>Two F/A-18 fighter jets from Virginia Beach crashed off the coast of North Carolina Thursday morning after a "mid-air mishap," and all four crew members were rescued and taken to a Norfolk hospital to be treated for minor injuries, military officials said.

This is right offshore from me. I wish I was out fishing and saw it.

UPT? Chewing out, conditionals, you can get drummed out after you fuck up enough and they decide you're no longer worth it.

This? I don't even know, career death or lawful punishment if someone was fucking around. Hell, they're still in hellish hot waters even if it wasn't any of their faults at all, every single thing in this flight is going to be dissected and everyone makes mistakes and those are going to be compounded times a million in this case because it's the total loss of two aircraft.

You really only see guys getting off if there is some kind of 'heroics' involved or the one who made the mistake was killed.

I wonder the shitstorm here if the were brits/slavs/frogs, but since they're americans well they good boys, shit happens

i don't speak navy too fluently, but the dude on the left is a Lt Jg pilot. likely fresh from the super bug RAG and getting qual'd in his ops squadron. the dude on the right is a Cmdr NFO who graduated from TOPGUN. in the USAF he'd likely be a squadron commander or second in command (DO or XO).

midair collisions between two fighters, especially with a Severe Clear day like today, means somebody fucked up. if it's a young guy at fault, he might be grounded for a while, but if he's a little older he's probably done flying. either way unless something really bad happened like a complete flight control system failure when they were going to the tree and the top man couldn't control deconfliction. and even then they would only get that if they did something to put the jet outside of its design limits (or the maintenance crew installed everything backwards)

>>30073277

how far along are you?

>>30073701

two jets going down at the same time probably means a midair collision. so 7/10

See that face on the right? That's the face of the end of a what is probably 20 + year flight career.

Judging by the age difference between the two pilots this was likely a training mission and the older pilot was the instructor.

Man I would not want to be in that debriefing.
>>
>>30074089

the guy on the right is a Cmdr NFO and (from what i can tell) a TOPGUN or whatever they call it now grad. he knows what's up. the guy on the left is likely a brand new pilot.
>>
>>30073277

Air Force fag detected.

1. All radar in the area that have even a connection to the DASR at the air station the flight originated from will have all data pulled.
2. Everyone enlisted involved with auxilary systems, comms, radar etc. will be evaluated for fault.
3. The enlisted air crew attached to the squadron and especially those who have done maintenance on the aircraft will be evaluated for fault.
4. If no enlisted men can be blamed, then they will evaluate records of the pilots, review the statements that were made and determine if the fault was that of either pilot/copilot if applicable.

Navy = Blame enlisted first, save seniors first, okay okay maybe it was the officer's fault.

Or if you really want to lose a little faith in humanity, read up on the Iowa's turret accident.
>>
>>30074167
>>30074210

that's because there are only three reasons aircraft crash:

1. equipment broke because somebody didn't repair/maintain it correctly.
2. equipment broke in a way that nobody knew it could/would break.
3. the pilot(s) screwed up (this involves enemy action).

the military WILL hang the accident around somebody's neck. follow your procedures and you'll be OK. don't and the accident will drag you down.
>>
>>30074262

also the destroyer CO had her career ended as a result of that.

>Leadership demonstrates complete incompetence and will neglect on every level.
>People are warned, an accident was inevitable.
>Fabricate results and criminal findings in the report, blame on a single enlisted sailor and say he did it willingly.
>leak to the media that said sailor was also gay, further tarnishing a dead man.
>Fight tooth and nail to not owe up to the hundreds of continual and negligent mistakes committed at every level of command.
>>
>>30074241
> U.S. Navy, concluded that one of the gun turret crew members, Clayton Hartwig, who died in the explosion, had deliberately caused it. During the investigation, numerous leaks to the media, later attributed to U.S. Navy officers and investigators, implied that Hartwig and another sailor, Kendall Truitt, had engaged in a homosexual relationship and that Hartwig had caused the explosion after their relationship had soured.

