They literally can't understand that the kind of person that would break into a house in a blue-collar white suburban neighborhood probably isn't going to turn around and sprint away when they open the door and hear a 40 pound dog barking. Every female I've ever discussed this with has said the same thing, and yet they refuse to buy guns despite being paranoid about someone breaking in and spending thousands on alarms and shit to "notify the police" if someone does break in.

Men learn about guns from other men, who are more likely to teach them not to understand, respect, and appreciate guns. A woman who grows up in a healthy, responsible gun environment won't be afraid of guns, she'll see them the same as a man who likes guns, just like a man born in a super anti-gun household has a higher chance of not liking guns.
Also, a dog actually is a dramatically better way to keep your house safe. Any thief who does the bare minimum amount of scouting will find out if a house has a dog and avoid it. A dog is better for preventing home invasion than an alarm system. A gun is better for protecting your life should the worst happen. You should have both.

A 3 inch knife can do a lot of damage, more than enough to fuck up the arm that grabbed you. Sure it is terrible compared to a gun, but against an unarmed attacker trying to overpower you, sure. But a FOLDING knife carried OFF body is absolutely useless.
