I refuse to believe that no one has taken a professional sound meter and tested the best suppressed handguns, suppressed SMGs, and suppressed carbines and figured out which was the best for a quiet fight.

What's the world's quietest combat firearm? Or prototype combat firearm?

The quietest ones must be these ruski pistols firing gas sealing ammo.

I have a bolt action 24" bbl single shot bolt action .22. It's quiet enough with colibris that I can't tell if it fired or ftfed pretty often. I'm planning on getting the best .22 can on the market in a little bit. I figure with that combination, it'll give yall a run for your money. I'm shooting for 30-50 db, but I'll report back when I do.

I haven't done my research on cans though except from what I've seen, all .22 dedicated cans are really small. I really don't mind something bigger than a chinamans cock, so well see if I find anything. Something a foot long isn't bad here. Also hoping its steel and has a simple shape, I'd like something that matches the 1920s vintage of the rifle

hand nugget only seals up the cylinder gap
he's probably talking about 7.62x41mm SP-4 rounds
instead of the burning powder's gas going out the front of the cartridge, accelerating the bullet down the barrel, and loudly exiting into the atmosphere at the muzzle, like a regular gun,
the SP4 contains its gas in the cartridge with an extra piece. The bullet just gets kicked out of the cartridge and goes out the barrel alone. This complicates ammo manufacturing and wastes the chance to propel the bullet efficiently using the barrel, but it's quiet, and supersonic speed isn't desirable on something quiet anyways.

>>
>>30161870
if you want a big overkill .22lr can, a 5.56 can might be the ticket
make sure it's a user serviceable 5.56 can, though. .22lr is filthy, so a can for it has to be cleaned well and often, and to clean well, being able to take it apart is very important.
5.56 doesn't get cans nearly as dirty, so manufacturers don't make all 5.56 cans capable of being disassembled.

Thing is, you can't get any kind of automatic below ~110 decibels unless maybe it's something like a .22 with a tiny fucking bolt.

They're small, but effective. Something that big like you said is probably a custom job or you can form 1 and make one if you can use basic machine tools. .22 isn't really rough blast or pressure wise on suppressors to require exotic materials, its just dirty and nasty.
>>
What's the point of putting a suppressor/silencer on a small caliber firearm, like 4.6 or 5.7?
>>
I'm putting my money on one of the following being the quietest
"combat" firearm.

The DeLisle
The Amphibian (or similar) built from Ruger Mark II pistols
The 10/22s the Israeli's use for crowd control or whatever they do with them
The MP5SD
Maybe something weird like the Welrod?

They all have ported barrels to bleed pressure from the barrel into the suppressor, ensuring subsonic speeds. In the case of the .22 pistol and the DeLisle, the rounds are already subsonic and this just helps more.

They all also have fairly large volume (size) suppressor bodies, which helps despite the technology used being old and of less effective compared to a modern baffle design.

The DeLisle is bolt action, and the other two, while semi-auto, may be equipped with a bolt lock to prevent it from automatically cycling.

There's a trade off in energy of course. The MP5SD is very effective at its purpose: firing commonly available nato 9mm ammo at subsonic speeds. But because of the porting to the barrel required to drop the velocity, it produces energy around that of a .380. I've seen it fail to knock over steel poppers once or twice.

If you open up the field to using specially designed ammunition as well, then there's probably a lot more out there.

Also, I'm glad you stated "firearm" and not weapon, or I'd just post a picture of some tribal dart blowgun.

Even when supersonic ammo is used, the silencer will eat the muzzle blast and flash. It takes the edge off, so to say, making them more pleasant to shoot.

For a tactical or tacticool answer, the crack of the bullet being supersonic is still loud but it is harder to determine the source of the shot by ear. Equipment designed to detect gunfire direction like is mounted on some vehicles will still do it, I think. I'm not experienced with using those.
>>
>>30165867
Yeah, I'm asking about doing the job the guns were made for. You can put holes in paper with just about anything.
I'd think that you'd want to keep the round subsonic, so with the velocity limited, you'd want to make the mass grow.
>>
A .22 with a very large suppressor is up there. With a bolt action you can get to around 88dB peak.
With a center fire you'll be looking at a low 100s at the lowest. Guns with fuck-huge cans are on top. De Lisle was, at its time, but nowadays a suppressed .308 or .300 is better and quieter. De Lisle would have been quieter had they gobe with the 9x19 model, but they chose the .45 brcause the suitable ammo for it was easier to obtain at the time.

With an integrally suppressed centerfire like De Lisle or a .300BLK, which is superior, you'be be hard pressed to get below 110.

The quietest usable centerfire that I know of was a captive piston 30-06 that put out 108dB. But it was captive piston so it's kinda cheating.

>>30165882
For most tactical applications you'll want to use supersonics with your suppressor.

With supers, the location of the shooter is harder to spot and you don't lose the ballistics at all.

The Splinter Cell sryle huss huss thingy is very very rare. Usually silencers are used to mask the location of the shooter.

By all means, do show me a center fire firearm that produces less than 108dB suppressed, measured with modern equipment.

Inb4 "lol De Lisle 84dB!!1!"

Protip: the equipment that was used to measure peak pressure up until 80s is shit. The same equipment measured unsuppressed 9x19 at 120dB...

iirc those kinda guns only shoot like 600fps

The Greeks used "expertise" with a different meaning than moderns. We mean specialist knowledge, they meant the ability to differentiate between truth and bullshit.

If you have expertise - acquired through a casual acquaintance with the field - you'd know he's right, or at least not wrong.

But since you're a lazy fucking piece of shit who can't be bothered to self-educate, you won't know, and will forever be dependent on begging for sources from your betters. Sources I will not provide, because, having expertise, I don't need them as an intellectual crutch.

Air guns have been used by specialized sniper unit in several European nations historically. People use airguns in hunting. I am not sure how loud the report is for the hunting variety of airgun is though.
>>
>>30166301

Some suppressors require that because of their strength or the heat produced, like for example shooting .300 through SOME 9mm pistol suppressors. They'll be rated for .300 subsonic only by the manufacturer.

Some ammo is subsonic in its natural form. 230gr .45ACP ball is an example.

Otherwise, no, normal supersonic is fine but you will have the sonic crack from the bullet.
