Post odd weapons.

This here is the Schwarzlose Model 1908, one of the only blow-forward pistols ever manufactured. It was used by various people in the German Empire - police and the like - but didn't have much of a storied career before it became apparent there were much better ways of doing things.

An earlier Schwarzlose, the M1898 semi-automatic. This one is much more sensible than the M1908, being chambered in 7.62mm Mauser and using a short-recoil rotating bolt. A single spring performed the duties of primary recoil spring, striker spring, trigger spring, and extractor spring. However, Schwarzlose was not able to keep up with Borchardt or Mauser's economies of scale and this ingenious design was sidelined. Nevertheless, based Ian called it the best pre-1900 pistol he has encountered.

Here's the video. It's real. They both basically cum when they fire the damn thing, and who can blame them.

https://youtu.be/_mWeNNiG9YU?t=19m

Don't see how they could fake it - you don't see her arms pull back or anthing to simulate recoil.

???

I know people don't like him because he's a richfag but I'd have a shit eating grin like that if I got to fire C96s.

A graphic of the Dreyse Needle Gun, the first breechloading, bolt-operated rifle. At the Battle of Konnigratz, Prussian troops with Needle Guns were able to fire 15 rounds a minute to the Austrians' three, resulting in a bloodbath that permanently ended the Austrians' hope of controlling German unification. The Prussians commemorated the battle with the famous march that bears its name:

Nope, you've got them the wrong way round. That's why the Dreyse had the really long firing pin (the "needle"), which was prone to breakages - which is why the French initially rejected the Dreyse design and developed the much better Chassepot.

>Why were there not more of these? Seem like a perfect way for flintlock-era armies to improve ROF.

Almost always cost. History is RIFE with effective and even reliable breechloaders as early as the Revolutionary War era, but they were just too goddmaned expensive to arm entire armies with. Hell, in the Civil War one or two entire units were armed with either Henry repeating rifles or the Colt repeater (picture related) depending on the side; but they just couldn't afford to equip the entire army with'em. Elite cavalry units or special infantry got priority for such weapons.

Even WWII - why did so many armies fight with fucking bolt-actions when every side had developed at least a solid working prototype of a semi-auto rifle already? Again, cost - everyone had a billion bolt-action battle rifles already in the inventory from WWI and they just couldn't afford to throw those away. America re-armed because they were stupid rich.

I would probably murder someone for a clean original Root carbine.

There had been prototype semi-automatics many years prior, too. Indeed there was even a semi-auto black powder pistol designed sometime in the 1870s.

Most wars won of any country in the world and America's oldest ally. They saw the worst of combat in WWI and initial the worst in WWII (before they surrendered)

And you know what, to this fucking day they feel like shit about surrendering, even though they had barely rebuilt after WWI and had no way to combat the German blitzkrieg. It was either fight and be slaughtered or surrender. The French surrender was logical and saved lives.

>AM 180, the 1800 rpm 22lr smg,
>one of the first, if not the first to mount a laser to aim on a gun

they are fucking crazy.
btw I think the laser ignition replaces firearms of regular guns, and works on normal primers
>>
>>29936327
airguns are leading the way here, electronic triggers and precision triggers/valves are getting to be incredibly good.
>>
>>29937003
its kinda strange that it havent moved on to firearms.
with all the benchrest and target people that dont need military reliability, electronic ignition will be a huge advantage
>>
>>29936999
I've been wondering if you could set up a laser on the breech face to assist in boresighting between shots, mostly for my little crosman 2250 but the idea could be excellent for electronic turrets and mounted guns.
>>
>>29933885
I've been more and more interested in rotating bolt designs for pistols.

Couldn't we create very powerful loads with rifle-tier rounds for use in pistols using a rotating bolt design? Currently, we use massive slides to deal with the large pressure of rounds, or just have a revolver with a sufficiently thick barrel.

I think it's because recoil is literally non-existant in precision airguns, whereas even .22lrs experience some shift due to recoil.
>>
>>29935264
Lets not forget things such as the wheel lock, which existed as early as the 1600s yet basically no army used them because they were just too expensive, despite the fact they were better in almost every way.
>>
>>29937073
yeah, but its cutting down the ignition time considerably so pulling the trigger will shift the poi less.
and in long range shooting the recoil isnt a issue.

it might have something to do with making it safe in a semiautomatic. would be the easiest thing to convert to full auto.
