Learned today that my Battle Buddy, Solomon, has heart arrhythmia. Which is pretty much a death sentence for an 11yo English Mastiff.

I'm not handling this well, /k/. I know this isn't my blog, but you guys are the tits, so I thought I should tell someone. Incoming image dump while a grown man weeps like a child.

Sorry about your buddy, komrade. Savor the time you have left with him.
Here's mine. Not sure what breed of dog she is.
>>
I feel for you man, my first dog lived to be 14 until we had to have him put down due to tumors/constant pain from arthritis. I punched a hole in the wall and wept like a bitch.
>>
He was happy, full of energy (as full as an 11yo dog can be anyway) eating well, perfect.

Then lost 30lbs in 8 weeks.

> this is him at 230lbs.

Leonburger owner here, with Large breed dogs they start to really seriously run into health issues after 7-8 years, and you're lucky that you got 11 good years out of him.

Its best to enjoy it and give him the best quality of life in the end, but you need to know when to end it. Been through 2 Great danes and I'm only a freshman in College.

This is my 3rd Mastiff. My 1st one had a heart attack on my front porch, I put her sister down because I couldn't leave her alone with kids and she was getting very hostile to everyone, and now this one. I just thought I maybe had another year, you know?

Sorry to hear about that OP. Always rough to have something happen to a beloved battle buddy.

This is my battle buddy. He's learned that if I put my gun in the holster then it means I'm going somewhere, and he waits by the door for me so he can go with.

Damn that's rough.

I remember the last battle buddy I lost I bawled like a baby. I'm starting to worry about this guy. He looks young in the pic, but he's getting old and it really shows a lot of days. Had him for 10+ years.
>>
>>29840172
No, my family raised me around a lot of animals and I learned when it's ok to let them go naturally and when you need to speed it up with a shot.

>>29840279
That's kinda how my first mastiff was. Came home from high school, said hi to her sister, bent down and petted her then realized she was dead when I opened the door and she didn't follow me in. Called my mom freaking out.

Of course Vets being Vets, he said that the meds could help squeeze out a couple extra months, maybe let him live to see 12, but that would be the extreme.

Had my boxer of 13 years die. Just randomly woke up and he was dead on the ground near my bed. Didn't cry, was pissed, kinda just accepted he's dead, called my mom who lost her shit, buried him and went to class. Now I read your guys responses and it makes me worried. I loved my dog but he was old and literally lived all over the world so he had a full life. Shit /k/

This is my last mastiff. My faggot neighbor shot him just because he was on his property..

He was superbly well socialized and very very very calm/gentle. He was never aggressive, never barked, just loved chillin.

Mastiffs are seriously the best dogs you can ever own. This bro was the coolest motherfucker on the planet, I loved him literally more than most of my family.

Still trying to figure out a way to burn my neighbors house down without getting caught

So when people have arrhythmia's it's usually pretty straightforward, they take some specific meds to counter the issue and have some life-style changes. But I haven't the foggiest idea about when dogs are concerned.

Is there a chance your battle bro could just take it easy for a while, get fat around the house and be a pleasant foot warmer?
>>
>>29840537
I had a boxer and just before he was a year old he got bloat and was put down.
>>
>>29840838
at 6yo, hell yes. at 11, not really. If his heart ever fell back out of rhythm he could easily die of shock, and there's no way for him to vocalize that he isn't feeling well, especially while im at work. so if the vet think meds will work and make him comfortable for his ride out, hell yes, hes on meds. if the vet says the meds will do more harm than good, i say my goodbyes, cry like a bitch, update /k/ and bury my dog.

My pup Stuka keeping things mildly /k/ related. She actually impressed me a couple weeks ago.
>Out at a family member's house in the boonies
>Outside visiting with a few old friends late that night
>Hear a few coyotes in the field across the street.
>Grab pistol to investigate, yotes couldn't have been more than 100 yds away.
>Dog is glued between my legs the entire time, intensely focused at the darkness ahead
>Barely even flinches when I fire a shot to scare the yotes off.
She is nearly 5 months old and has zero training beyond your basic "sit" and "come" stuff, apparently that shit just comes naturally.

When we lived in IN, Solomon was the biggest dog in a while. Lived on a farm, surrounded by woods and fields. ever hear anything weird or barking in the middle of the night, he would perk up, stand at attention at the door then once out would let out 1-3 (depending on the situation) chest tightening barks. Even inside with him outside, to see his hackles raised and hear that boom of a bark then the entire woods go silent. . . That's the dog I want with me when someone comes into my house. I've watched this hunk of muscle bound off the porch and make it to the corn line over 30 yards away in a blink and 3 lunges. I've always been impressed by this big teddy bear.

>Called her across the property line and shot her with a 12 gauge.
Even if the police won't act, that is serious grounds for a lawsuit that you have a good chance of winning. 'Course if you lived some place liberal, his ass would be in jail already. If only California had gun laws as good as their animal rights laws, it would be paradise.
