of course, this one is a service grade H&R I picked up several years ago for $600.

go through the CMP. You will have to submit a packet. I'll look and see if I can find the instructions.

Print out the order form from the cmp's site. Fill it out and have it notarized at the base law office. Send the form in with a photocopy of your military ID (this is what qualifies you). Wait a few months and your garand will come in the mail to your personal address. I even got mine sent to the dorms on base

Get them while they're cheap! When the CMP sells out, expect at least a 25-50% jump in price. Same thing happened to both 1903's, 1917's and Carbines once the CMP gravy train cut off
>>
>>29852187
This. Mosin prices will continue to increase but I can't imagine they'll go anywhere past like 400 for a nothingspecial 91/30

I imagine Mosins will go the way of the Arisaka in the next couple decades. Interest will dwindle as ammo dries up and prices will level off somewhere around $250. I think Garand's have a pretty good chance of staying relevant since 30-06 is such a heavily used calibre and has been for over 100 years in the US.

there werent tens of millions of arisakas made. plus on top of surplus ammo, theres a decent amount of commercial ammo made.

>>
>>29852371
i know. id like to know the details of that deal, just for my own curiosity but i wish PPU sold it directly.
>>
So a ccw license will work as a proof?
>>
>>29852333
>import Arisaka w/ full Chysanthemum
noice
>>
>>29852293
I don't see Mosin ammo drying up any time soon. Sure surplus is just barely trickling in, but new production stuff is all over. The Arisaka isn't a good example because they were never brought into the country like Mosins or Carcanos were. The vast majority of Arisakas came in as bring backs, not by the crate for the commercial market. The rest were dumped into Tokyo bay along with literal tons of ammunition.
>>
>>29852402
Well, PPU runs uncommon ammo production only once a year. I guess for very low demand calibers just the brass would do, why waste space on the ammo line when other once a year cartridges like 7.5 swiss would sell better..
>>
Goddamnit I want to order it now, I have to wait until the 16th until I have money...
>>
How far do they check this Marksmanship Requirement? Could I get a friend to fill out the form ( http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/marksmanship.pdf ) as the RSO and they would take it?
Don't want to pay to go to a range (closest manned one is too far away) and I don't want to pay for a $100 CCW Class with constitutional carry on the docket for my state
>>
>>29852293
depends on what happens with import bans and the war in the ukraine. if we go through a long enough dry spell the price might drop on 91/30s because nobody wants to pay for the ammo. if more ammo comes in, id expect the price of the rifles to keep going up until theyre maybe slightly cheaper than new production .308s.
>>
of fucking course yes
>>
>>29852187
Robert, pls stop hoarding those
>>
>>29852554
They don't check. You could just have a friend fill it out.

It's not like there is a database of RSOs they can check with.

>>
>>29854510
As far as I understand, it's not so much something you join as something you take part in.

To get a rifle from the CMP, you have to meet a few requirements, like being a member of a CMP approved gun club, and having proof of firearms training (sign off from an RSO, CCW license, or even C&R license according to CMP's site).

And then it becomes more like a gun store.
>>
>>29854568
I want something like that here. Our system is a bit different but it's all geared towards arming enough reservists who can be trusted so that even in a case of unlikely totally unexpected surprise attack and invasion we have enough men armed supporting their local communities while the rest of reserves are being armed and geared.

All your weapons however are bought using your own money. It will still be a year for me to get my license for a reservist rifle. A reservist rifle is a semiauto with larger magazine capacity than what is allowed in hunting rifles. Like Valmet RKs, Norincos, Russian made AKs and even ARs and such.Since your using your own money you get to choose your rifle and the caliber you prefer. Meaning that if you wish so you can go full /k/ommando ticktack -operator gearqueer.
>>
>>29854681
Yeah, it really sounds like the Finnish program has the exact mission statement and means of distribution (you buy the weapon with your own money) as the CMP, the only difference is that you don't join the CMP itself, just the approved gun club.

Also, you sons of bitches can get modern rifles through it? Count your fucking lucky stars, Finnanon, because the most advanced rifles we Americans get is the Garand. The CMP deals exclusively in milsurp, and I guess no one wants to even try converting all those M14s and M16s into semiauto only.

We get nothing "through" it but gear. All weapons are purchased from private shops or individuals. Sometimes you can get something cheap from the military but that's rare..

If you want to own an AK or an AR joining reservists or practical -club is mandatory in order to get you licence. Finland is already a Hillaryland you see actually so much that our military is starting to get pissed about us joining the EU that is constantly trying to push antigun laws that would seriously harm our reservists and make training them a practical impossibility due to financial cost of providing ever man their own rifle every time they wish to train and storage them afterwards.

It's far more practical to allow reservists own their own equipment than to store it for them. Even more practical if they will buy those weapons using their own money.

Fuck EU. Britbongs and Frenchies are going to take guns away from law-abiding citizen in order to stop terrorists. They created their own problems and can't seem to understand why.
>>
>>29851868
Its easy for us milfags. Im chair force too and i had mine fedexed to base housing
>>
>>29853445

Probably never if Hillary gets elected. They'll probably get melted down and sold to GM for scrap like the hundreds of thousands of Garands, Carbines, M14's and 1911's did back in the 1970's
>>
Got my 308 special grade (about as un-garand of a garand they make, I guess) after 3 month wait.

Looks decent. Haven't shot it yet.

Wood looks unfinished for the most part. It's like they did a quick wipe with a rag slightly moistened with BLO and called it good.

Does anyone else here feel the need to refinish (or complete the finishing process) on CMP's new stocks?
>>
>>29856085

>Does anyone else here feel the need to refinish (or complete the finishing process) on CMP's new stocks?

You DO need to finish them actually. They are stained with no oil on the new stocks. use a mix of 50/50 Tung oil and Mineral Spirits and scrub the mix into the stock. That stain can be very stubborn to penetrate through depending on how much was applied and how tight the grain of the wood is. If you want to be lazy, finish it with Danish oil.
>>

At least the military is on your side.
I think it's neat that Finland still has a tradition of a real civilian militia. AFAIK only Switzerland has something similar.

My best and favorite rifle is a Continuation War M39. When I took it apart to clean it I found a few evergreen needles under the barrel! Finland, IMO, is the only country that picked the right side during WWII. I'd love to visit someday.
>>
>>29854540
>>29853394

I've been tempted to Garand, but honestly the ones I've handled don't excite me much. The grip is too thick and not that comfortable and the action feels like it could take a finger off.

On the other hand I'd like to do high-power shooting competition and the gun is so important that I need to know how it works and how to fix and maintain one.

It's just hard to justify the price when I can get a nice k98 or Swiss rifle for less. I'd more excited by the FN M1949--I'm a big fan of Dieudonné Saive, who did most of the work on my favorite pistol of all time (the Hi-Power).
