Eh. F-35 development certainly did use Soviet experience of Yak-43 and Yak-141, to an extent. But that's not stealing, as obviously pretty much none elements of Yak-43 were directly implemented, and Lockheed would be retarded not to use any available experience with similar air crafts handed to them on a silver platter.

Most likely something to do with control laws and stability analysis in vertical flight. While the F-35 is a completely different plane from the Yak-141, they do share a similar layout, meaning that Yakovlev's research for that still could have been useful.

The F-35 was designed via computers that aren't soviet garbage to make it more of a lifting body and increase stealth. I seriously doubt that's true.

What I meant was the layout it had for vertical flight. Though they have entirely different lift systems, they generally have the same layout - a main engine providing thrust towards the rear of the aircraft with some kind of supplementary lift further forward. That means they probably were similar enough in vertical flight such that Yakovlev's data on the stability and control laws would have been useful.
