Which branch are you enlisting/enlisted/considering?

Ask questions, get advice from retards on how to lie on the poly, bitch about recruiters, accuse each other of stolen valor, just keep it in this general.

Asking again because last thread wasn't really pointing me anywhere

TL;DR my recruiter told me to lie about an old vandalism charge from when I was 15, I made it through MEPS, no hiccups, he says my FBI check from MEPS came up clean
I wasn't fingerprinted or arrested for the charge, and I did a juvenile diversion program, I never even had to have a trial. I ship off in a couple days, am I fucked?
>>
>>30184486
>>30184519

Yeah, you know, you should just get that engineering degree before you swing over to law school and then finish up an MD/PhD program across town before getting your MBA. I mean, if you're just looking to grab cool certifications that don't really jive with one another then do whatever.

Halfway through an History degree and I'm considering dropping out to join the military. Lost a good scholarship, and from this point forward I'll probably have to take out around 10k a year in loans a year to continue. I enjoy studying history, but I honestly don't think this degree is going to be worth the ~20k I'll be in debt when I graduate.

I would've went with the military straight out of high school if it hadn't been for that scholarship. Should I just drop out now to join up, and maybe use the G.I. Bill to pay for the rest of college (and maybe a Master's) once I get out?
>>

Former green beret thinks we all want sympathy. Lol. Fuckin silent proffesional my ass. Do you just troll job sites talkin shit under that screen name hoping some NG privates gonna jump through you monitor and suck your asshole?? Or wait….your chris kyle- matt bassonete material. Silent but loud, proffesional but disgracfull to your team…….you could wear a fucking solid gold beret with diamonds like the elton john blowing bitch you are, but to claim some just want hand outs. Man, I dont know how you made it in the army shit talking your commrades like that. Its disgracfull…..worse than chris kyles lies in his books, or the two glory hounds from seal team six bragging about shooting bin ladin. Is it true that a civilian can earn a slot for WOCS?

My question is, is it possible to get a slot for WOCS in your contract?

I've always had the impression that a WO rank gets snagged by E5+ members, that is, only enlisted can earn the rank.

Ah, might already be fucked then. What kind of GPA must you have to commission? I think I'm at like 3.3 right now.

>>
>>30184692

Again its guranteed, deploying in the navy isnt like other branches. The navy still deploys ships constantly even though we arent at war. Especially west coast to keep an eye on North Korea and China.
What jobs/rates did you have in mind?

It's harder to "switch to active" than it is to just go active in the first place. If you want to be active, don't join the reserves/guard.

The GI Bill only pays a certain amount of tuition, less than what Stanford costs I'm sure. So they either got grants, took student loans, or had a rich mommy or daddy. The thing withholding enlisted from Stanford is much more likely economics rather than capability.
>>
>>30191505
well, shit. I guess i would also be randomly assigned a language if i ever made it into SF as i have heard multiple people be assisnged random languages when they knew 60% of another language.

>>
>>30191599

Stanford covers the difference in tuition, plus the GI Bill will kick out about $30k-40k to live on.

Not that it matters. Top level schools don't actually deny people who deserve to be there based on finances. Almost all of them will pay 100 % of your tuition if you make it into the school on talent/intelligence alone. The only people who actually shell out ridiculous amounts of money for top-tier schools are people buying their way in who are already upper-class and just continuing a family legacy. Rich kids subsidize poor smart kids.

OK, good for them. But like I said, how many slots do they have? Because my mid sized state campus has 7 slots first come first serve. Their webpage looks similar, they never advertise how many they allow. Only they are a proud member of the program, it's a PR thing.

Not like any of you are going to Stanford anyway.
>>
>>30191701
This. If your family makes less than $125,000/yr then Stanford gives you a free ride anyways. You can absolutely combine this with the GI Bill and get paid a nice little salary to go to college. The trick is getting accepted.
>>
>>30191789

I've been reading up about enlisting in the air force. It looks like a lot of people are saying that you swear in and pick your job at BMT. What if they give me one of those open contracts? >>
Give it to me straight, guys. If I enlist as infantry, what are my chances of actually doing something cool or travelling to other parts of the world?
Or is it more realistic to assume I'll be sitting around a base in the middle of nowhere, bored out of my mind?
>>
>>30184358
I've been thinking of joining up for a while now, but I've got too much going on in my life at the moment to worry about being deployed.

