If you don't want to break your neck trying to wear it, no.

yes, the new ECH, which is in trials at the moment. It's the first level 3 NATO helmet, and it's molded out of some fancy metal, into the shape of modern kevlars. Apparently it doesn't even weight much more than the kevlar pots.

Alternatively, you gotta look up those Russian "Sphere" helmets, SSSh-94 Sphere-S, that pack titanium plates inside soft panels. Those are rated and tested to stop even 7.62x54R.

>>29783275
Stop spreading that ancient myth.
Literally physics 101; force of that level would mean that the shooter would dislocate his shoulder with each shot.
>>

>>
Lots of helmets can withstand a blank, even 7.62.
>>
Not one that's manufactured, no. However, the force of the impact would whiplash you bad and you'd probably break your neck.
>>
>>29783441
Why?
>>
>>29783426
Nylon.

The trick is to sandwich them nylon layers into different orientation and to use heat press to mold them.

Not exactly point blank, but it can withstand 7.62x39mm from 25 feet
>>
>>29785467
last time I read, it was all metal.
>>
>>29783256
See, the problem I have always had with these fancy new helmets is that they take too long to make, and use too many difficult to synthesize materials. In a real war, you will need to either build hundreds of thousands of helmets in a short time whilst being blockaded, bombed, and starved of labor, or stockpile literally millions of helmets before the war starts. And for those of you not familiar with modern synthetic ballistic material, you can only store armour for a couple of years before it becomes brittle and simply shatters at the application of any real force; thus meaning that if you want to stockpile enough to equip a wartime army, you need to be constantly building helmets at the same rate you would want to be at for frenzied wartime production. What's the logic here? Are people just not planning for long-term, large-scale conflicts anymore?
>>
>>29785467
>7.62 NATO
I get what you mean, but theres no way modern nylon is going to stop 54r/308/x51 at 25 feet, it would need to be plates like >>29783426
mentioned
>>
>>29785628
helmets don't get frail after a couple of years buddy, they're not made of ceramic plates.
>>
>>29785649
No, but they are made out of a minimally stable compound. Kevlar will weaken and become brittle to the point of innefectuality after a few years in storage. You can't just make 10,000 of the things and lock them in a room for a decade like you can with shitty steel pots, they trade longevity for effectiveness. What I'm saying is that this is an inefficient use of resources, and will cause an undue burden on your supply line during a major war.
>>
>>29785628
Pretty sure if we were in an actual infantry-demanding war that we would be churning out helmets like crazy. High demand makes the process more efficient.
>>
>>29783256
Assuming you mean 7.62 M80 at muzzle velocity.

Lot's of "info" in this thread, but no references. Research it yourself. Here's a site you might want to check out.

http://operation-helmet.org/helmet/#ECH

In the article, they mention an "undisclosed .30 cal threat" No mention of the country of origin, projectile weight, projectile type, or impact velocity. Probably because it's classified.

Also, here's a book. Expensive to buy, but you can read through it online.

I actually have a super beat Sphere helmet, it's heavy and shit but i doubt it's 7.62x54 heavy. I dont think they'd stop anything like that unless there's some angling involved

The Finnish defense forces tested some Sphera helmet for a local military magazine just last month, and it did stop both 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R. Yes, they managed to get a penetration later on, but overall having even that > 50% chance of surviving what's technically a slavic .30-06 to the skull is pretty impressive.

Then don't make them when the time comes.

Ever try putting the butt of a 308 against your forehead and pulling the trigger. Also keep in mind your head when being hit with a bullet doesn't have the 10 lb rifle to help absorb the recoil (unless we're talking about a 10 lb helmet.

Are you fucking retarded? The steel model only stops a tok round.
Now i believe Ruskies have a ceramic fucking helmet called Vulcan of like that that is actually rated to stop 54r.

Altyn will only stop a weak makarov round to the faceshield and a tok round to the dome.

No, you're fucking retarded.

Watch the video of the guy getting shot with 308 while wearing body armor. protip: it doesn't knock you down
>>

That bait.
Titanium sphere is russian level 1, the steel one is level 2. Steel only only stops a tokarev 7.62, not a fucking 7.62x54r.

There is no arguing with these morons.

Decellerating a 308 with your head has your neck damping most of the force.

Go find someone that can toss a baseball at 100 mph and let them dome you in a helmet. 308 has 5x the energy.

Because throwing a baseball at your head can be comparable to getting shot in a helmet, right?
>>
>>29789198
I'd rather be shot in the head with a 762x54r than be caught wearing that
>>
>>29789305
It's easy to compare the energies that the two will impart on a helmet.

TL;DR: they are easily comparable.
>>
>>29789330
After leaving out tens of other variables, sure.

But don't just take my word for it, you should apply as the ACH test dummy. Then you'd have much more to tell me that's not based on 8th grade physics.
>>
>>29789169
It won't break your neck in any case.

The original poster was referring to the weight of the helmet anyway.

I'm not talking about the steel model. Like said already yesterday, this was the titanium version.

The Sphera-S is rated for rifle rounds, and was recently tested with 7.62x54R.

yes, there's different versions available, the most modern one being .308 Win proof.

Baseball at 500mph to the same helmet would be the same energy m8.

And the guy who said to hold the butt of the rifle to your head, thats not really a good conparison either. Hold it about half an inch off so that it can get some impulse transfer going.
>>
>>29790174
308 to the body will break bones too

Not quite sure what your getting at? Mv=mv is nice for initial and final momentum, but outside highschool energy is king and getting from state 1 to state 2 theres some larger forces at work
>>
>>29790294
Not the Sphera-S variant shown in >>29790216

You do know that Titanium's lighter and stronger than steel, and ruskies pretty much use it as their rifle plates in armor?
>>
>>29790665
No, they stopped using titanium as armor plates some time ago, they use ceramics.
Saying that one more time - titanium sphere is one class below the steel model.
>>

>>
>>29785706
>Kevlar will weaken and become brittle to the point of innefectuality after a few years in storage.

That is completely false. There is 30 year old Kevlar police body armor that will still work as rated. Granted, you would be wise to replace your armor every few years or so, but it's not like the stuff goes bad from just sitting in storage.
>>
>>29792807
probably because it was stored correctly and taken care of. he did say just lock them in a room, as in, no maintenance.
>>
>>29793991
There is no required maintenance for Kevlar other that keeping it away from excessive heat and moisture. Helmets are sealed from moisture and soft armor is sealed in waterproof fabric.

Face it, saying it goes bad after a few years is just a completely false statement. Even police body armor that gets used daily is rated for a minimum of 5 years, and that is erring on the side of caution.
>>
>>29794795
Police body armour is rated for 5 years because it's expensive as fuck, and and you can bet your ass that if they kept it for anything other than the extremely unlikely event of a mass of unruly crowd of school-age niggers with baseball bats threatening public safety, they would rate it for closer to 3 years. Shit's a composite of non-cooperative materials, anon. It just doesn't like to stay together. It's essentialy suicidal at the chemical level, but really really slowly.
>>
>>29785628
We got a master of economics, military, production management here.
Such impeccable and original words of wisdom.
>>
>>29796646
Stop being autistic, kevlar isn't suicidal at the chemical level. That's one of the dumbest things i've heard here. Vests degrade because the material can weaken over time with movement, since it is of an abrasive nature. As well as the weave loosening, since it's cloth.
