So I got a Chicom Type 81 four pocket chest rig in the mail, straight by China Post.

It looks unissued, has that good surplus smell, is double stitched and sturdy, and even has that ink moonrunes stamp at the back. It feels amazing.

But the little wooden knobs and loops aren't there. In their place are velcro patches.

Was this something featured on newer Type 81 chest rigs? Was this a just-before-export modification? Was I just sold a knockoff?

Hey, don't blame me, I took advice to get this thing from you idiots.

It was either this or the 3 pocket. And the reviews were equal, so I splurged on the four pocket. On the bright side there was no shipping or tax.

Should I try and return this thing? Or should I just keep it as a fuck-around-on-the-range vest?

Mayflower APC or the $280 LBT 6094 that's on eBay right now are relatively affordable options. What are you looking to spend
>>
>>30200148

I'll post my list again

"Quality" carriers:

London Bridge Trading 6094 ~ $398
Mayflower APC ~ $220
Crye Precision JPC ~ $249
Tyr BPC ~ $259
First Spear Strandhögg ~ $419
Shellback Banshee ~ $180
LBX Tactical Quick Draw ~ $169
TAG Vanguard ~ $209
Eagle Industries PC ~ $269
Velocity Systems Scarab ~ $325
Paraclete HPC ~ $179
Protech TAC PR ~ $265
HSGI MPC ~ $369
Tactical Tailor Fight Light ~ $334
5.11 Tac Tec ~ $186
PIG PC ~ $329
MARZ PC ~ $299
>>
>>30200203
Within the 200 to 300 range for a plate carrier, then going to invest 600 to 800 in an ar and another 200 on misc stuff, gloves, knee pads, med kit etc. about to acquire a .22 from my grandfather next time I see him but want another rifle as well.
>>
>>30200273

Listed prices are "new" condition prices
>>
>>30200283

Is that $200-$300 carrier + plates? Or just the carrier?
>>
>>30200273
Would you mind ranking them or they all similar quality just depends on taste?
>>
>>30200292
Just the carrier. Are the ar500 plates decent quality?
>>
>>30200292
That's just for the carrier. Another $400-600 for plates. Armor is expensive and is usually the next to last piece of kit people get aside from NODs or super expensive optics.

If you get armor, do it right. If spending this much is too painful, get other gear instead.

>>30200295

AR500 plates are what they are. Some people prefer them. They're heavier, that's for sure. As for the quality of the carriers, they're all about the same. The Banshee, 5.11, and the LBX are probably a little poorer quality than the rest, but I know several people who run em with no issues. I wear a carrier daily and would run any of these and not worry.

Would you be adverse to side by side open topped rifle pouches (either cloth or TACO) and then side by side pistol pouches? That would keep your ammo up front for riding in a car, but would still make the overall front slimmer.

Anybody recommend me a bag to carry my stuff? Looking to hold 1-2 rifles broken down, plate carrier, battle belt, mags, my future helmet/nods, and other assorted stuff. Really don't want something that has molle all over it and screams taticool. I already tried a cheap duffel bag but not having a supportive bottom it become difficult to carry.

Now I just gotta choose a Chicom from the links you all gave me that won't get me cucked again.

Do you want one that only has off/on or are ones that have variable output but with memory good too?

Most good lights have an on/off button that you can select level or modes with contextual presses or holds of that one button. You don't even notice the other modes or levels 95% of the time as the button acts only as an on/off during normal use.

I'd prefer just on or off, but if the memory doesn't get in the way, I mean if I can set it up as on or off and never have to worry about it then it's fine too.

You have to be wary of sellers. Make sure the product has at least 50 reviews and five photos.

I only ever got snookered once, but it wasn't so bad. I wanted a Rothco-type TAD knockoff in ATACS-FG, so I was basically asking to get robbed in the first place. The jacket was actually in a pattern called "MILTAC-FG", a Chinese bootleg of ATACS-FG, the same colors but done in a "digital" pattern. I actually liked it and the jacket itself was no worse than a Rothco, so I didn't complain.

>>30209014
Yeah, even actual soldiers who do real long dismounted missions will sometimes take their helmet off on the downlow during a hike. The weight just isn't worth it unless you are dealing with explosives or need a NOD mount.

Gear queers tend to pretty much focus on rifle threats only. If you wanted more all encompassing protection, you may as well go all out with helmet + full armor carrier + nut flap.
>>
>>30209026

HAHAHAHA THIS fucking guy...

Helmets are what separates the pros from the fuds and protect from 1/3rd of casualties and 2/3rds of fatalities. The people that say helmets don't matter have never deployed, seen someone come back with a hole in their helmet and their nvg plate shattered into pieces thanking Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for their heavy and uncomfortable issued helmet... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbCK2Tb_i30

There is no luck necessary, helmets save lives regularly and head wounds are more profuse and take people out of the fight quicker because of the nature of the trauma... What I am saying is, if you plan on actually using your gear set-up and surviving to fight another day, you would have a helmet...

Here's where you can get the patch:
http://www.kelsmilitary.com/HeerBreastInsignia/GBI-007.html
But before you buy it look up how to apply a German Bevo patch, it's requires lots of complicated cutting and taping down to get it to look right. I did that plus added velcro to the back.

On the helmet, the brain is the most vital organ, and I'd like to protect it. Others have mentioned fragmentation, but many people have survived rifle shots to the head from wearing their ACH. I didn't see it on my deployment, but in the deployment before mine two guys were hit with rifle rounds and survived because they were wearing their helmet. One from an AK and one from a Draganov.
When returning fire, your head is going to be the most exposed. To not try and protect that, and cite "it adds weight" is hypocritical. Plates add weight, but you want to protect your vitals, don't you?
I don't criticize anyone for not wanting to wear a helmet, I've worn them long enough to know that it does suck for long periods of time, but the helmets we have now (the ACH) is the best in the world and taken 100+ years to get to. To not take advantage of that doesn't make sense to me. Y'all roll with what you want, I'm wearing a helmet.

>The people that say helmets don't matter have never deployed, seen someone come back with a hole in their helmet and their nvg plate shattered into pieces thanking Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for their heavy and uncomfortable issued helmet...

Generalizations, the post.

Having reduced weight, especially on your noggin allows for better situational awareness. If you're sweaty, uncomfortable, and fighting against your own gear, you're taking your attention away from your surroundings.

In some circumstances it is preferable to sacrifice material protection for increased mobility and awareness. Comfort is a constantly overlooked aspect of weighing gear choices.

Sorry, I was just whining because I've been waiting for months. The websites says they'll have them in July though.
>>
>>30217698
Oh thank god! Practically the only retailer that sells them in the UK got restocked after several months a couple of weeks ago. Sold out entirely within a couple of days. I was panicking madly.

Bloody airsofters, they ruin everything.

Not as bad as it could've been.

Still no reason to stay there for 21 days if we were just training for 3.

You guys get to eat from those taco trucks? Honestly, those alone make NTC a little less shitty.
>>

We were bigger fans of the Schmuck truck and the ice cream trucks.

The tacos would induce explosive shitting, and there was always a shortage of toilet paper.

Anyone have experience with PIG gloves? Are they worth the price over some Mechanix?
>>
>>30220382
Did you make the PC?
>>
>>30221348
Short answer? Yes, get the PIG gloves.

I've only been using the FR versions for about 6 months now, but they're not even that worn out around the fingertips, even after all the fuckerey I've done with remedial action and barrel changes on the 240.

My old Non-FR FDT gloves are sitting in my bedroom drawer, after 2 years they just have a couple holes in them around where the vents were.
