No shit you fucking yuppie you went to the tourist destinations, I was in Greece during the riots and I didn't see any of the unrest because I was in a tourist town, do you think people who vacation in America go and visit fucking Flint, Detroit or Cleveland? Do you think they visit Harlem if they come to New York?
Where tourism is a part of the economy, there's this overhanging agreement from most parties around to keep it nicer and cleaner in public because that means tourists will keep coming there and putting money in the area.
Not to mention that Africa is a gargantuan continent and that there are vast differences not only between the northern, middle and southern regions of the continent, but between many countries, if you go and vacation in Zanzibar it's going to be radically different from vacationing in Congo or Zimbabwe (as in, Zanzibar would be safer)
