Thinking of buying a Marlin 60 SN for a truck gun and building a hidden storage area in my truck. What's your truck gun?

Any long gun you actually would intend to use for self-defense in a vehicle needs a folding stock. Imagine for two seconds swinging that bad boy around and you'll reconsider this idea.
A handgun would be more effective for your purposes and I'm sure you can find an inexpensive full-size for $150 more. Maybe one of those turk shit nines.

Yes anon. A .22 is one of the most practical truck guns. You can plink with them in areas that centerfires are impractical and do some hunting or varmint removal.

Kind of. I had a savage or maybe it was an HR 20 gauge and .22. I like the snake charmer layout better and the savage doesn't look like it has a good mounting option for an optic.

Usually it's a rural America term for a handy gun to keep in the truck just in case you end up in the woods and want to shoot.
It can also mean a pistol for self defense but since he mentioned a .22 rifle and box, he meant the former. Talking centerfire pistols would be the later.
Kind of like keeping a fishing rod behind the seat in case a chance for some fishing becomes available.

OP i'd go with a Drago AK, there are under the seat safes that would fit one and a mag or two. I've seen some spiffy stocks that make them shoulderable if need be but collapse pretty well.

the 14" mossberg he posted is legal federally due to NFA-specific definitions, nearly all states have barrel length restrictions that don't use NFA language
so it's maybe a tie with something like a sig braced AR pistol for the worst possible "unexpected road trip" gun
