Today is 6th of June, 57,500 Americans and 75,215 British and Canadians from the sea and 15,500 Americans and 7,900 British from the air.
set-off in one of most daring operations. Let's dump some pics in honor.
>>30187113
Damn I never realised there were more bongs at the Normandy invasion than burgers. Guess that's due to me being a burger and we're basically taught that they invasion was mostly us with a little assistance from being bongland.
A handwritten note believed to have been drafted a month or two before the D-Day landings shows that Montgomery’s battle plan boiled down to a single piece of paper.
>>30187228
if OP's numbers are correct, there were 73.000 americans and some 83.000 bongs/canucks involved. which isnt that much of a difference, considering the latter had 3 beaches and one drop zone whereas the yanks had two of both
having said that, Omaha and the american drops didnt go all to well, whereas the bongs/canuks were relatively more succesful (iirc) which makes them less interesting topics
>>30187262
>>30187250
>Montgomery’s battle plan boiled down to a single piece of paper.
I think the best battle plans are stupidly simple.
Napoleon is even to have said that he favored a bold plan to a clever one.
>>30187269
>>30187262
2 American beaches
3 British beaches
2 Canadian beaches
2 US airborne divisions
1 UK airborne division
Roughly equal, but yes you're right that popular history suggests the Americans did almsot all of it. Remember also that in Russia many haven't even heard of D-day, and they (rather correctly) see the whole western front as a bit of a sideshow.
Do you think those guys would have jumped out of that plane over France if they knew they were fighting so 70 years later boys could use the girls bathroom?
>>30187289
I think we shouldn't try to pretend that generalizing the opinions of tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of men is in anyway a good idea or good use of a post.
Unless you have some 150,000 interviews you would like to share.
>>30187289
Yes because 70-80 years down the road isn't their problem
>>30187250
>most secret double underlined
>SIMPLICITY triple underlined
I like this battle plan.
>>30187281
>3 British beaches
>2 Canadian beaches
Gold was all British, Sword was British/Canadian and Juno was British/French and i'm sure somewhere there were some poles involved aswell
>>30187289
i like how this bathroom issue is dividing a nation
just make a single bathroom with out of sight urinals and unisex toilet stalls
>less cost for the owner
>less space taken by bathrooms
>no bullshit for swjs to get their knickers in a knot over
the only real losers would be toilet bowl manufactures
>>30187289
Yes, we should let genocidal fascists conquer Europe because something bad might happen in 70 years. What a spineless little worm you are.
>>30187281
That is a bit ridiculous, German air assets having to be moved between 2-3 fronts alone was pretty significant. And without the material support of the allies they simply would have failed.
>>30187326
>genocidal fascists
I think that's a bit harsh, the Soviets weren't exactly fascist even if the shoe fits.
>>30187342
>I think that's a bit harsh, the Soviets weren't exactly fascist even if the shoe fits.
If "the shoe fits" is not the deciding factor if you are a fascist or not, then what is?
>>30187281
>Remember also that in Russia many haven't even heard of D-day
Which is pretty amusing considering how rectal ravaged Stalin was about the Allies opening up a second front.
>>30187325
>unisex toilet stalls
That'll go over well. Women don't want to piss with men pissing right next to them.
The nation isn't cool with this idea, no matter how much the SJWs think otherwise.
>>30187289
pls don't say this, you'll just trigger some sjw cuck here that will tell you to GO BACK 2 /PAWL/
>>30187357
>teaching your subjects that the man of steel begged the capitalist dogs for a second front because he couldnt handle hitler himself
>>30187228
We had more troops there than the British, the Canadians had another 15,000 or so troops
OP here, as for numbers they are Bongan estimate. Source : Ellis, Allen & Warhurst 2004
But other statistics and estimates state "150,000" Average.
what I didn't know Patton was so fucking mad that he was put in charge of a fictitious combat unit.

