Anybody have a 9mm Range Officer?

I want another 1911 but I have enough .45s.

MAYBE a Delta Elite but I'm not enthused about getting into a new caliber.

It's not exactly the model it's reproducing. They're aiming for the ww1 version and they're off in a couple of ways but it's still a cool gun. I guess RIA is the actual manufacturer.

It's big and it's heavy and it has less capacity then a glock 26.

I got a question for ya'll about a malfunction I'm experiencing. Last round of the mag, case gets horizontally stovepiped bad enough that the front of the case is eaten by the slide. Any ideas?
>>

Purist bullshit aside, the internal extractor is the worst part of the 1911. Thats why pretty much every pistol afterward has an external.

Second would be the barrel link but that has pros and cons

Is this wear on my trigger a common thing?

I installed this wilson match trigger and i had to remove quite a bit of material from the top and bottom of the trigger to get it to fit properly. I liked that, because the trigger fits very snug and has zero rattle (unlike the stock polymer trigger).

However, it fits so tight that the finish on this side of the trigger is wearing down. This is how it looks after about 700 rounds with the new trigger in. Kind of makes me wish I had gotten just the bare aluminum finish trigger instead of the black.

This ever happen to any of you faggots?

Yes. I just put a Wilson short match trigger in a combat elite. Fits great, a little rub mark in one side.

You could remove the trigger and clean up the side of the trigger channel where the but is.

It doesn't bother me.

>You could remove the trigger and clean up the side of the trigger channel where the but is.

That's what I should have done right there. Guess I can minimize the scratch getting worse.

Not sure why i didn't bother cleaning up that part of the frame when i first installed the trigger.
>>
>>30081808
Generally you would take material off the trigger (cheaper part) but that would make it sloppy.

Use a sharpie to find the high spot on the frame and knock it down.
>>
>>30079025

something wonky with the extractor/ejector. easy answer is make sure your extractor is properly tensioned.
>>
>>30075823
>>30075851
i'm going to guess that the grip safety isn't original to the gun. it's blending to the frame tangs is non-existent.
>>
>>30082158
Might have something to do with the trigger. I'm assuming it's aftermarket as well. Has one of the easiest trigger pulls of any of my firearms.

I'm assuming you pulled a stock photo, but in the chance you didn't: how do you like those grips? I want t replace the wood on my champion operator, but I'm stuck between VZ and Pachmayr. I like the look and slimline options for VZ, but I don't know that the material would be as beneficial to CC as the plain rubber of the pachmayr. This is open to anyone.

the grip safety doesn't really effect the trigger feel, IIRC. that would be the sear/disconnecter/hammer contacting surfaces and the sear spring. even using it's OEM parts a person could have given it a nice trigger job.

depends what you already have and what you would use it for.
a 1911 is fun for target practice but also concealed or open carry.

if you already have handguns but no rifles get a rifle.

I do have a 92fs, a 357 mag, and a pf9 as far as handguns go. For raifus I have a 30-30 Winchester, a 22 semi, and a Lee Enfield, but the Enfield isn't in working order. (No mag and dirty as hell. I bought it spur of the moment like that years ago and never touched it.)

I haven't had any issues with any 1911 I've owned, except the one that had an external extractor. I don't know why anyone would pointlessly change something on it, that has worked for over a century.
>>
>>30086208
an internal extractor has to have a proper spring temper.
companies cutting corners and saving costs started making all small parts MIM and ran into problems with extractors breaking or malfunctioning.
so they switched to external which uses an easily made and replaceable coil spring.

my options for babby's first 2011 are either find a used one off of the forums - either a used DVC or a really used custom for about $2.6k.

or i could get a new SPS Pantera, a Spanish-made gun, for $1.5k

Spanish-Filipino with MIM. however, apparently the trigger's pretty decent at ~3lb and the fit has been described as on-par with STI

i'd probably also drop in a new grip since i'm not a huge fan of the built-in magwell. i'd like a metal grip but i could probably find a take-off STI DVC grip, get a new MSH and a nice mag well, and fit a SVI trigger and still come in for less than a used gun.

So what do they do to tighten up the fit now?

I was always fond of the old giles method for the barrel to chamber/locking lug support.

