I really want to build something like pic related from a 20inch upper, but not sure if I will regret it down the road. This would probably be my only AR for a while.
Should I just go for the 20inch A2, and be done with it? I live in a suburb, and mainly shoot at the range.

modularity. one lower many uppers.
At least get a flat top upper.

this rifle is as you see it plus a M4 16" upper.

>a flat top upper
I thought about this, but the detachable carry handle doesn't have the right aesthetics.

Just make sure if you want a fixed carry handle, do your build right.
My first ar15 I shot was a colt a2 hbar. Very nice desu

Op build what you really want. I did. Ar15sport.com has most of the bits you need to build an upper. I got my barrel from Windham Weaponry. Lower was built on an A2 parts kit from PSA. Building the A2 rear sight was a lot of fun.
Pic related, my A2. DETACHABLE CARRY HANDLE A SHIT

This should be interesting!

If you want an m16 carrying handle tyoe of set up just get the upper with a 16inch barrel (anything above is just uncomfy and not practical for a carbine use)
And slap a nice collapsible on it, nt the hard plastic buut ones and make sure it has side sling mounts

I'd run a flat top upper, 20in A2 barrel, with a Red dot or a fixed power optic (3x-4x) and a flip up rear sight from someone like troy or something. I wouldn't really recommend magpul. they were alright, but they really were for emergency use only. really hard to hit out past 100m with them.
Or I would build exactly like pic related.
Spikes tactical/Moe slim furniture/
= 5.9 lbs ar without the optic.
O-ring, the most important part :)

M16 is a good platform it was my service rifle and very reliable.
Ours didn't have collapsible butt stocks tho, even then it is a broom in a room for clearing rooms.
I've successfully shot on target with one out to 800 meters. Granted my buddy was spotting for me and I was Kentucky windaging like a mofo.
