OK, OP, if you really care about your relative, you need to do this: Go out into a field, bring water. Set up a mat, or just on the grass. Have them pepper spray you, then you need to grab them and wrestle them to the ground. Rape is optional. Pepper spray is actually increasingly less effective against assailants due to them giving themselves small amounts of the spray in order to build a tolerance. Most sprays dont even phase hardened criminals anymore. Pepper spray manufacturers have been trying to make their sprays more potent, but it doesn't look like its going to be a fast process.
Studies show that people who routinely eat spicy foods have had a slightly higher tolerance for pepper spray as well.
