I've been looking around for a mauser (m48, but the actual model isn't a big deal at this point), and everywhere is sold out. Where can I find one?

Russian capture sold at a high price, all markings scrubbed and they restamped the Waffenamts and any other markings. They would put markings that were not on the original gun to make it seem more desirable.

The rifles themselves are working mausers that shoot fine, they are just advertised as something they are absolutely not. If you can get one cheap then go for it I guess.

Ill definitely look for that, ive emailed a few local gun shops asking if they had any mausers. All of their websites say they're out of stock though...
Here's a thought: where do the surplus guns come from? Some warehouse? Owned by who?

Technically speaking, they're pretty much always fine. There's not a whole lot to go wrong.
From any other non-functional perspective, they're pretty miserable. There are a lot of force-matched parts, markings have been scrubbed off, fake markings have been reapplied, etc.
As a collector, I wouldn't buy one at all. I've got some Turk and Russian Capture Mausers for when I want a beater gun, and both of those will go for less than a Mitchell's.
If I just wanted one to shoot and didn't care at all about historical relevance, *and* I found one for far less than their asking price, I may consider it.