So I was looking into reserves, but I'm not sure which branch is best for avoiding deployment until I get my life squared away, while still receiving some kind of firearms/combat training.

I was thinking of maybe going for GM in either the Coast Guard or the Navy, but what are the odds of being able to do that while still being in the reserves? If I can do some combat or infantry related mos in either the Army or the Marines with low odds of being deployed, I'd jump on that too, but that doesn't seem likely.

Basically I'm looking for a reserves infantry/combat related mos that won't get me deployed anytime soon. Branch doesn't really matter. I've been Googling shit all day and don't feel like I've made much progress, so before I talk to a recruiter, I thought I'd see what you guys thought.

And I'm not sure anything else appeals to me besides infantry.
I don't know what to do.
>>
>>30193634

Well, see, heres the thing bud.

You join the Army Infantry, you get good ASVAB scores, you're motivated, you got good work ethic, you train hard, you get good PFT scores, and you're not a shitkunt, there should be no reason why you cant go Ranger or go into one of the several schools you can volunteer for. You never know when something is gonna kick off and the 75th are always into something, even if its training.

Compared to the Marines you get out of your Infantry specialization school or whatever and you get thrown in a dark room for 3 or so years and whenever you try to get past Lcpl or want into something neat they say "Hey, fuck you cunt, you wait until next enlistment."

If you like training and conditioning, rucking and running, now is a prime time for Infantry.
>>
>>30193729
That is an option I had considered, I just didn't say it because everyone who talks about it gets shit on and told they'll never make it.

Also, when going infantry, what are the chances of being stationed overseas?

Does affirmative action, and I use the term somewhat loosely, exist in the things like ROTC and the academy?

Obviously googling has a lot of results, but maybe someone has some experience.

I don't give advice about shit I don't know so I'd advise you shouldn't. If anything in the peacetime corps infantry he can expect MEUs. They condition and train pretty hard for them.

We get plenty of classes and specialized training. Maybe less opportunity than big Army but I've been to plenty. We also get lots of training at the unit lvl that is stuff had at schools just condensed into a work week.

The only point you have is the ladder up to 75th or other SF. But it's not impossible in Marines either.

Other than that, I think you and I just have different ways of looking at this stuff. That's not a bad thing, though. I'm definitely open to doing things the way you're suggesting, I just want to know what my options are.

I'll probably talk to a recruiter in the next week or so, but in the meantime, is there anything you can tell me about reserves? I'd wait and ask a recruiter, but a couple friends of mine who are enlisted got fucked over by their recruiters and I'd rather hear what people who have been through everything have to say first.

By the way, what do you think of being a Navy or Coast Guard GM vs. some infantry specialization in the Marines or Army?
>>
>>30184827
>>30184637

You need a secret to sit in a stryker as marine infantry, it is extremely common for an 03 to have one.

Not sure if you were army and things are different over there or you're just a lying faggot.

>got fucked over by their recruiters
I gurantee thats your friends fault. I say that cause you gotta realize a recruiter isnt your friend. He has billets to fill you if you go in not knowing exactly what you want then you will get fucked.
>Navy or Coast Guard GM
As far as navy jobs go GM is pretty good. Depends what you want out of it though i suppose. I knew plenty on my ship and most of em liked it. At the end of the day it just comes down to what you like doing.
>>
Six months into the air force officer process, haven't heard from my recruiter in a month. The last thing she told me was that the "position number" has been assigned to me.

Shit is gay. And they wonder why so many people get frustrated and go do something else with their lives, and why they are having issues filling out the af officer corps.

Affirmative action.
>>
>>30194036

No problem brother. We're all gonna make it.
>>
>>30194322
Ohhhh i see and of course i agree but when that applies to women its so much worse. Women in the military are complete scum and human garbage. They have it so easy and will do anything to get ahead.
>>
>>30194087

I'm not trying to talk out my ass, just saying what I have heard from scuttlebutt and other people talking, and yeah, nah, I dont think I am wrong for saying that the Marines fuck you over for no reason other than to maintain an aggressive mentality. There is a REASON that the Marines wont promote you past Lcpl on first enlistment anyway.

