against (most likely unarmored) boarders. It certainly wouldn't have fucking serration and a tanto style point.

It doesn't even look like an authentic US design from that period, I hope you shat on that dudes truck.
