Looking for opinions /k/. I want to start a new project: collect Mauser from as many countries as possible. Right now, have pic related, yugo m24/47, m48, and nazi k98k (sorry I thought I had a pic of just the mausers in my phone)
Right now I'm looking at a nice Turkish Mauser from 1940. Here's the issue: I know that the m48 is about to go the way of the k31. If you only had the cash for one at the moment, would you pick up a second m48 or the Turk?
Feel free to post some Mauser porn
>>
>>29917930
M48, get a BO if you can. Damn Turk's seem to be plentiful everywhere else but here in Cali it seems.
>>
>>29917930
Get a south American mauser if you can also. The ones made by DWM are top tier quality.
>>
get the m48 over the turk
I have a turk and wish I woulda spent the extra $$
on a yugo, once I get back from germany I will be getting a yugo and also a swede
>>
>>29918236
I was actually bidding on a swede today lol. Once it went over 400 I had to let it go
>>
>>29918281
they are worth 600 to me, I think they are the best mauser
>>
>>29918167
What's a BO?
>>
M48 for sure. I've got one, they are very smooth and svelte. Funny enough speaking of K-31s, when I bought mine it was a toss up between a nice 31 and the yugo. Went with the M48 because it was one of the nicest I had ever seen. Still in the cosmo, had been sold around at a few shops before though and somebody had put on a gorgeous sling too.
Swedes are really nice and the south american ones really interesting too.
>>
>>29918312
Unmarked variant, IIRC
>>
>>29918342
I got a k31 for like 320 and thought it was a little high. Three months later, they're going for 500.
>>
>>29918289
There's one for 340, with the Carl Gustav "C" guy says the bolt and receiver are matching numbers. Should I jump on it, considering that I already have the m48?
>>
Ive been trying to find a chiang kai shek mauser but when they come up for sale on GB, theyre always beat to shit and pricey
>>
>>29918582
I know the feeling. If you look at my collection I try to get my guns in a good condition, but the Siamese mausers ar always beat up. It must be a Chinese thing tho, because the Chinese mosins and SKS always look like the stocks where used to drive railroad spikes.
>>
Speaking of mausers, my fucking bayonet falls off my K98 after 4-5 shots. Lug looks fine, baynet looks and seems to function fine. Anyone else ever get this?
>>
>>29918522
Gotta admit I still kinda regret not jumping on the K-31, it was one of many nice ones I've come close to snagging but passed up over the years. I still plan on one someday, but like you said the price is gonna hurt.
>>29918654
Yeah I wish the chinks would ship stuff that wasn't rotting/falling apart so often. I do enjoy their commercial models though, the stuff was pretty much completely geared to target our surplus market.
>>
>>29918707
Does the spring mg in the butt of the bayonet feel weak or gummy? I would think that the issue would lay in the release button (sorry. Don't know the technical name) of the bayonet
>>
>>29917930
German made Turk rifles are good. I've heard some people have had trouble with the K.Kale ones.

I'd recommend a Swedish Mauser though.

I wish I had desert to go shooting. The woods is NC limits you to 200 yard ranges :/
Pic of my 48. Came with sling, pouch and bayonet for 320. Nottooshabby/10

Is your front hood loose or off centered in any way? Mine is a leaning to the left. Also, fun fact. The combined heat from extended firing coupled with the sun in great for bleeding the stock of cosmoline as well as loosening up sticky parts.

No, it's in great shape apart from some dings in the butt plate. Compared to my 47, it's like a different country made them. Not quite as nice as the k98k, but that was more than double the cost.
For Cosmo removal in the winter, I put the oven on 150 degrees, open the door , put a towel on the open door, and pull out a rack. Then I set the disassembled rifle and stock on the rack
>>
>>29917930
well the m48s tend to be nicer condition, but it's not "going the way of the k31". the turk mausers have been around for years and years, and they will always be around. i would just shop as normal, and whatever you come across next, if its a nice example just get it. neither gun will lose value as time goes on
>>
>>29919074
Mine has a cracked stock, which was glued and pinned sometime prior to my purchase. on the bright side, i got it for $250 in the great state of feinstein.
>>
>>29919074
I'm more worried about them gaining value lol. Milsurp in general seems to have gotten more expensive in the last 18 months
>>
Ive got an m48, and a brazilian 08/34.30
>>
>>29919128
Not an m48, its a 24/47

I like my 47, but the wood was on the rough side. I hit it with some 400 grit sand paper and a single coat of tung oil. It looks great but when I tried talking about on k a few days ago absolutely everyone shot on it for destroying historical rifle. Never
Ind that the manuals for the militaries all recommended at least an annual coat of linseed oil (or equivalent) as part of PCMS. So fuck you, day/k/are. Pic related is results.
>>
Not sure what is tougher, all Mauser variants or all mosin varients. Good luck OP. I'm trying all nuggets and it's tough.
>>
>>29919614
Were both gonna make it
>>
>>29919614
All the mosins are in one caliber, though. Mausers have a shit ton of different calibers, most obsolete.
>>
You need a Swede, /k/omrade.
>>
>>29919614
>all Mauser variants

Probably that. I mean, there's obscure nugget variants like Estonians and shit, but Mausers were fucking everywhere and by everyone, including the Pope.
>>
>>29919650
Not true. There are 8mm Mauser and 8x50r and .22lr trainers. And Bannerman. 30-06 conversions but those are commercially done so I don't really count them.
>>
>>29919650
There are nuggets that have been arsenal rechambered.

>>29918654
Siamese is Thai, not china. That's sino. A great number of Siamese mausers were bubba'd due to being in an obsolete caliber and their decent stocks sometimes bubba'd as well (people complain about sanding the stock and getting rashes due to the urushi finish fucking them up). I've seen some decent ones, as well as just the stocks.

In general rough condition Siamese stocks are due to the climate in which they were used and the shit they went through. They might not have seen many major conflicts, but they were used for training and border police. I have read that many have gone through rearsenal a few times, the ones that were converted to 8x52R Siamese all at least once.
>>
>>29919688
That's part of the appeal of gotta catch em all. Most of them also have crests on the receiver, which would make a cool display.
But as a project, you could spend the rest of your life trying to collect them all. And I'm okay with that :)
>>
>>29919659
I think you're right. Swede this month, Turk the next.
If there continues to be interest in night k, I'll post my progress from time to time
>>
>>29919650
Well I have two webleys in .455, so commonality isn't a huge deal. I've got an AR 15 and some semi auto handguns. But I find more and more that I enjoy the old Milsurp stuff. Don't know if that makes me a fudd or not, but it's a hobby I've really been enjoying