That sounds like bullshit to me.

Someone higher fucked up and they came up with that story to cover it.

False flag to make us look weak and garner support for more military spending.
>>
>>30074403
Keep in mind too, that we recently has the B52 bomber crash, too. We're pushing the agenda that our forces are spread too thin, and are using outdated equipment... while we reignite war in the middle east, and try to spark conflict with Russia and China.

It's all a $$$ game, while the public is expected to support more spending, despite our own media lying too us about the state of employment and our economy.
>>
>>30074509

how does a midair collision between two fighters and a B-52 attrition due to an IFE mean that the fleet isn't ageing?

the F-15E is ~30 years old. the F-22s are 10 years old. the F-15C's are exiting active duty. based on my personal experience flying fighters for the Air Force, they are absolutely ageing and starting to break in new and unusual ways.
>>
>>30074393
>The next day Schwoebel, Schuler, Cooper, and Borders publicly briefed the SASC in the Hart Senate Office Building on the results of their investigation, stating that, in Sandia's opinion, the explosion had occurred because of an overram of the powder caused by either an accident due to human error or an equipment failure. In his closing remarks the committee chairman, Sam Nunn, rejected Milligan's finding that the explosion had resulted from an intentional act. Nunn added that Milligan's conclusions were not supported "by reliable, probative, and substantial evidence".[92] Nunn later criticized the NIS, saying, "The Navy's whole investigative technique here should be under serious question."[93]

>The investigation was performed by a single officer.

Holy shit.
>>
>>30074615
>Several hours after the explosion, Admiral Carlisle Trost, the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), issued a moratorium on the firing of all 16-inch guns.[45] Vice Admiral Joseph S. Donnell, commander of Surface Forces Atlantic, appointed Commodore Richard Milligan to conduct an informal one-officer investigation into the explosion. An informal investigation meant that testimony was not required to be taken under oath, witnesses were not advised of their rights, defense attorneys were not present, and no one, including the deceased, could be charged with a crime no matter what the evidence revealed.[46]

>Milligan boarded Iowa on 20 April and toured Turret Two. He did not attempt to stop the ongoing cleanup of the turret. Accompanying Milligan to assist him in the investigation was his personal staff, including his chief of staff, Captain Edward F. Messina. Milligan and his staff began their investigation by interviewing members of Iowa's crew.[47]

>During Meyer's interview by Milligan and his staff, Meyer described Skelley's gunnery experiments. Meyer stated that Moosally and Kissinger had allowed Skelley to conduct his experiments without interference or supervision. At this point, according to Meyer, Messina interrupted, told the stenographer to stop typing, and took Meyer out into the passageway and told him, "You little shit, you can't say that! The admiral doesn't want to hear another word about experiments!"

Everything here is done so wrong

>In a 10-page assessment of the investigation, which was released in April and recently made public by the Navy, Harris faulted a decision by the Lawrence’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Jana A. Vavasseur, to turn the ship immediately after the helicopter landed on the flight deck. Combined with the ship’s speed, the move put the vessel into rough “quartering seas,” he said, causing it to roll as large waves hit the deck.

Letting women command ships... WTF is wrong with Americucks??? This is what you get with all this diversity shit.
>>
Man that sucks. I'm guessing it was pilot error and they collided when trying to line up a formation or something. I bet at least one guy will lose his wings over this. I feel bad for whoever that is. Earning your wings is something that can take years of studying and dedication and hard work. Yeah they wrecked some expensive equipment but mistakes happen in training. And once the Navy takes them away you never get them back.
>>
>>30075336

a midair collision on a rejoin is a little less unlikely than in BFM or ACM
>>
>>30075333

Yeah and now she's riding a desk in Coronado aka her career is dead. Same as that captain who recently ran one of our billion dollar nuclear submarines aground. They don't kick you out of the navy but they damn well make sure you never get a ship again.
>>
>>30074615