>>30187325
Juno was mostly canadian with british commandos there as well. Sword was British and French.
Photo : fucking up of the Atlantic wall.
Can anyone identify the bombers ?
>>30187490
Shit here's the photo
>>30187487
woops, little mix-up on my behalf
>>30187493
A-20's, and the aerial bombardement was mostly ineffective due to the bombs falling too far inland because of the fear to hit their own troops
also, is that Pointe du Hoc?
>>30187458
It was a smart move. 1 the germas were sure that patton would lead the invasion
2 to punish patton and keep him in check.
This here is a Bomb, the only Canadian Sherman tank that fought without interruption from D-Day to VE-day.
>>30187113
Today i'm in Normandy, and the weather is quite similar, military reenactors are everywhere, and i'm stuck at my stupid work
desu i think you shouldn't forget thosands of czechs, poles, belgians and fuckton others.
>>30187559
Oh man, too bad you suddenly got food poisoning and have to leave work
>>30187568
Dont forget all the Germans who made D-Day possible.

>>30187577
I want to, believe me, even my gf told me not to go to word (since we work together) and that she'll make up some story.
But i'm a paramedic, so letting peoples down in my field is not sth you forget about while you watch this great armada.rolling in the boccage.
At least I saw the 2014's one, shit was more epic than a Hans Zimmer soundtrack.
I'll try to go get some pics in the parade fields if they're still there when I leave. Just went by a small covoy of Jeeps and GMC on my way to work this morning, they were probably rallying the beaches.
>>30187534
He had some temper - I've read somewhere
that if he wasn't "in action" he would go fucking nuts.
>>30187568
Yep I remember don't worryI will try to find exact numbers. Being Pole with a double citizenship it's my job to list every nation.
>>30187559
Ah, for fucks sake
>>30187534
Thanks for clarifying - yeah that's Pointe du Hoc
Here's General Maczek of the 1st Armoured Division with Ike
>>30187618
Damn, again
>>30187618
tbqh i think that listing each nation accurately is impossible
tens of thousands of expats fought (and were counted as) under different flag than their own simply because instead of enlisting into their armies in exile they enlisted british or american one. That or their governments did not form one.
>>30187609
>paramedic
Well i guess you might have done the right thing anon. That does sound cool tho, wonder if someone's recording it
>>30187272
That's in keeping with the French fighting spirit at the time. Boldness and speed of action was more important to them than meticulous planning. And there's some truth in that, when you have the right elements to use (as Napoleon often did).
>>30187634
Years than don't end in "4" are more scarce, I'm not even sur that the French president will be there, it's more about some private reenactors from all across europe (there a fair share of Americans and Canadians too), rolling around with their toys in military outfits.
It's basically /k/ all around, at least when the ceremony's over, drunk peoples everywhere, shooting their blanks at the sky like no tomorrow.
In '4' ending years, shit is pretty formal, and there's even more vehiculs, tanks and shit around.
12 years ago there was a shooting range with actual WW2 weapons, except it was all pellet guns...
TL:DR, watch the 2014 one, best one around to this day.
>>30187665
Addendum: the 2004 show had the actual 101st airborne paratroopers jump from the same planes, they were 60-70 y/o at the time.
Now most are in bad shape, if not dead. The 2024 one will probably look like what we recall of WW1 cermonies, poilus in wheelchairs.
All political bullshit aside, thanks for their service, dying here for a place they didn't knew.

Can't find proper source right now but think the brits also supplied something like 75% of naval and 65% of airport for d day
>>30187325
My university had this. They weren't "gender neutral" bathrooms, they were just fucking BATHROOMS. There were no urinals, just a fuck load of stalls/cubicles.
>>30187665
Man that's a lot of pristine hardware, glad they had some German stuff there too. Never been to france, maybe 2024 will be the year
>>30187765
I wish you do, Americans and Frenchies usually get along well when not separated by an ocean or a online shitposting device.
Also 2024 will probably see the Saumur museum come with it's Shermans, retrofited hobart funnies, and most importantly der only remaining Tiger 2 still functional.
They talk about something like that since it's been working again.
>>30187150

their annoying shit storms only mean anything because people give them attention
I didn't care when gays were getting btfo'd by kikestians, I didn't care when they "fought" for the right to get married, I didn't care when kikestians got btfo'd by them and I REALL REALL REALLY don't care about where the take a shit so long as it's not in my mouth

how can any other feeling compare to the one where you're falling while being para dropped deep into enemy territory during day time along with over 1000+ comrades?
I was in Normandy for the 70th anniversary doing some ceremonial duties and with quite a bit of sight seeing and stuff in between. It was amazing.