Also, there is plenty of sense in what they do. The Marines have some 30K people compared to the Army's 500K, its not hard to imagine that the reason for the Marines being such a difficult process to move through being mathematical.

And if you would please list the equivalents to volunteer training programs like Airborne, Sapper, Air Assault, etc. I would be happy to hear it because it would help me form a better opinion than what I have now.

So bad i cringed

>i was almost forced to concede your point but due to you making a mistake regarding exact numbers (even though the general point remains precisely the same) i am now able to red herring you out of useful discussion

ur toxic

>There is a REASON that the Marines wont promote you past Lcpl on first enlistment anyway.

Former 0311 4 year corporal, nice to meet you. it occurs slower, most guys who don't get out e4 were shitbags or NJP'd.

>Marines have some 30K people compared to the Army's 500K

Wrong... Google is your friend. You are way off on our military numbers.

>And if you would please list the equivalents to volunteer training programs like Airborne, Sapper,

Sapper would be an 0351 in the Marines. They attend same school, different MOS. I did Intel, specialized CSI, and UAV. Also Mountain Warfare.

>Air stuff

If you want to jump go Army. But that's like 1% of the job.
>>
>>30194620
wut
>>
>>30194638

Can you lads attend a sapper school if it isnt your MOS?

>>30194653

You might not be the person i was talking to
>>
>>30194686
I meant 0351 Assault men goto same school as 0311's, SOI.

We cross train with Machine Gunners and Mortars but don't really get to fuck with the explosives.

My buddy was an 0351 and let me mold c4 into a Bangalore with him tho.

these are questions about being part of a tank crew

>what are the requirements

>what is it like being in an abram for long periods of time.

>How often are you in combat

>when you are in combat how often are you met with a threat that could decommision the tank

>what do you do on a regular basis both deployed and on base

>what kind of gear are you given that isnt standard issue. for example how WWII tankers had special holster and were often issued the M3 Grease gun.
>>
>>30194820
Forgot to add

>Why the fuck would you ever want to be a tanker
>>
>>30194874
why not?
>>
>>30194820

You will never actually go into battle with your tank, because the era of large armored warfare is over. If you deploy as a tanker, you'll leave the tanks at home because they cost a million dollars to start and are useless at hunting down sandpeople in god-forsaken desert shitholes.

Russia/China aren't going to start WW3 any time soon, and by the time that sort of power parity exists tankers will be mostly replaced with drones and lasers and shit. Tanks will be so much more effective without the gooey human-filled center and all the bullshit needed to sustain life.

I agree with affirmative action based off socioeconomic status. A really really poor kid can never be expected to have have the same stats as some kid with two parent's as doctor.s

Are there any armored or light armored vehicles regularly deployed, that has a combat role.

At least not on average. Of course there are exceptions.

Anyone here know what the most often taught languages are in the DLI currently? I ship for BMT in a week for the Air Force, AFSC 1A8X1.

I know the chances of me getting a language I actually want to learn are slim, so I'm curious about what they have actually been teaching as of late.

Hi meg, I know you get this kind of question four times a thread, but tonight is my last night before the hotel. I'm going to meps tomorrow to get a parking ticket sorted before I go in on the eight. I've had two emergency room trips and a car accident that I didn't fess up to. I'm getting a secret clearance, will any of that come up and should I try to get it sorted out tomorrow?

What's better for Navy CTN or IT rate?
>>
>>30184358
Any corpsmen wanna give a potential HM some tips, stories etc?

None of the other rates really "help" people, or have to potential to station you anywhere, or as much potential to learn/get certs, so I'm going HM when the time is right
>>
>>30196293
In most cases, CTN.
>>
>>30196293
>better
What does that mean?
>CTN
Hard to get a contract for cause its a small community and the school is extremely hard.
>>
>>30184797
There isn't that much of a difference. The gpa boost for STEM degrees is very small. A 3.6 in gender studies is worth more points on the OML than a 3.4 in engineering.
>>
>>30197543
To add on to that, for the Navy Science/Math gets like a .5 boost or some shit. It's not even worth it unless you legitimately want to study STEM.
