Wow, it's fucking nothing.
>>
>>29806410
the disparity comes for the fact that a $1000 arsenal is the gold standard in AKM pattern guns for US consumers, yet they have more fragile finishes than, say, the infamous wasr.
cosmetics aside, this runs counter to arsenals reputation as well as its price point.
>>
AR fag here

Is it normal for an AK to absolutely pitch brass far?

One guy I shot with had his AK shooting brass at 4 o clock, 20 feet high and 30 feet away

He felt it was normal and I don't know Shit about them so I couldn't say anything

Yes, AK's can have very violent ejections since they're heavily gassed.
>>
Rifle is fine.
>>
>>29806448
Yeah. I thought the same thing, and I was especially worried because I built mine. When I first test fired I tried looking for the cases like I would for an AR but couldn't find any, it wasn't until later that day that I found out the cases were laying on top of my trucks roof.

>>
>>29806448
yeah. remember the AK was not designed with reloading the brass in mind. most 7.62x39mm is Berdan primed steelcase anyway. it is very much normal for the AK to chuck the cases into the next county. rollerlocked firearms aren't any better and a lot of them mangle brass first THEN throw it half a mile.

jesus fucking christ, there are quite some retards on here. We should all stop shooting steelcase ammo because luckygunner says they make your barrel shit the bed in 100,000 rounds later.

I guess some people are genuinely more concerned about how their rifle looks over the performance. Pretty sad

Actually it was zero to smoothbore in less than six thousand rounds, and that with chrome-lined barrels and semi-auto shooting only. But it's not the steel cases that were the culprit, it's the copper washed steel jacketed bullets that ate the rifling like a fat kid stuffing himself with wedding cake.

it does kill your barrel noticeably sooner. of course, over 6k rounds at 6 CPR (the current difference between the cheapest steel case and cheapest re-manufactured brass) youre still saving $360. thats more than enough for a brand new barrel in savings.

Of course, this ain't an AR that goes together and comes apart like it's made out of Lego blocks.

Replacing a barrel in an AR is relatively simple. Replacing a barrel in an AK is non-trivial at best.
>>
>>29807159
Right but besides being flung into the next county, the brass usually is 100% reloadable if recovered.
>>
>>29807364
however, it bears mentioning that proper foreign made AK barrels will last far longer eating steel case than the normal button-rifled AR barrel.

>>
>>29807594
Oh my god it's an AK it is meant to shoot steel cased ammunition. Luckygunner mag dumped for their barrel testing. Steel cased ammo powder burns a little hotter due to powders used in russia which is probably why it was all fucked up sooner. I bet you won't ever tear your barrel out since AKMs are rated to 15k plus for barrels and you probably won't notice accuracy degradation for even longer.
I really appreciate Rob's testing but oh my god the end conclusion is that all rifles have problems and I guess we should just buy ARs now.

FN15 is nothing milspec.

Its literally Colt or nothing if you want a true M16A4. Otherwise get a LMT or, if you can find it <850, a 6920.
>>
>>29807792
this. per their test posting:
>If anything would make that lacquer coating “melt,” it would be the treatment these rifles received during the test. We shot them until they were too hot to hold – hot enough that a chambered round would cook off in ten to fifteen seconds.

so unless you are magdumping at the range for 8,000 rounds you are going to get much much more serviceable life out of your barrels. they were trying to speed up the round counts to because they dont have years to do the test. but that also affects the results. barrels erode exponentially faster when the steel heats up, if you are slow firing a round a second at the range you will probably never see your barrel weear out
>>
>>29807819
I'm noticing this on SLR107s and not on SLR104s at least from this all shit lately. I'm betting there aren't many SLR104s being produced right now and this paint fuck up is something messed up going on recently. Shame on arsenal for letting this crap slip through.

The 'why' is obvious. What is less obvious to most people is to stop taking the test at literal face value of round counts between steel and brass and start spouting that 6000 steel cased rounds will fuck their AR through 150 rounds a week usage.

