I kinda like that about it though, it's clearly seen some use, and bubba hasn't tried to pretty it up like most of the ones out there. (also it was cheaper and I don't feel too bad about shooting it)

No, see thats wrong in the world of gun collecting. When you get something like that its supposed to be pristine because value not use. Mine will resell for 10k one day while yours is a wasted investment thats going to be bought for like 5k as a parts gun at best.
Guns are investments. Rare ones are better investments. Ya know? I mean if you REALLY just wanted one to shoot and say you have then fine I guess but I buy everything with the idea that its going to be resold one day.

Mate not everyone buys guns with the intention of selling, far more do to actually shoot them. You're the outlier.
He also said he got it cheap. Say for example he bout it for $1000 and yours for $2000, and they're later worth $5000 and $10000, he made the same 500% you did.

Well the old guns, the originals, are.
But those collectible 100 year commemorative guns, they're about as collectible as NASCAR commemorative plates, with almost the same value.
My Garand might be my favorite rifle. History, looks, fun to shoot, sToPiNg PoWeR, and not totally impractical on a battlefield today. Does anyone else get like this?

It's a big piece of milled steel and usually American Walnut, the main issued weapon to the US troops, any true American would like this gun.
But the whole ping thing is memery. I barely ever here the fucking thing go ping on a moderately busy range.

just finished machining the barrel vise and action wrench yesterday and pulled the old barrel off. gotta do the bolt handle cut/reweld next which is gonna be a bit of a project

for me it was the same thing, untill I met a guy at the range who had one and offered to let me shoot it. shooting was pretty decent, but it was the moment when he said, "hey, wanna see something really neat?" and then proceeded to tear the stock of in 3 seconds without tools and exposed the glorious forged/machined reciever and elegantly simple and well engineered mechanism. I knew then that I needed one.

That's my point really. It is a overall a good gun, but has few issues that prevent it being great.

in my experience the only way to get Garand thumb is to be totally unfamiliar with the gun. once you learn that the bolt WILL NOT CLOSE as long as you maintain firm pressure on the top cartridge, then you can leave your thumb in there for as long as you like without fear. then just lift your hand in a swift motion and your done. easy.
now the Ljungman on the other hand...
