Why does it seem everyone in the military (Mostly Army and Marines) who arent in a combat MOS constantly feel the need to show they are just as important/badass as a combat MOS?

>MP's are basically fucking infantry!!
>If it wasnt for me being an armorer the 0311's would be fucked!!
>at least we dont have to fucking march all day with a heavy ruck!!

Not only this but they are also the first ones to mention being in the military, or bringing up the fact that "I served"

>I am/was not in the military by the way.
>>
>>29925586
Feeling important is like a basic human need
>>
>>29925586

the same reason you made this thread, OP: they're fags
>>
>>29925586
But MPs really are the same as infantry. We go out and patrol just like infantry
>>
>>29925586
Never had a problem with pogs. Basically follow the golden rule.

Treat them with respect and they hook you up. Supply guys gave us extra gear because they knew we were in the suck and felt bad for us. Show up at 9:45 and chow hall lady gives extra food with a smile. Tell ammo bro you need extra, he makes it happen.

We are all volunteers doing a job. Act respectfully and you open a lot of doors. Basic commen sense shit.

>who arent in a combat MOS constantly feel the need to show they are just as important/badass as a combat MOS?

Because the non combat arms guys realize that while their job was important, it wasn't as important, dangerous, honorable, note worthy, admirable as going out and getting blown up, shot at, shooting back, etc. Being a cook isn't exactly like being in "Band of Brothers"
Don't get me wrong, their job is important, but don't let them fool you, for the most part they had it very easy compared to us in combat arms running missions, doing guard, etc

I used to try and share my experiances with people, let it be known I'm a veteran etc, but I've learned to just avoid talking about Iraq or letting people know I'm a veteran in public life, and I've noticed that other combat vets tend to do the same thing. I don't mind telling you faggots, but IRL I'd rather avoid it so I don't get all the stupid face to face questions or the "thanks for your service" bullshit, not to mention most veterans I have met are the type in OP, cringe worthy cooks, radio guys, truck drivers, fuelers etc that constantly try to equate themselves to Infantry.
>was it hot?
>did you shoot at anyone?
>how much action did you see?
>how many guys did you lose?
>have you seen *insert faggy movie about Iraq like "American Sniper"*? Is that what it was really like?

Serving is more than getting shot at.

If you could only qualify to pull triggers or if you actually signed up to get blown up by IED's, good for you. Stop acting like you're gods gift to the military. I honestly feel bad for the infantry because that's all they have. No one on the outside cares you were infantry because there are no skills for killing people on the outside apart from professional military companies--and even then they prefer to recruit from people who do actual dangerous stuff like Rangers and Special Forces. They don't care about fat shit mech infantry that ride around in Strykers and totally know someone who was hit by an IED once. Every one knows the real work is done by aircraft and the airstrikes are called in by people who are not infantry.. Our infantry isn't even fighting anything right now.

I have a friend who turned down a full scholotship, scored 95 on the asvab and went into infantry
>>
>>29925898
B-but I went grunt with a 96 asvab and aren't stupid I swear to Jesus.

For real tho I've been out 3 years and have a 3.3 GPA. I don't claim to be a genius I just refuse generalizations that categorize me as dumb. Half the time it's Army cunys that say it that don't realize Marines usually have stricter standards.

Yeah but we were hated by everything. The only people who liked being mp's were closet serial killers, assholes who did it for the bonus, or the ones who lucked out in the air force.

>>29926756
You guys are basically infantry!

Why does it "seem like that" to you if you're never experienced it? You're just making up what you think people say.

Why does it seem everyone in the military can't just do their service and shut the fuck up?
>>
>>29928597

Because they want everyone to thank them for their service.
>>
>>29925586

I got out last year, I was an IT Specialist. I fucking hated my job. I had to deal with retarded Combat Engineers all day and fix computers. If I could go back in time and do it all over, I would have went Infantry.

Most POGS suffer from wanting to feel special, they want to feel like they're important, and the majority of them aren't.

From an ex-POGS point of view, I admire your job.

Bill Mauldin, the cartoonist who did the Willie and Joe cartoons during WWII, wrote a book during the war called "Up Front."

Mauldin was a reporter for Stars and Stripes, went practically everywhere in Europe, told it the way he saw it from the G.I.'s perspective and clashed with no less an authority figure than George Patton.

Mauldin was of the opinion that the people who would yell the loudest about veterans benefits and talk about their exploits the most after the war would be those who had done the least during the actual war.

I've known a few guys that did that exact same thing and have regretted it ever since.

One of the guys I work with now has a son who did that too. Smart as hell but he wanted to be an infantryman for four years and go do something else. Now, I was a 12B myself, so I told this guy to smack some sense into his son and do something with some value to it. The kid didn't bite, and now his dad is telling me that he's fucking miserable.

Guess it's getting better though. His 1SG was being so intentionally divisive he got his ass shit canned in theater. Which, frankly, is impressive. That had to have been some high tier shitbaggery to catch the attention of an infantry BDE command.

Former grunt here as well, sometimes you need the right motivation for school and it isn't there right away. I did a few classes, took a couple semesters off and just worked. Tried being part of a start up company that flopped because the owner sucked at business and the concept was too niche. It made me kind of angry for the wasted time. Went back to community college with some fire in my belly and decided to try a degree in programming just to see if I could meet the challenge. It's been tough and stressful, but I just stayed too stubborn to give up. Just today I got offered pay for an internship I applied for with the understanding of it being unpaid. This place has a good chance to lead to a well paid full time job at the end of summer.

My advice to you anon is that maybe you just need to get pissed off about your situation to start using that GI Bill. Also stop chasing a sliver of that adrenaline and guns lifestyle and just get yourself looking good on the job market. You can get your infantry feels by collecting guns, going hiking, go skydiving if you need an adrenaline pump. Best of luck to you man.
>>
>>29934657
>skydiving

My buddy who was infantry says skydiving is the cloest thing he can get to the adrenaline rush he got in combat. He also goes skydiving once a month chasing the feel even though he's been out 3 years.