In the market for a holographic sight and a magnifier, is compatibility something I have to worry about? like the magnifier being too high/low etc, that sort of thing
>>
>>29807887
that seems pretty obvious to me though, but i guess a lot of people dont know basic chemistry principles like the hotter metal becomes, the softer it becomes. hence why i pointed out they were literally shooting their ARs in the test until round cookoff temperatures were experienced, which i doubt most of us kommandos do
>>
>>29807819
I love the excuses.

"Mines good"
"Doesn't happen to my Arsenal"
"Must be a bad batch"
It's all bullshit.

This kind of shit is what has allowed Arsenal to get to this point.
Fanboys making excuses and letting them get away with inexcusable problems while they maintain their high prices and "premium" status.

Don't stand for it.

Make Arsenal Great Again
>>
>>29807920
yes, what mount do you have? mounting optics on AKs can be tricky. you basically either replace the gas tube with a railed gas tube, or use one of those recent dog leg rails that replaces your iron sights and runs over your dustcover. or if you have a side mount welded to the receiver like a lot of romanian AKs, you can find a railed mount but your shit will be so high you will get no cheek weld. i personally dont like gas tube rails because the heat basically cooks your expensive optics
>>
>>29807985
I don't even have the rifle I'm planning on putting the optics on yet; I'm just trying to do my homework early. I hadn't thought about that with the gas tube; that's pretty interesting
>>
>>29807979
A lot of older arsenals aren't showing this poor quality of paint. It may be a bad batch but that doesn't absolve arsenal of any wrong-doing in the matter. I've always heard they're parkerized beneath the paint (ALWAYS) and it sure as shit doesn't look parkerized.

Something is really fucked up at that factory because the finish we're seeing is worse than it's terrible reputation would initially suggest.
>>
>>29808000
if optics are extremely important to you, i would get an AR15 instead. just my opinion though
>>
>>29807449
Even comparing barrels of the same caliber, CHF will last longer than conventional button rifling.
>>
>>29808000
many an eotech has been fried on the ultimak gas tube rail. aimpoints seem to hold up to the heat if they have a little mount under them to help dissipate the heat. the cheap optics that mount straight to a rail will fry

>excuses and deflection
Do arsenalfags really think like this?
It's sad.
Arsenal should be held to a much higher standard if they expect people to pay for it.
>>
>>29808477

Out of those, the only rifles that leave (or left, in this case), the factory ready to go are the collector AKs that cost even more than an arsenal and have no warranty.

If arsenal shit the bed, the US AK market really is just a hobbled together mess of WASRs, garage builds and $2000+ bullshit.

Seriously, how hard is it for a group of these guys to sit down and give us a foreign-built rifle finished here in the states that's done correctly for what it's actually worth to the customer? Literally every other industry had this shit figured out ten years ago.
>>
>>29808222
>Do you even own a DDI? or are you just the 'fox and sour grapes' all your other posts about Arsenal make you seem?
I get paid 50 cents per DDI post. Only 30 more posts until I can get a DDI tshirt!
>>
>>29808576
That's if the community tells them to unfuck their shit instead of offering blankets, hot chocolate, and a therapy session. WASRs were nothing short of a punchline in the AK world pre-2008, and as a result Cugir and Century got their act together and stopped consistently churning out sub-par rifles. If no one cared and just shrugged their shoulders, saying "It's no big deal", we'd likely still be getting those shitheaps with their trigger-slap, rampant canted sights/GBs, shoddily hand-cut magwells etc. etc.
>>
>>29808591
It's already happening, here's a quote from my FB feed:

