There is no problem with using surplus 1911 as the new military sidearm. Save a shit load of money. Stopping power problem fixed. Historical icon of freedom restored to its glory. Try to refute this.
>>
I don't want to refute it.
I want to support it.
>>
>>29978188
First off, it gives us all the problems that made us get rid of them.
They're Not as easy as most guns are nowadays to field strip and clean, they have meh capacity, most people shoot better with 9mm Luger, their ergonomics are meh (yes, I said it) compared to most modern guns, and on top of all of this, you'd need to retrain people for them, purchase new .45 ACP, and you'd need to refurbish them all so that they could actually hit something unlike most of them in their current condition.

I'd like to clarify though, it's a nice thought and I'd like to see it happen, I just find these things to be a problem with that idea.

I mean, maybe a 1911 in 9mm with DA/SA, sure, but our surplus ones are in meh condition mostly.
Have a sexy coonan in .357.
>>
What surplus? Is the government sitting on a stockpile of 1911s from God knows when?
>>
>>29980150
They are.
>>
Horrible idea, they should just sell em all on the market so I can get one cheap.
>>
>>29980158
i support this idea
>>
>>29980158
They are. The CMP has some, And they're not cheap. they're around $1,000 last i heard, and I would assume lower grades (read: ones in shit condition) are around $7-800.
>>
>>29980158
They do, and they're expensive as fuck.

Damn, accidentally posted on that a second time.
As an apology, have a nice Luger (I've only got the one 1911 pic)
>>
>>29980181
but if you buy a shit condition 1911 you can refurbish it, do a bit of custom wofk and BAM you now have a $5000 tier 1911 for a fraction of what you would pay for a Cabot or a nighthawk.
>>
>>29980181
Why? Even Garands are cheaper.
>>
>>29980239
>Milsurp 1911 + refurbishment = 5k Custom-tier 1911

No.
>>
>>29980239
If you buy a shit condition 1911 for $1,000, and you refurbish it for $500, and you manage to sell it for $2000 (which is what it'll sell for if you're an amateur) and you only make $500, you're a fucking moron.

You'd need a new barrel, and you'd have to fuck with the rails heavily.
Minimum. That's not including any other busted parts.
>>
>>29980253
Because the government is the government. They don't actually WANT us to have them, they just need to be able to say they tried.
>>
>>29978188

I've got 2 words for you;

Magazine capacity.

>bredduh m9 holds 15+1
>1911 holds 7+1
I'd rather have 16 rounds vs 8 rounds if I'm going into combat. The only acceptable compromise would be a glock 21 since it holds 13 rounds of .45 ACP

The grip is also the size of two fat ladies fucking. glawks are too big to be a viable option, especially one tryharding to fit 13 rounds of .45.

Being primarily an officer weapon, and being officers come in female flavor. any glock is a terrible plan for the military.

>low capacity
>Sao
>grip safety
>shit ergos

There's a LOT of reasons why.

If they wanted a 45 that isn't shit they should get pic related or a modern m&p
>>
>>29980319

>magazine capacity

Nobody ever uses their service pistol this day in age. Officers all carry rifles and operators use whatever the fuck they want anyway.
>>
>>29982266
>shit ergos
>>
>>29978188
Single stack 9mm glock.
>>
>>29982266
Good think you opted for the rear sight protector. Who knows how many more times you're going to drop that
>>
>>29978553
>their ergonomics are meh (yes, I said it)
I can agree with you on all the other point except this.
>>
>>29980150
Yup. They still keep old-ass M16A1 in the armory
>>
I can live with 1911 ergos, but I have never once fired a double-stacked 1911s and liked any of it.

There are better .45 acp out there. Hell USP .45 would be a better choice

>>29982325
You have never been in the military
>>
>>29980273
>>29980256
Id just do what I have already done to my1911
>strip it out down to the frame
>de-burr
>weld and/or grind dkwn the rails to custom to the slide
>add wilson combat guts
>cut the slide for Novak sights
>storm lake barrel
>cerekote or TiN it all
>VZ grips
its really not hard to rebuild/refurbish a 1911
>>
for the record, i think the next handgun for the US Military will be a striker of some sort. G19, M&P, or P320.

>>29980464

or you could get a 9mm Glock

>>29982325

i wish i could fit a rifle in the cockpit...

>>29982525

agreed here.

>>29982738

not the biggest hands in the world, but i remember being able to work a Para i tried out pretty easily. single stack 1911s are, of course, piss easy to use.
>>
>>29982525
It's honestly most likely a problem with the blackstrap on my friends gun, but it digs into my hand hard enough that whenever I shoot it it hurts like hell on the webbing of my hand.

I'm not amazed with the Ergos to begin with but that brings it to an all new low in my opinion. And again, I'd like to clarify that it's an opinion.
>>29982761
It's not hard or expensive but I sure as hell wouldn't pay $3,000, much less $5,000 for a slap dash job like that.

So not a 1911. And as a guy that likes DA/SA why they fuck would they specify DA/SA?
