I guess we havent talked about head gear in a while editions
>>
>>30060466

Used both. The MICH seems to run smaller than the "Fritz," btw. Ever since I got a modern retention system for my PASGT, I vastly prefer it to the MICH. I know that kevlar expires, but my helmets were made the same year.
>>
So I asked in that plate carrier thread, but only got one response.

How well does vented padding work on a carrier? Is it noticable difference? That one response from that other thread mentioned they were uncomfortable.

It's the only thing holding me back from going for that 6094S ebay link that one anon kept posting.
I guess that and fingers crossed for some sort of sale for memorial day.

I wore both. But only headband with pasgat. Those pads are nice. I want to buy some new straps, some that take the buckle off the left side of my face. Because it'd like a cheekweld on my rifle too.

yea. I mean, I understand that these things are to be worn snug and no matter what, sweat will build up, but a lot of the ones with it + cummerbund tend to be more than $200.

On 1911 holsters:
I use a serpa cqc. The concern about the release contributing to an ND is not an issue IMO. The safety shouldn't be flipped until the gun is rotated up on draw and before you holster. Dirt fucking the release is another issue...

Even if they cut the ears off for a gunfighter cut, it's still a mich shell. There's other designs like the cyre airframe that special forces n' shit have. but those will take time to reach regular infantry

My headgear is a fucking BCM ball cap. If any of you fucks can genuinely trick yourselves into thinking you need a $300 helmet set up, you're fucking retarded.

The primary usage for an infantryman's helmet is to protect against shrapnel and fragments.
You could though find use for a modern helmet, with its integrated night vision, earpro and comms. Pic related is what the FDF will replace its old helmets with.

It's both, though vehicles play a much larger part in COIN operations, whilst artillery is a much greater threat in conventional warfare.

It's a bit high, yes. I guess that additional neck protection wasn't considered all that important, though you might be able to pull it down enough. Would have to get one on my head to be able to tell.

It sits on your head better than the old one and has pretty good adjustability, though the plastic adjusters are quite flimsy and break easily.
Its more firm on your head than the old one so it's not as easy to cover your neck but still plausable. Also the earpros are GOAT.

In the winter or summer? If those issues exist in summer, they'll be twice as worse in -40c.

>>30060778
Less or equal to the old helmet. The goodies are well balanced on the helmet for maximum comfiness. It's not an issue.

>>
>>30060491
Expiration of Kevlar is notional. If it has just been setting around and taking no abuse it will last damn near your lifetime. However if you wear the same vest everyday for years and are constantly "operating operationally" the wear and tear of the fibers will reduce the vest's ability to protect you.

IMO:

Wearing a helmet for gear queering doesn't make a ton of sense unless you're working in a job (.mil/LEO) where it's required, you're using NODs, or you're doing something like 4-wheeeling (in which case a DOT helmet is better than going tacticool).

Helmets, no matter how light they are, are still weight on your noggin and they are going to still cause a bit of sweat and make you look like *very special* operator.

Now, if you're a gear queer who is military/LEO, I'll tell ya that is pays to upgrade your suspension system if you're using an off-the-shelf ACH. The standard suspension sucks, especially with NODs. You need aftermarket stuff that doesn't get so loose. Speaking of NODs, making sure your NOD mount doesn't wiggle is also a biggie. Either get a wider NOD plate, or if you have a standard one, hunt around for the strap used on the detachable mounts and run it (something I'm in the process of doing for my second wallhanger helmet). When it comes to lights, I've been ussed boxes of fancy shit, but really nothing I've found beats a humble headlamp 550'd around the helmet. The clip on lights that get issued tend to hand low and are just waiting to snag on your sling or armor. The IR features on them are nifty, but never get used. If you need IR, you'll be using a dedicated strobe or your weapon floodlight anyway.

You need a vertical male buckle on the PC front. A molle strap and a male repair buckle can work but it will be wonky. Maybe you could put some male repair buckles on the same nylong loop as the top females but it might be tight and get in the way.

Problem is attaching/removing that rig while you are wearing it. Attaching the sides might be a real ball ache. Even with a micro rig it is a tad awkward.

If you are dedicated to running it as a PC mounted rig, then cut off the females, put on some males, then swap the shoulder strap males for females.

The gunfighter, at least the SOHAH Gunfighter is literally just a CVC shell with pads and a chin strap. They actually offer similar protection and are lighter then said airframes, fasts, or whatever latest gen helmets.

