/k/ Ive just brought home my new m&p shield in 9mm.
Which ammo is best for my baby?
>>
>>29831287
RIP obviously.
>>
>>29831287
ayy, I got my shield yesterday.

>Which ammo is best for my baby?

As in for cc? I'm going to either buy 115gr gold dots or 124gr hst.
>>
124gr jhp, ranger t series
>>
>>29831298
Stop it.
>>
124gr HST
>>
>>29831287
Gold Dots or HST.

I carry 124gr HST. Then I do my own reloads of 124gr JHP that I load to be as close to HST as possible for range day practice on the cheap.
>>
>>29831308
>>29831345
124gr HST it is. Thanks team, you're the best!
>>
>>29831353
Thanks!

This is a good choice, along with Federal HST and Speer Gold Dot. Those are the three go-to rounds for defensive pistol ammo.
>>
>>29831370
Excellent!
>>
>>29831353
Really dumb ass question I'm >>29831308 is there a noticable difference in recoil from 115gr and 124gr? I don't think I've ever shot 124gr ammo.

I might go with gold dots because I use lawman ammo and it's a """"training equivalent""""" to gold dots. Then again, hst has those cannelure shits that may or may not prevent bullet setbacks but they don't make any 115gr hsts.
>>
>>29831287
Critical Defense 115gr, great out of shorter barreled 9mms
>>
>>29831380
There is a noticeable difference in plinking vs defensive ammo. The heavier the bullet, the more perceived recoil you will get, but you won't necessarily feel that much of a difference compared to differences in loading.
>>
>>29831341
Never!!
>mfw someone I respect actually came up to me with full on determination and confidence in the rounds for HD

ok so this is the perfect thread to ask this in, I'm not a gun person. I literally just got my first gun, a Ruger Mkiii because I've had a box of .22 forever. But I just realized ive had this ammo forever, like 20 years. So uhh, does it still work or is it dangerous?
>>
>>29831543
It should be fine as long as there isn't terrible corrosion.
>>
>>29831287
Missionary position, for the purposes of procreation.
>>
>>29831356
I concur. Great performance in small pistols. Many rounds that are fantastic in full sized guns do not expand right out of shorter barrels, and dramatically over penetrate
>>
>>29831543
It'll probably work fine. At worst, you might have only a round or two misfire - that is fail to discharge. There's no danger of it "blowing up," though.
Dont use it in a self defense situation though
>>
>>29831564
Ok so as long as it's not rusty looking it's fine?
>>
I practice with 122gr cast and keep it loaded with 124gr gold dots, both have shot very well for a small gun.
>>
>>29831287
Probably 9mm.
>>
>>29831543
As long as there isn't corrosion you're set.
>tfw still shooting some Remington golden bullets my dad got in the 70s
>>
>>29831287
>Which ammo is best for my baby?
Well being small and defenseless you could literally use any ammo on babies so might as well save a few pennies.

Ok, cool. Judging from this shitty picture, it looks clean right? I'm looking for green rust right?
>>
>>29831662
Aw yeah that's good, yeah just serious rust/corrosion and honestly, if you can scrape it off there shouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>29831287
LOL if you bought a shield NIB you got FUCKED UP THE ASS bro. Straight ass fucked.

When those things hit the market I couldn't count the guys coming to my shop asking for them. I sold a ton at >MSRP and, just like the mini 380s everyone couldn't get enough of a year earlier, I am buying the things back for LESS than the PROFIT I made on them on first sale.

It is like free guns. I have like 100 of them in used inventory and anything I get >$0.01 will be additional profit. And I've sold like 300 of them used since last summer.

People like you are why I have winter and summer rims and tires on both my F350 and my wife's LFA. And a house in the mountains.

I love you guys.
>>
>>29831399
Seconded. My Shield feeds it really well.
>>
>>29831705
Wtf are you on about m8
>>
>>29831705
So what double stack 40 S&W feed hand cannon would you suggest?
INB4 CZ Anything
>>
>>29831698
Ok, awesome. Thanks everyone.
>>
>>29831783
>So what double stack 40 S&W feed hand cannon would you suggest?

Not that windowlicker but the USP40 is pretty much the only .40 I'd actually be willing to own.
>>
>>29831705
I bought one NIB for $380 a couple years ago.
>Apex trigger and internals
>New sights
>Extra mag or two
>HST and critical defense depending on what's available

Fucking love that gun.

>>29831715
My favorite in order are
>HST
>Critical Defense
>Gold Dots
But it depends on what's available when it comes time to switch carry ammo.
One time everything was sold out locally but HydraShok, so glad I didn't need to buy anything right then.

