And he doesn't even need to actually do it - bots do, and feed images to OCR. Storage is cheap, CPU power is even cheaper.

Otherwise there is literally nothing you can do with a serial number that won't put you at risk for getting fucked back 10x harder. What are you going to do, report it stolen? I have paranoia over my serial numbers and always obscure them. I recently made a thread about my surefire light and noticed it had the SN exposed after I posted and I deleted it quickly.
I don't really care about someone fucking with my shit reporting it stolen, I'm just paranoid some fag from here will be at my local range (and I have seen them) and out me as someone who goes on 4chan. I legit don't want to be associated with /k/ let alone 4chan outside of this website.