However most CVC shells were made when the USSR was still around, and I doubt they still have IIIa protection anymore.

You say that, but if you were to run full pelt around a corner only to find a lowhanging pipe at eye level - a very sturdy pipe that not only stays perfectly still, but also keeps your your head in place as the rest of your body continues to travel forwards - allowing for half a backflip whereby you then smash the back of your skull into the concrete below. If you were to encounter such a situation, you may change your tune

If I'm in a position where I need a plate carrier, level 4 plates all around, 9 mags, an armoured battle belt, side arm, full camo, IFAK, medical backpack, etc etc, I'd probably want a helmet too as I'm evidently going into some serious shit.

>chestrig stripes going randomly over or under the plate

I wonder why people wear plates and chestrigs at the same time.

If u need armor then why not some low profile plate carrier like JPC? That way you spread the weight better and thin straps work ok with backpacks

The straps are actually pretty well fitted over the plates and the TAP was free.

The feeder pouch doesn't flap around when it has 400 rounds of linked 7.62 inside.

The facepaint is unit SOP. We know it's stupid, the joke got out of hand and SGM made it real. I'm the only one there who didn't paint his face dark green for the fucking desert.

When I joined the Army we had the PASGT helmet woodland camo, ALICE or LBV.

Now, the kraut helmet was stupid big, it sat low on the head and covered damn near everything. When you went prone while wearing an alice ruck the frame would push the helmet down over your face, you couldn't really use comms with it on and some people hated the suspension system.
Now personally I like the suspension, it had just a few points of contact with the head and the rest was open space so you could get some airflow. There was also a pad that you could strap in there that you could dip in water and it would swell up just like those cooldanas. It got swampy after a while, but it kept your brain from baking and it raised the helmet up a bit so you could see and hear a little better.
Some of the first generation ACH pads weren't made correctly, they absorbed tons of sweat and got really swampy and disgusting after a while and they don't allow for any real air circulation.
The big thing about the helmet switch was that the ACH covers about 30% less of the skull than the PASGT, which doesn't seem like a big deal except that it happened to be the 30% most likely to be hit by an IED in those most turbulent years in Iraq, consequently head and neck injuries rose significantly at that time and many units deploying then were given the option to retain their K-pots rather than use the ACH. Eventually of course the change happened anyway and by 2006 I think everybody was using the ACH anyway. Even the Marines, who had originally adopted an updated PASGT called the Light Weight Helmet. But the manufacturer fucked up and had to recall them all, forcing Jarheads to use the ACH instead, this was also about the same time they were all wearing coyote tan flight suits because their marpat utilities weren't fire retardant enough making them look truly goofy.

The PASGT offers better coverage than the ACH but it gets in the way a bit more, still my favorite though.

It sits around the top of my midsection when I don't have my PC on.

With the PC on, it fits tight as hell, I can't really use the map pocket with my PC on so I use an admin pouch for my range cards and GRGs.

Extra batteries live in the zip pocket on the right oblique, and I keep a spritzer of CLP in the right 2-mag pouch.

Not much of a problem, even when I'm wearing my AG bag.

You have better options, but this is a decent place to start.

Someone stole my truck which had my ACH in there. I also had a PASGT and I effectively lasted my entire korea rotation without being forced to get a new ACH. Shit was baller. I actually much prefer the coverage area and breathing, compared to the ACH. The weight is worth it. I think those things sit too damn high, and get too hot too quickly. I remember years ago trading for an XL or XXL ACH, shit was big as fuck and was like a pot. But I enjoyed it more haha.

We won't. We should, but we had a chance to change from a FPTP voting system which didn't go through and the campaign against the change is very similar:
Scaremongering, slanderous outright lies, entirely of political elite and media against it, and women being women and not wanting change or uncertainty.

