I was only a kid but I remember going into the cop shop with my dad so he could hand in his mini-ruger.
The thing was a piece of shit that he bought for two slabs of beer, the rifling was beyond fucked so it was only good for throwing out a lot of lead onto pigs in the scrub.
But because the way the buyback worked you got the same amount of money regardless of what condition the gun was in. So he still got paid out $600-700 in '96 dollars for something that was essentially scrap metal.

They knew it was coming obviously so the gun shops all had huge sales to get rid of all the stock before the final date came.