All better men than me.
Today is my 21st birthday, and in a weird way, I feel connected to these men. My grandpa jumped into D-Day as a combat medic, and I'm going to get a 68w/Opt 40 contract at the end of this year.
I'll drink to all of them, tonight.

My dad's old boss was a Major (or Captain) and was at one of the British beaches.
>beach was littered with British dead
>no time to clear them out of the way
>priority was to land as much hardware in as short a time as possible
>tanks were slowly weaving up the beach inbetween corpses
>boss runs up to leading tank
>screams at commander to drive full throttle up beach to support infantry
>all tanks share command and obey
>churned up bodies were unrecognisable after a few minutes
Incidently he got shot just beyond the landing zone not long after, he said it was like being hit full force by a sledgehammer, he had all tge wind knocked out of him and collapsed to the floor in shock. And except for a spell in Palestine in 1945, that was his war over.

Not quite. The Nazis basically bit into every single misdirection play that the allies played that day. Hitler being Hitler also prevented a proper counterstrike.

A clumsy alt-right appropriation of D-Day with a political message only a lunatic could make.
Shameful.

>in landing craft
>surrounded by other soldiers dressed in WW2 garb

it would smell like fresh blood and meat instead of rotting blood and meat. im not sure which would be worse given the contexts.

I bought a pair of boots from ATF years ago. They were still made in America at the time. I still wear them at my daily wearers probably 3 times a week. After 8 years, I had to get them resoled for the first time. Not a shill cause I can't speak for the rest of their stuff but the boots are comfy and rugged as fuck and they look like the real deal.
About a third of our NCOs the RSM, the CSM and every officer above the rank of Major were of WW2 vintage. We were in very good hands.
d-day piper Bill Millin, avoided being shot to pieces as the Germans thought he had gone mad marching up and down the beach playing as everyone was being cut down.

Yes I understand that, I guess what amazes me the most is the fact that the germans didnt have more resistance on the beaches. I know they were tricked by alot of misdirection but surely they could have pulled some divisions from Italy and Africa to help defend the fucking coast line.

>>30191719
Well that's an unfortunately american-centric way to look at it...
As a canuck, here is how I picture each world war's western front.
So you have a bar, and there's this guy, Otto. Otto picks a fight with William. William doesn't want to get his face punched, so he calls his little brother Ricky. Ricky's a lil bit rural, so he isn't afraid to take a punch, and he and Otto go at er. Loads more people get sucked into the fight, and now we're four hours later. Everyone is missing teeth, William has a busted jaw and once again Pierre is unconscious. When Steve shows up. Now, we called Steve like, three hours ago, so we're kinda a bit pissed Steve took so fuckin long. Buuuuut, Steve is fresh, uninjured, and brought a lead pipe and a helmet, so whatever, lets get this done. Ricky holds Otto's arms and Steve cracks him in the teeth and there, we're finally done.
America shows up late every time. Not because they are JUST SO GREAT THAT THEY END WARS and not because their glory hogging cowards, but because while they're still your friend, they're a little bit self-serving, so they wanted to make sure they were all ready, prepared, equipped, and fighting a wounded foe, so as to minimize risk to themselves. Even if it's sorta at the cost of their allies.
All of you seem to assume the US didn't do shit until Pearl Harbor.
Doesn't the Battle of the Atlantic ring a bell?
>>30194015
It's not because they want to be dicks, it's that America being an isolated continent it's pretty understandable that they tried to stay away from the usual European shitflinging that's been going on pretty much nonstop for literal millennia.