I wouldn't deny H&K, however I just dont see this being easily concealed anywhere on my body unless its 30 below and im wearing the thickest coat available

>planned on getting an apex duty kit, some trijicon hds and maybe the apex trigger
>mfw putting it off because it's another ~$300 and I've already spent a bunch of money on other things for conceal carry
>>
>>29831287
Hmmm, I'm planning on getting a glawk 43 this thurs.

Is this a royal mistake? Or should I pull the trigger?
>>
>>29831827
Why do you even want .40?
>>
>>29831843
i would be happy with either.
>>
>>29831850
Thats not the point i was making. I love my shield because its a great CC.
You want to talk dream guns, yes HK is where it is at. I just cant justify the costs right now
>>
>>29831837
Let me explain the Apex trigger in greentext form

>At steel challenge match
>Man is shooting a bone stock Shield and kicking ass (seriously, it was cool to watch)
>ask him if it has the APEX parts since I can't see trigger in holster
>He says no, he wants the upgrade but it's too expensive
>Offer to let him try mine since it's in the car
>He dry fires it once and tries the reser, hands it back and immediately declared he's placing his order that night.

It really is that good. I use mine for 25-50-100yard shooting.
>>
>>29831911
100 yard shooting out of a 3 inch barrel?
How accurate? How tight?
>>
>>29831543
I just burned through a box of one hundred .22LR that had a price sticker on it for 99 cents.

Shit lasts, so long as it's not totally fuxxord.
>>
>>29831942
Patterning like a shotgun but I can keep them all on a qualification silhouette.

Mostly I do stuff like shooting clays on the berm.
>>
apex trigger is absolutely worth the price. its a great trigger- it should have come right from the factory.
factory trigger is usable, but i would describe it as being the bare minimum.
>>
>>29831911
I had this happen to me with the sig's srt trigger
>know how good it is but eh, don't feel like spending $40 on another part for my gun because the trigger is manageable
>try out some guy's srt trigger sig at the range
>order an srt trigger the next day

If I do buy the trigger and most likely will, I'll get some tritiums because you do need to remove the rear sights anyways.
>>
>>29831968
Not just the trigger, but the duty/carry kit or whatever it's called. You need them both for the full experience.
>>
>>29831968
Would you prefer a stock shield or glock trigger?
>>
>>29831973
Funny you should mention that, I have the SRT kit in my German 228 as well.

>TFW a retired 'special agent' LEO at the range commented on something being up with my SIG because it looked like I wasn't resetting the trigger.
>>
>>29831978
oh, i forgot theyre sold separately. i meant the whole trigger kit.
>>
You can hand load 8mm mauser rounds, right?
>>
>>29832019
Yeah, it really should sell in a kit with both, and a little cheaper.

>>29832011
>Guy who owns only one Glock and it's a Gen1 I bought for history reasons here
>So no fanboyism
The Glock has a far better stock trigger from what I've tried on the range, that said, you put an APEX kit in the Shield and it's absolutely the superior gun bar fucking none. And the cost of a Shield + Apex kit is close to a NIB G43 IIRC

I really want a nickle german p228, it was my first gun I ever shot in my life. Just for the fuck of it, how would a full apex compare to the srt?

Also a bit of an unrelated question, what's a good set of gunsmithing punches/hammer for ~$30-$40? I was looking at the lyman deluxe kit and I need a set to install an apex kit and maybe take apart my 226's slide and get around to cleaning it.
>>
>>29832065
>how would a full apex compare to the srt?
SRT only changes reset travel, Apex kit changes literally everything about the trigger pull.

>Flat metal trigger
>Reduced pre-travel
>Clean as FUCK break
>Reduced reset travel
>Very solid reset
>No flex
>Eliminates everything that made the stock trigger mushy
>Reduced pull weight by 1-2 pounds
>>
>>29832119
To specify, I mean the overrall trigger pull since sigs have good single action. I really want to get an apex, quite literally the reason why I went with the shield over the 43.
>>
>>29832145
It's a toss up between them. Apex shield has almost no pre travel so that's the main difference, it's also a slightly cleaner break than the SIG.
>>
>>29832255
I'm gonna make the plunge and get the entire kit. Fuck it, better to do it now then later when I have 300 rounds through with the stock trigger
>>
>>29832269
Just a heads up, my trigger was a little too fat for the hole in the frame, just use some 300 grit sandpapr to open it up slowly if that's the case

Any of the big brands defense rounds will likely do well. I reload 124gn Hornady XTPs for my shield. They run great. YMMV
