True. Have fired 300 Win Mag and the 375 H&H though. I wouldn't be able to shoot more than a box in a sitting of either without developing a shooters flinch, especially in a lighter rifle.
I can assume the 338 is even worse. That flat trajectory comes with a cost in recoil.

My grandpa had a pre 1964 Winchester Model 70 in .300wm that i got to shoot a few times as a teenager. I absolutely loved that rifle, it felt so good. I accidentally shot it without earpro once lol
