So, just watched season one of Okkupert.

Russians with the political support of the EU do a soft occupation of Norway, which turns violent.

The US has abandoned NATO and gone full isolationist, so Norway is all alone against Russia.

I thought it was going to be shit, but it was pretty damn great. And way more realistic than a lot of other "resistance fantasy" flicks.
>>
>>29810308
Thanks for the tip. If I can find it, i'll definitely watch it.
>>
>>29810469
I think Netflix has it in a lot of countries. Not sure about the US.

Just don't expect "Red Dawn; Europe edition". It's more of a political thriller than an action series.
>>
Is this the one where a Scandinavian guy goes to smoke behind the restaurant his wife owns, starts up a conversation with a Russian who is also smoking, and the Russian thinks the Scandinavian guy is a spy?

I think I've seen like 15 minutes of this.
>>
>>29810516
The Russian doesn't think he's a spy, he's just uncomfortable talking about his role in the Russian occupation while out drinking with friends.
>>
>>29810308
Faggots you mean Russian liberation!
>>
>>29810308
I am Russian and I approve this TV series.
>>29810516
Nothing wrong with that.
>>
Has the second season dropped? Cant wait to see the Norwegian go full guerilla warfare on the Russians.
>>
>>29810570
It's still in production.

I doubt it will be full guerilla warfare in the second season, as the Russkies haven't fully invaded Norway except for the most important administrative locations.
>>
>>29810570
I highly doubt that a Scandinavian studio could make a full-guerrilla war show full of combat, explosions and stuff, due to: 1. limited budget, 2. whiney liberals.
>>
>>29810722

Most of Europe loves hating Russia, what are you talking about?

If said country still has conscription because Russia then you can bet they will watch movies that hate on Russia.
>>
>>29810722
It actually had breddy good production value.

And most of the negative reception came not from whiney liberals, but people who somehow thought it would be realistic that Norway suddenly turned Red Dawn overnight.
>>
>>29810308
Too much politics.
>>
>>29810308
>The US has abandoned NATO and gone full isolationist

Why?

If it's a stupid reason I'm already put off.

Id it's not explained at all, that's even worse.
>>
>>29810308
I wish it was set in Poland or in Baltic so we could see real guerrilla warfare. Like back in 40s, Forest Brothers partisans in Baltics massacred entire villages populated by Russian colonists. Soviets manage to fully suppress them only in mid-50s.
>>
>>29810824

Why is that stupid? We did it before and, if anything, we're more likely to go back to that than back to world police.
>>
>>29810830
>Like back in 40s, Forest Brothers partisans in Baltics massacred entire villages populated by Russian colonists.

Nyet, Soviet Union was welcomed as liberators, everyone knows this.
>>
>>29810824
It's exactly what will happen if Trump became President. He also like Putin very much.
>>
>>29810308

As a Norwegian I was positively surprised by this series.
>>
>>29810740
It's pretty anti EU too.

The EU are the bad guys making Russia use force against Norway.

The US is neutral, and just goes "fuck you, got mine".
>>
>>29810837
People was dumb and think that common people will live better under communism. No one move a finger then soviets when soviets arrests anyone who speak about independence, even military didn't do shit. It's like today our goverment drag us into EU promising wealth, but instead half of the country permanently move to England.
>>
>>29810830
>Like back in 40s, Forest Brothers partisans in Baltics massacred entire villages populated by Russian colonists. Soviets manage to fully suppress them only in mid-50s.
What? Those countries were peaceful, ask any Russian, look in any History book. Russia was welcomed.
>>
People in Europe welcome this show as long as there's not too much violence, not too much heroism, and it features strong and independent women. If the show changes to a Scandinavian Red Dawn, I'm sure it will lose much of its audience. People will start complaining that the show has become too militaristic, too macho, women are reduced to the role of sidekicks and love interests, minorities are underrepresented, etc.
>>
>>29810912
it lost a lot of audience BECAUSE it didn't turn out to be Norwegian Red Dawn.

It really is a political thriller, not a fucking eighties splosionfest.
>>
>>29810308
What's /k/'s thoughts on last ship? I think its a pretty fun show but I feel skeptical for the 3rd season.
>>
>>29810836
IF ITS a stupid reason.

I'm not saying it is, just asking what the reason is.
>>
>>29810941
I've seen the series. It's pretty good over all, bUT it over emphasizes the role of energy in foreign policy. We leave NATO after achieving energy independence. We just don't need it any more.

Uh, that's patently bullshit. There was a lot of resentment that existed especially in the period immediately following the war because local guerrillas and anti-German movement leadership was heavily suppressed by the Soviets, leading many to be arrested and executed. Look up what happened to karel janoušek, Witold Pilecki, the leaders of the Polish Home Army, etc. Theres a reason there's a lot of resentment towards the memory of Russian occupation in Eastern Europe.

The whole period up until WW1 was one of some pretty heavy duty expansionism though, that's when we still had the Philippines and other such territories after we fought with Spain. One could argue that we benefited from isolationism as a result of such expansion.

The plot was something along: norway refuses to supply oil because they have come up with some new form of energy that they want everyone to use instead, norwegian oil is vital to EU so they do some shady deals with russia to get russia to invade norways oilfields and capital so EU economy doesnt get fucked..

It would have been slightly more believable if France had done the invading part, or some other EU country with an actual military, but russia is fine too.

I've only watched like 2 episodes, seems entertaining but I dont have the time for it now.

Perhaps Russian oil and gas simply cannot ever meet both domestic Russian demand and EU demand, and so Russia wants to stop the EU being forced to build its way out of using oil and gas, so it continues to have a market to sell into? Alternativly, it is simply looking for closer diplomatic and economic ties to the EU and undertakes the whole things as a sort of loss leader to further its longer range political ambitions.

You are not in the EU, are you?

The EU is all about celebrating their own impotence. Just look back at the sorry affair of the Balkans war. EU was basically about empty threats that were later amped up with threats of more threats while allowing the massacre of Srebrenica.

EU will basically allow anything as long as leadership in Brussels can remain comfy. Norway is an important source of raw materials such as oil, gas, electricity, fish and timber but with the financial squeeze there is less need in the EU for such raw materials for another few years and EU is not about thinking long term.

I think they used 90,000,000 Kr, which is roughly +/- 9million USD, with the exchange rate present at the time of production. This allows for some liberty, at least with street fighting etc, which is kinda what you're left with as a full mobilization at the season finale would be about as successfull as the one done on 9th of april 1940.

Also, the Norwegian state allows for a bunch of stipends etc in order to promote media production. (Just look at producers)

I thought this show was great, recommended it to some friends who were confused about Ukraine. It's obviously not a strict analog for that situation, but I liked how it showed how a country that's outgunned and basically abandoned by allies has to deal with things politically. How weaker countries can be thrown to the wolves in the name of political expedience and larger global economic and political concerns, and how individuals negotiate that kind of a situation. The Norwegian president may seem like a pussy, but he didn't have a strong governing coalition- he's not a dictator, he can't just pull the trigger.
