Hornady is not absolutely not a shit. Critical Duty is better though.

Nice job op, I'm proud of you
>>
>>30004073
Not that anon but I carry federal HST's or remington golden sabers.

HST for main carry and golden saber +p for the reload.

Just my recommendations, others may vary.
>>
Welcome to the fold brother/sister!
>>
Nice choice OP, have fun!
>>30004328
How are the golden sabers? I've been wanting to give them a try.
>>
>>30003953
Good pick on the gun! Get out there and practice!

Critical Defense is okay-ish. I've never had a functional problem with it, it feeds well, goes bang. However, it's on the lighter end of carry loads and that makes it a little vulnerable to losses in effectiveness caused by barriers. It does not do well on heavy bone, think denim/leather, etc. For that reason most people would go with 124gr or 147gr loads. However, it's still a bullet and nothing to sneeze at.

Whatever your chosen carry/defense load is, make sure you try out a reasonable number of rounds to make sure your gun likes it, that you know what it shoots like, etc. And rotate the rounds, a mag full sitting IWB or in a drawer gets exposed to a lot of gunk, sweat, and the stuff sitting out should be disposed of downrange occasionally.
>>
>>30004362
Golden sabers are really good, i use them as a backup to the HST's. They tend to give a bit more penetration through harder targets. Would highly recommend both carry loads.
>>
>>30003953
Are you gonna get a sand dune skin for it?

Muh
nigga

You made a good choice Looks like its the carry version too.

Did you go with 9mm or what?

But yeah, ditch the Critical Defense.
>>
>>30004362
I use the .38spl+p sabers in my SP101, good round. Never had a problem with them.

I fully endorse all that this poster has stated.

Welcome to the /k/lub OP.

Federal Hydra-Shok JHP 147gr 9mm works just fine, as pictured in my P320
>>
>>30003953
>>30004678
Seems everybody gets the carry model.

Makes sense to me. The full P320 is huge, which is why I got the carry. I just can't imagine myself CCing the full P320.
>>
Is 115gr that shitty of defensive ammo??
>>
>>30004535
They had that for 100$ more than this one.

>>30004549
yeah its the 9mm
the gun store clerk handed it to me first, i didnt object.

Did I get burned on the price of the ammo?
>>
>>30004328
These are both solid choices as are Gold Dots.

Everything Hornady underperforms in comparison. Sorry, but it's true--watched a LOT of gel tests to find that out. It'll work, sure, but not as well.

The biggest thing you need to do is run 50 or so rounds of whatever ammo you pick through your gun and make sure it feeds right. I found out that my XD-S didn't like Gold Dots when it had 2 FTFs in 27 test rounds. Imagine finding that out when you needed it to save your life. When I just tested HSTs in a Glock I was deliberately limpwristing some of the shots, one-handing it, and so on. No hiccups in 50 rounds, okay I'll use it. (Better to do 100 rounds of it but shit's expensive and hard to get...)

But make sure it works in your gun. Not your model of gun, YOUR gun.
>>
>>30004772
When there are options like 124gr and 147gr +p's out there, yeah 115gr is getting left behind as defense ammo.
>>
>>30004879
So if I'm going to carry 124gr, should I shoot 124gr range ammo exclusively? I only shoot 115gr and have for five years.

>Seems everybody gets the carry model
Actually, mine is the Compact model
Only difference is that the grip is shorter, thus only allowing a 15rnd magazine. But since I wear mine IWB concealed, I didn't want printing from the bigger heel of a carry model.

But, the beauty of the P320 is that it really doesn't matter, I can just buy an exchange kit and change sizes anyways
>>
>>30004910
It really wouldn't matter what grains you practice with, in defensive training you wouldn't be but 10 or 15 feet away from your target. Point of impact isn't going to change noticeably at that distance. With 115gr or 124gr.
>>
>>30004915
I just realized in a large wave of shame that mine was the compact as well. The gunstore online shop I ordered mine from said it was the carry but listed it as 15+1, so it really was the compact.

But like you said, I can just get the longer grip + magazines if I want to carry the larger one. I won't because this feels perfect in my hand.
>>
>>30004910
You won't notice the difference in feel or point of impact. Practice cheaply.
>>
>>30005015
So 115 for range and 124 for carry? I'm making my P226 my dedicated HD gun, should I stick with 124 and not bother with 147?
>>
>>30005041
I do 115 for range, 124 or 147 for carry. There's a list floating around of FBI-approved loads and they prefer 147 non+P for some brands, 124+P for others, hell they even have one or two 115 loads that are supposed to be really good. It's more about the exact round and how it acts out of a particular barrel length, you can't speak in generalities if you want maximum performance. I'll see if I can find the link.
>>
>>30005006
>I just realized in a large wave of shame that mine was the compact as well. The gunstore online shop I ordered mine from said it was the carry but listed it as 15+1, so it really was the compact.

critical defense is a bit underloaded to keep muzzle flash low in a defensive situation, critical duty is full test shit but there may be a risk of overpenetration.

critical duty for winter (get through bulky clothes) and speer gold dots for summer is what I use

Eh, you did pretty bad then. Need to do more research before buying a gun.

BUT

BUT

BUT

Now, you have absolutely no reason to get the superior sights, Sig X-Rays. I would be hard pressed to get new tritiums over fresh siglites.

How much did you pay for it anyways?

I live in a place with 90 degree weather all year round. I should be good with gold dots right?

560 dollars.

It was my first gun purchase anyways. I did plenty (weeks worth of floundering between the FNS-9 and the P320) of research, but the sights totally skipped my mind.

I guess I'm lucky my P238 has night sights, because I didn't even think about that either when I was purchasing it.
>>
>>30005417
Cool, your eyes work differently. Go shill your heiny sight bullshit elsewhere retard.
>>
>>30005386

yeah, you should be fine. I only use critical duty in the winter because of an FBI case study where .40 cal hollow points penetrated no more than 1 inch into some dude because he was wearing a down jacket. pretty extraordinary.

What makes the P320 better than the SP2022?

>>
>>30005348
You did fine, don't worry about the sights. They will suffice, and you CAN change them down the line if you feel you really want them. I'm plenty comfortable without night sights myself, just get yourself a half-decent light for HD use--grab a TLR-1, or TLR-3 if you're pressed for cash, you'll be all set.

I read some time ago that while gel is used for testing, it doesnt account for bones which the bullet might have to penetrate, is that correct or am I being had by a fudd?
>>
>>30003953
That was my first gun as well.
>>
>>30008597
Depends on what you want it for. I have the compact, feels great in my hand. Only difference between it and the carry is 15 rather than 17 in the mag.
>>
>>30010399

It absolutely doesn't account for bones, for pistol calibers take a tested bullet that has 12-18 inch penetration with good expansion. That's why I use .45 +P, since the much heavier bullet traveling at moderate speeds will do better through bones/thick jackets than a 9mm.
>>
>>30003953

Hey guys check out my GUN! Hahahaha look at meeee!!! Complement me. Now.
>>
>>30010399
>>30010956
It DOES account for bones, that's what the 12-18" penetration test MEANS. 12-18" through gel equates to punching through the rib cage and coming to rest in the vital organs.

>>30010956 is a fucking idiot for that alone, but spouting "hurr .45 stronk" bullshit is absolute meme-tier, when there's basically no difference between pistol caliber rounds: they're all anemic.

no, the gel is of a similar density to your soft body tissue and, being of homogeneous consistency, the gel cannot account for the average strength of bone.
