what is marked on the receiver? Regardless that appear to be the proper wood to convert...tho that skinny pistol grip tells me it may be a post-ban? regardless you did good, maybe not great but you can flip a nice profit on gunbroker tomorrow.

An nah. We have a rule in this family. We don't sell guns. Ever. This is a gift for my old man, an Air Cav Vietnam vet. He always wanted one. The next gun I'm cleaning is a Chinese SKS 56 that he pulled from a burning field of VC and brought home in his ruck. It's never been fired. And dirty.
No pics at the moment but I recently got a Colt AR carbine with a weather resistant case for $850, I know I could build one for much cheaper but then I wouldn't have the pony stamp

That means the gun came into this country with a thumbhole stock and the pistol grip/buttstock and likely threading/removal of welded muzzlenut are aftermarket and "scary" not 922(r) compliant likely. good thing you didn't manufacture it right?
still tho it seems to have the right buttstock and pistol grip for the time so it was probably converted over with factory norinco either long ago or as new old stock. since your reciever is marked out i'd assume and elctropenciled your gun may be pre-no threaded muzzle but after no pistol grip 1989 import bans. the elctropeniciled mak90s I think were Type 56s stuck in customs.
For $600 you did fucking good, especially converted with the right shit.

Sorry didn't see that pic before I responded. So your gun is a later model after the import ban begin and is the first wave of bands (no pistol grips (Cali local laws, 10rd, modern AWB cukery, type 56s name banned). So after that they imported federal (Cali legal) thumbhole guns called the MAK90 for a bit. Then that shit became illegal and they imported the MAK-90
"Sporter" to bypass the law. Then all chinese imports were prohibited and that was the end of chink gun.
So your gun is actually not collectibile but its still the best AK in the USA imo. I've tons of chink guns. They are the best out of everything short of good kit builds imo.

So your gun was one stuck in customs or made in china after the "MAK 90" become illegal. So they electropenciled it the "MAK 90 Sporter" and it was legal. God bless America.
I got this Legion Saiga 7.62x39 for $430. It even came with a bubba stippled handguard. I've already popped the rivets and thrown away the old furniture. I'll do a full conversion on it.

Sorry if I'm jumping around. See my other comments. This marking is one of the most common for Post-Ban 1989 "Import AWB" Chinese AKs. It was imported/mfg after the "MAK90" became banned by import by name a a few years after, so they scratched on "SPORTER" and it was legal.
It's not worth thousands like Pre-Ban Chinese guns but is the best gun for the money
Stag arms ar15 model 2 (bought by my uncle right after sandy hook for 1,200$), a 50rnd drum, 10 20rnd mags, 5 30 rounders, a 45 round quadstack, a 20in gas tube (in addition to the 16in one on the gun), m16a1 furniture (in addition to the a3 furniture on the gun), 20in barrel(in addition to the 16in on it),folding irons, carry irons, a 500$ peice of glass, and a thousand rounds of annealed Israeli 556 for 600$ and a days yard work.
I think I'm gonna buy a m16a1 lower from brownells, and a royal tiger imports m16a1 damaged upper and Use the m16a1 furniture, gas tube and barrel I bought and buy all the internals sans a bolt carrier.( I'm just gonna switch the bcg's out to the one I want to fire.) and I'll have a nice ar capable of 1moa(stag arms) and an m16a1 replica.

GLN prefix with the F stamp. She runs like trash on steel case but I honestly think she just needs a new extractor and extractor spring. I'm going to hone the chamber more also because even the brass case sticks a little when she gets hot n' dirty.

I bought this off a buddy for $300, he needed money to fund another project and I wanted the gun so it worked out alright. Turkish Mauser, receiver still has Arabic writing on it dating it to 1893, barrel was updated in 1937 to 8mm. I've shot the gun several times in the past with him and its a wonderful shooter, only issue is the firing pin spring is pretty week, only likes to set off Romanian 8mm ammo.
