Can you silence black powder weapons?

It's a really stupid question but I'm curious.

Black powder is more explosive in nature... it burns much faster than smokeless.
>>
As long as the projectile itself is subsonic, it should probably work.

The cleanup would be a bitch though.
>>
thats the smallest hand I've ever seen.

Must be Trump.
>>
>>30078285
Yeah, that can would get dirty in a hurry.
>>
>>30078293

You're looking at a bore that's nearly one and a half inches..

The hand is beneath the bore and would appear to cause it to look closer to two inches but that's just distance trickery.

That rifle could send a half pound of lead at 1,500 fps.

It's genuine badass shit.
>>
>>30078806
3500 grain projectiles?
Nice
>>
>>30078259
You can, but you would still need a stamp for the suppressor if that's what you're thinking of
>>
>>30078806
>That cannon could send a half pound of lead at 1,500 fps.
Fixed that.
>>
>>30078859

Google that shit.

Youtube that shit.

2 bores are so badass they can defeat body armor because if it hits you on your chest plate it would likely snap your neck or crush your heart.... without penetrating.

It's literally that fucking STRONK.

>>30078880

Bummer, right? I doubt you could actually silence a 2 bore while maintaining a maneuverable weapon length...

You certainly couldn't snipe with it long enough to kill more that a few people without breaking or dislocating shoulder bones.
>>
>>30078897

OP here. On the Wikipedia entry for 2 bores it mentions a wealthy Englishmen child touring Africa with a 2 bore saying "every time I fired it, it spun me around like a weathercock" and "my Islamic escorts named it "son of a cannon".
>>
Now wait a second.

>"The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm."

So an antique firearm isn't a firearm?

>"The term “Firearm Silencer” or “Firearm Muffler” means any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for the use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication."

So a suppressor/silencer/muffler for antique firearm-not-"firearm" isn't prohibited, nor would a suppressor for a permanent fixture?

Am I missing something?
>>
>>30078965
I do not remember the exact reason (I am open to correction), but from what I understand silencers are considered completely seperate from the firearm, and any silencer that you could put on a black powder gun would work on a real gun. I've looked for the loophole too, lol

OP youre a giant fag. Smokeless powder burns much much faster than blackpowder. And y'all posters are mongs too for not noticing this
>>

>(D) any destructive device
Is a wrecking ball a firearm?
>>
>>30078993
Right, but a silencer on a paintball gun isn't an issue because they aren't firearms (so says the ATF), and the part about the firearm needing to be portable is interesting too.

Set up a rifle on a swivel and weld the fucker in and it's g2g it seems?

No.

If it could work on a BP firearm it could work on a modern one. It's that "redesigned" part that makes a lot of things like this verboten. There were Crosman airguns with suppressors that got v& by the Bureau of Always Targeting Fido.

Nope. A suppressor is a suppressor. Doesn't matter what it's attached to.
If you had a suppressor and no gun or no intention to ever buy a gun, you still have a suppressor.
Neat rifle.
>>
>>30079348
Unless it's attached to my car, then it's an automotive muffler. Or if it's attached to a permanent fixture (per atf definition), so there are ways around this poorly written definition. Or rather poorly executed version of the definition.

Not seeing anything on youtube supporting this assertion, buddy.

True. You could have an oil barrel on your range to put your rifle into to use while sighting in and that would be legal since it isn't considered portable.
>>
>>30079421
I don't think you will find any proof of his assertion.

But looking at the figures for it.

A strong load for it according to wikipedia is a 3500 gr projectile at 1500 ft/s yielding 17500 ft/lbs of energy. Which is substantially more then a .50BMG.

I don't know if it would penetrate level IV armour . But I really doubt the deformation limits for the rear of the plate will stay in survivable tolerances. Even the splatter could likely be lethal, a half pound projectile flattening out on a hard plate is going to send some rather large shards of lead in all directions and could easily end up going through the jaw and into the brain.
>>
>>30079220
People have still gone to jail for airgun silencers. Not an area I would venture into, sure its technically legal kinda but the ATF doesn't always see it that way and if they get a hard on for you they will use it to rape you.

The ATF has successfully argued in prosecutions that you could attach the air gun silencer to a real gun and even though it would get destroyed by the first shot it would still silence that first shot and thus is a silencer
>>
>>30079421
Well, obviously we need to film it.

For science. Of course.

Do we know what the courtroom definition for "portable" is?

What the everloving fuck....

Was that a fabricated suppressor?
>>
>>30080279

It's a barrel extension. They're used for long-range duck hunting. Just a crazy-long choke tube really, but it make the gun a bit quieter since the gasses have plenty of time to expand and slow down before they reach the muzzle.

>>30080294
This, it's a 32" choke tube that results in 72 db shots when using subsonic ammo.
>>
>>30080329
Well shit that's actually pretty cool
>>
>>30080329
Don't forget that the sound escaping the barrel is going to be far away from the ear, mitigating its felt impact even further.
>>
>>30078259
Tricky, black powder doesn't combust evenly. Sometimes they throw burning powder.

Also
>Black powder is more explosive in nature... it burns much faster than smokeless.

Smokeless is more potent than blackpowder. You can't put smokeless powder in a blackpowder gun because it'll explode the gun.

there was actually a big rush pre-WW1 to adopt smokeless rounds when the french came out with the Lebel rifle and doubled their firing range over night.

Tripfags are annoying, but holier-than-thou anons feeling the need to tell everybody how annoying the tripfags are are at least 3x worse.

>inb4 you forgot your trip!
>>
>>30083955
They burn differently, BP burns faster in normal pressure, smokeless burns faster at high pressure. But in general, smokeless is more potent in firearms
>>
>>30084200

Ahhhhh. It burns faster than black powder in operating conditions...

That answers my question perfectly.

Every comparison I've seen of bp and smokeless is done as lines on the ground.

What if its integral to the barrel? Since black powder isnt legally a firearm is this some type of grey area waiting to be exploited?