"There are negatives about literally every aspect of life. This is no better than the media saying only reporting on the negative. I've had countless arsenals in my day, a few opaps, kid builds, and a couple DDI's, and if I'm worrying about the finish, I have too much time on my hands."
>>
>>29808504
Wow, nice reading comprehension. Again I'll state that it's clear there was a bad batch that went out which would be thousands of rifles, they skipped a few steps and fucked up, a few people are probably going to get fired, and finally that we should reserve our shitposting until Arsenal addresses the issue or not.
>>
>>29808530
add to that the recent ak fail videos and it looks like the pendulum has swung and now the ak is expensive and crap and the ar is cheap and reliable.

fantastic times we live in.
>>
>>29808591
>Didn't happen to MY Arsenal
It didn't and isn't happening to 99% of Arsenal rifles, there was a bad batch, that is all.
>It's just the well known shitty paint on a premium priced rifle
>It's just a bad batch, still better than your WASR
Why are people so delusional and in capable of taking things in context.
>>
>>29807785
parkerize is a zinc phosphate finish applied to the gun in a electro chemical reaction

bluing is turning the outer later of steel into magnetite, which is basically a form of rust. which provides some corrosion protection much like how aluminum does. Though you need to oil bluing to make it really effective.

parkerizing also leaves a surface behind that holds oil well, holds up to abuse better, and is cheaper and easier to do.

While bluing can be polished and made all pretty.
>>
>>29808611
I still don't understand why big names like Ruger, Colt, Winchester, ect don't take up making AKs.
>>
>>29808666
>Colt
>Making AKs
If they started today, we'd likely see their first 5.45 offering in about 2030.
>>
>>29808611
Because we keep getting hit by import bans, we have a bunch of stupid laws, a lot of the overseas manufacturers tend to also have to balance military contracts, among other reasons.
>>
>>29808631
What the heck happened, I remember when ARs were thought of as richfag rifles. Why can't America into making AKs?
>>
>>29808615

I think with DDI and Century slowly creeping up on them in build quality they will eventually. DDI is putting out side folding stocks soon, so about the only edge Arsenal has right now is the barrel.
>>
>>29808640
>there was a bad batch, that is all
You better fucking hope so, because Czechs here are reporting their latest shipments of AKs from the Bulgies are about on par with an INSAS in terms of craftsmanship.
>>
>>29808626

>Again I'll state that it's clear there was a bad batch that went out which would be thousands of rifles

No, that isn't clear. This information hasn't even had a week to circulate. I say this as an arsenal owner with a rifle from the previous batch (XK 55) that was known to ship with poorly heat treated hammers. Until enough data is gathered from batches shipped over the past few years, this could be an ongoing issue.

The odds of that happening are pretty fucking low. Most arsenal owners don't shoot their rifles enough as it is, much less fast enough to heat up the barrel or wear the internal components. Oh, and I highly doubt people are going to scrape off paint to see if their rifle really is just bare metal underneath, so there's that.

The only reason I'm not butthurt is because I saw this coming, and if it really IS an issue, I can unload my 107fr on someone locally for more than I paid for it.
>>
>>29808693

hell, colt will be putting out keymod or mlok railed rifles while HK and FN are working on phased plasma pulse rifles.
>>
>>29808708
>Why can't America into making AKs?
because we are too advanced and we lost the ability to make ancient weapons.
>>
I cum all over my Rifle a lot (It's an SLR107 stamped XM55) I've put it through hell and back and nothing is wrong with it.

I think everyone needs to start cumming on their rifles because it makes them stronger and more resistant to getting hurt. You see if you cum on your rifle the tiny unborn babies go into the tiny parts of the finish and fill them up and gets rid of all the bad.

tl;dr cum all over your rifle daily and you will have ZERO issues.
>>
>>29808708

they can but lack the proper machines and tooling to do it. ARs can be built with a fucking CNC machine.
>>
>>29808709
>so about the only edge Arsenal has right now is the barrel.
That said, "MUH STEYR" carries a significant amount of weight. However, Green Mountain doesn't exactly fuck around with their product, either (I have their 20" pencil profile barrel on my A1 clone, it's fantastic), and puts out a perfectly fine barrel for the DDI AKs.
