I doubt kabar shipped something dull, but if they did I like to use sand paper on a flat surface to sharpen my knives. start at a low grit and then work your way up to 2000 or 2000+. Use painters tap on the parts you don't want to scratch up.

I see those at my local gun shop, I'm damn tempted to buy one since I have a knife sharpening fetish.
I can only get things so sharp with a 1200 & 2200 grit ceramic rod. Still, at least everyone else is always super impressed by how sharp I get my and their knives.
