Does short sightedness give me a heavy disadvantage in combat?
How do i compensate for this?

This. You will be wearing some kind of Eye Pro anyway. If you are that insecure about it just get Lasik.
>>
>>30020955
The scars from lasik can rupture if exposed to a shockwave. It's incredibly uncommon, but it has been reported before.

Glasses can fog up easily if you run around a lot. You should be wearing eye pro regardless however. Just wear contacts underneath it so that if you need to air out your lens, you are not completely blind
>>
>>30021046
>Glasses can fog up easily if you run around a lot
I've run marathons and literally never had that happen. The only time it happens is when you're wearing a mask or some sort of face covering.

Not allowed in some militaries, ie canada

>>30020991
Just wear the fucking things.

>>30021008
Well this is /k/. The gear queer threads get pretty vain
>>
>>30021059
Well, I'm speaking from experience in the reserves. Most of the time, we have to wear helmets which builds up more heat and provides less air flow. I've tried several anti-fogging liquids, but they never work >:(
>>
>>30020748
by not getting into combat

do you live in somalia or something
>>
>>30020748
>How do i compensate for this?
Kill a man with good eyes.
Take his eyes.
Make them your eyes.

Alternatively get glasses you fucking nerd.
>>
>>30020748
keep a secondary pair in a hard case, look into the material of the lens ,get something that resists impact
>>
>>30021029
This. Military does PRK for their corrective procedures because you can take a jostle afterwards and not have the ocular media seep out and permanently ruin your eyes. Lasik is shitty outpatient baloney meant to sell fast to people who don't know any better.

Really, if you exist in the real world where objects have a tendency of hitting your head, there is literally no reason to consider Lasik.
>>
>>30021046
Eye contacts can trap gases between the lens and cornea, which is why they are verboten in laboratories and combat.

>>30021046

someone should make something for glasses similar to the pinlock visor inserts that you get for motorbike helmets

you could even make them quickly replacable with different insert tints for different conditions like pinlock "its sunny I'll stick in the dark sunglasses insert" "the fog is setting and it's getting dark i'll switch to the orange high contrast low light insert"

Kek. Yeah, OP, don't forget to pack enough ammo.
>>
You can get safety-rated prescription glasses, my internship just bought me a pair free of charge. Some of them look like safety glasses, and some look like regular glasses with detachable side shields.

I'd post a pic but mine haven't been delivered yet. But they look normal enough to wear out in public.
>>
>>30021327
So you'd take the PRK over the Lasik? Any particular reason or is that from personal experience?

I'm going for a consultation on Wednesday and I'm applying for the Army, so I'm interested in why you'd say that. Cheers in advance.
>>
Fuck i just realized it's called nearsightedness
>>
Are you okay with the fact you can't see an enemy or your life depends on two thin pieces of glass in a hostile environment?

Lasik leaves a flap in the cornea that never really heals, so it can bust loose if, for example, you get punched in the eye. PRK just shaves a little thickness off the surface of the cornea but leaves it intact--the downside is that it takes a lot longer to heal (IIRC, it's around a week until you can function on your own, six months until your vision stabilizes.). I don't think LASIK nowadays is quite as bad as >>30021327 says--the military now allows some kinds of LASIK, I believe, and jostling by itself is generally not enough to knock the flap loose, you need something to actually hit your eye--but I'd choose PRK too.
>>
>>30021022

No, it wouldn't. You're generally too focused on doing military shit for the glasses jokes to merit more than a second of attention
>>
Funny story about not having enough back up pairs of glasses. I was inna field without access to a large base for weeks at a time and someone stepped on my glasses in the tent. The only back up pair I had were sunglasses. I wore those for a week even at night.
>>
>>30023767
Two close friends of mine got PRK.

A friend in the Marines got it done when he served, it was covered by taxpayers lIke us. PRK is the only corrective eye surgery they allow for active duty for good reasons.

Another friend of mine, a civvy, asked his optometrist about corrective surgery, and expressed an interest in getting back into martial arts. The doc told him to go with PRK because it heals stronger (but slower) than Lasik. Lasik is known to fail under head trauma and it results in permanent, irreparable blindness. The cut ruptures and the stuff that keeps your eye eye-shaped oozes out of the torn incision, and opens the eye (which is devoid of antibodies) to infection.

So far he is pleased with the results, got it done early this year, but it was several weeks of recovery.

Lasik is fucking dumb. I'm going PRK if and when I feel like ditching glasses, which I only really need for distance.

Just because they say you can't do it doesn't mean you really can't do it. Once you get in the door wearing glasses, you can get away with wearing contacts if you're semi-resourceful.

I can personally recommend a set of revision sawflys with the insert.
It looks fine when you're wearing it and if the outer lens gets scuffed you can just replace them for like $20.

But I would literally rather die than wear glasses.

Not because I care about the way they look, but because it drives me batshit insane to have something touching my nose.

>Won't they fall off?

No, when you get proper glasses they're tight on your face you autist.

>I don't know how i feel about autismo strap glasses

There are many types you autist, find a style that suits you, be in semmi rimless, rimless, full framed problem glasses or other.

I mean fuck you can even get ones with transitioning lenses so when you're out in the sunlight the lenses darken to protect you from glare.

your question is almost as short sighted as you are.

If you are in a situation where a shockwave could rupture your eyeballs you're probably going to die anyways. I don't think it's a big deal.

Strap glasses are fine. If you're that self conscious, wear contacts/normal glasses in the day, and strap glasses at night/at home/habbening