Do the newer heavy/cone/bushingless barrels have a better lockup or accuracy?

i think so since the bull/cone barrels have a larger bearing surface, and the lack of the bushing means one less part to have to worry about tolerances.

update: poking around Brian Enos, found these two. left is $2150, right is $2450.

the SPS with a metal grip and some upgrades (mag well, MSH, trigger) would slide in around $2200. plastic would drop it to $1900

magpul bruh, gotta deck out my 1911 like the videogames call of duty bruh.

I don't like magpul very much, but they're very textured grips with a cutout for the mag release.
Very reasonably priced as well.

jeez, $20 MSRP.

Beautiful slide. I just wish they didnt put that billboard serial number on the frame and went with the regular rollmark and serial number font.

thanks
most everyone on /k/ owns a gun designed by John Browning but not many have his portrait on it

I think what you're talking about is the model number and year. it's a 70th anniversary 1911, stamped "1911-1981"
I mspainted out the serial number, but it's a fair bit more subtle.

What's the best GI 1911 for the price?

Cool.

Auto Ordnance makes a WWII 1911A1 clone that can be found for around $425 and it's American made

Nice. That's about the price I was looking for. I'll look into it.

Trying to decide between getting an MC Operator for around $1,100 or a loaded for around $800 and throw on pachmayrs/GI recoil system for a sort of MEUSOC style 1911.

Is the MC Operator's price justified?
>>
>>30107074
Get a RO Operator if youre going to put paychs over it.
>>
>>30074500
how hard is it to add night sights to a 1911? I found one that I really want but I kind of want night sights....

Depends, if it has GI sights its a pain in the ass. If it has dovetailed sights its pretty simple. Either way tritium sights is a gunsmith job unless you have a sight pusher, smacking sights with a punch that have glass vials in them is a bad idea.
>>
>>30107074
Are you the guy that mention the Meusoc in every 1911 thread? If so, fucking why? They meu looks like burnt ass. Seriously take the other dudes advice, get a RO, slap the grips on and if that's not good enough drag it through the gravel and hit it with sand paper.
>>
>>30097883
This looks incredibly stupid, how is this in anyway better than a bushing?

Especially when said vial is filled with radioactive material.

I've done it though, for a shotgun front blade. Squeezed it in with vice grips then a little tappity tap tap from Mr. Claw hammer and a flathead on the base of the dovetail GTG. I gotta figure the shit can take a bit of shock what with it being built to mount on a gun.
>>
>>30109849
It can, but still not worth the risk.
It is however a fantastic excuse to buy a sight pusher.
>>
>>30105463
I would highly recommend you not use the magazine(s) that come with it, AO's are notoriously shit

Internals can be easily broken by letting the slide ride home on an empty chamber. Its hard sell a gun through a dealer when its breaks after the abuse of people pulling the slide back on it.
>>
>>30110905
thats bullshit
the only thing damaged would be the sear engagement on 1911 with really nice trigger pulls
and thats cause everything's tuned abusing it will ruin the tuning

with your standard 1911 you can let the slidedrop forever nothing will change
>>
>>30110955

i think traditionally you need to look out for the link and the barrel lug developing cracks or egging
>>

only scratch is an idiot scratch. I also own a MilSpec and it;s the first 1911 I have ever owned and even I have managed to avoid putting a idiot scratch on it

>>
>>30112552
No. I've had no problems with the cmc, Wilson, or Colt mags. Les Baer mags tend to be problematic.

I use the Baer mags at the range and carry Colt or wilsons. 10 round mags in nightstand gun.

any compact model owners?

i eventually decommissioned my Baer 8 rounder that came with mine. tried to put in a Wilson 47D kit, but things just weren't dimensionally close enough to make it work. that's about the only disappointing thing about Baer. honestly it's not too much of an issue, though - seriously who uses Baer mags when CMC/Tripp/Wilson mags exist?
>>
>>30113442
I agree. Baer mags are not up to the same quality as his firearms.

Should just come with cmc mags.
>>
>>30113490

yeah. they're just crappy 47D knockoffs. which is tragic considering how great a Baer pistol is.

>>
>>30086047

You don't need another handgun, you need a semiautomatic rifle chambered in either an intermediate or full power cartridge that accepts detachable magazines of 20-30+ rounds.

Basically you need graduate from fudd status.