>What do we live for?
sikk beats and massive drops

but seriously, I understand the point of having lots of pockets and storage, but I don't understand why you don't just get a coat with a lot of pockets instead of wandering around downtown in a tacvest and plate carrier. Even if you're a silly enough nigger to OC an AR, do you really expect to be firing more than 60 rounds in a single average day? Can you not fit a water bottle or even a full 2l canteen in a backpack instead of a dedicated Canteen Pouch By Tacticom(tm) 5.11(c)? It just all seems counter-intuitive to how someone would want to actually carry their EDC in a normal day, and in a survival situation, you'd probably want it all in an easy to carry bag or tote, and in a battle situation with a first world military, you'd be issued your gear. And if you're Le Scaring Le Gubment, you'd want your gear to be concealed. Literally what is the point of all this compared to just sewing an extra couple pockets into your windbreaker and calling it a day?
>>
>>30066636
6b47 is the newest. 6b27 is actually a bit more protective since it was designed as an assault helmet, though it's one generation older.

>not splashing out as much as possible on gear to let people know how successful you were in the past life, thus not a nigger by any definition of the word
Wouldn't you then want to rig your normally fashionable clothing to feature a lot of attachment points and pouches inside for your various tactical and survival gear to project an air of class only earned through being a dangerous psycho-social navigator who always has a sharp sitletto on hand, instead of looking like a mangy dog of the shogunate wearing tan in the forest and green in the desert as his master demands?

I dont keep my first aid kit on my chest rig, but you can project all you want kiddo. I have multiple first aid kits\first response kits\blow out kits that I take with me depending on what I am doing.

>t. first aid cert holder because I had to do it for my reservist job
If you are cool with that, then good. I am not happy with just a first aid cert.

>are you honestly saying you need more than 60 rounds and 2 litres of water in an average day
I dont know who you think I am or what kind of gear I have, but I can go from grey man to complete battle rattle. Also with how many cals I burn I need some food and some simple tools. All gear is just fucking tools. Pick the right gear for what you are doing. No need to wear a plate carrier, with no plates in it to the range or the grocery store.

Nope. Ruck march, ~4am. Fort Benning, pitch black. Anyone who's been there knows those damn narrow roads in the woods are cracked to shit and have many pot holes in them.
One of my feet found one. I went straight down; there was no recovering from that stumble. I fell flat with my knees and forehead hitting the pavement first. That ACH saved my head and face. You, motherfucker, are probably a straight wannabe military fuck who plays airsoft

Should I go for the d3cr? I don't need pistol mag pouches since I don't have a pistol and I don't think that stacking pouches upfront is a good idea. Also how good are these pouches for carrying medical stuff?

Neat, too bad I'm broke and payday is a week away.

While I might like that 6094S carrier , I do want something that breathes, even a little bit with spacer mesh.

Anyone have experiences with these two $200 carriers?

I'm always a buy once cry once guy.

I'd suggest the Wilcox L4 G24 and their J arm.

They are rock solid.

I took a look at those, decided I wouldn't be satisfied with it for how much they charge for it.
I like the norotos invg, but they're much too pricey atm. the rhino 2 is good enough that I don't mind waiting a few years while the market evolves.

Recommend me a shirt and jacket. Any weather, any time, any place. Money's no issue
>>

Actually, fuck it. Help me build an entire set up. Need a plate/rig, pants, belt, and shirt+jacket combo. I live innadesert, but something I could get away with wearing while driving my truck

Dress like the locals, and get a chicom
Look poor and unimportant

It'll obviously double as my /out/ gear, so camo's not really on the menu. I don't exactly want to go in shorts and a tank

Some companies that I've used and liked
Arcteryx: is pretty good on everything
Arktis: for their smocks
northface: they can make some nice things
tag: I liked their shagmaster for nights
Duluth: I like their pants
Frog togs: waterproofs are cheap breathable and easy to pack away and above all else disposable.

summer isn't that hard just get something lightweight and breathable.
I personally like wearing 100% cotton in dry heat.

Get a slick PC or BALC vest & a chest rig based on you weapon and your preference

They started issuing kevlar pads that hook into the straps of the ACH and give soft coverage to the back of the neck.

I never cared to wear it, but if you're worried about a loss in coverage, that pad allows you as much as the PASGT while still giving you the advantages of increased head mobility and ACH suspension.

I don't have any experience with the Vangaurd but if it's anything like my Gladiator chest rig, also by TAG, then you are good to go my friend.

How do you like the HSGI drop leg panel? I've been contemplating getting one, but I just can't bring myself to do so without a few decent reviews.

How do magpul MS3 slings come packaged?

either I just bought a really good knockoff or I bought a genuine MS3 sling for £5. It has magpul logos/branding printed onto the plastic and came in a cardboard backed polybag that you split in half to reveal the wearing instructions.
